Suspected armed gangsters killed two security guards in Eastleigh moments after their robbery attempt was foiled by the guards. The two were killed as they tried to move in to assist victims of the gangsters. The killing has incensed residents who are now asking the police to beef up security in the area.

One boy killed in street chaos in Eastleigh
www.ntv.co.ke A teenager was killed in a violent clash this afternoon between street urchins and a youth group in Nairobi's Eastleigh Estate. Five other street boys were injured in the fighting that involved machetes and clubs. And as Vincent Oduor reports, at least 50 people have been arrested over the chaos.

More than 20 police officers backed by immigration officials today raided a hotel in Eastleigh in Nairobi and arrested more than thirty people, suspected to be financiers of the Al-Shabaab militia group. Eyewitnesses said the officers in two vans stormed into the Al-Furqan hotel on Eastleigh's seventh street and arrested the suspects some with gunshot wounds. Contacted for comment police spokesman Eric Kiraithe could only say that the government was acting to ensure that Kenyans are safe.

Wave of house demolitions moves to Eastleigh

The Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway The Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway is duel gauge at 7 ¼ and 10 ¼ Its Underground Ernie day so there are some wired looking locos running! We start at Eastleigh Parkway where we seen most of the lines locos in the yard. From right to last siding by siding they are, No. 4498 Sir Nigel Gresley 10¼" a 4-6-2 built by William Kirkland in 1964. No. 6220 Coronation 10¼" a 4-6-2 built in 1946 by E. Dove. No. 7 Sandy River 10¼" a 2-4-2. No. 1001 The Monarch 10¼" 4-6-2 built in 1932 by HCS Bullock. Taw 7¼" a 2-6-2T built in 1999 by J. Horsfield, in the style of The Lynton & Barnstaple locos. No. 10 Sir Arthur Heywood 7¼" a 2-6-2 built by Ken Williamson in 1994 in the style of a Ravenglass & Eskdale Railways locos. No. 2006 Edward VIII 10¼" was built in 1936. No. 1908 Ernest Henry Upton 10¼" a 4-4-2 was built in 1937 by G&S Engineering. And No. 4789 William Baker 7¼" a 4-4-2 built in 1947. We them bard a train from Eastleigh Parkway to Monks brook Halt hauled by 10 ¼ gauge 850 Lord Nelson a 4-6-0 built by in 2007 by Jesse Moody. From the train we pass a number of other trains hauled by the flowing locos, Ernie 1 10¼" a diesel hydraulic BB built in 1994. No. 92 Florence 10¼" a Kubota two cylinder water cooled diesel hydraulic built in 1999. And Jubilee 10¼" a electric propulsion loco. Panic in Eastleigh
The demolitions in Eastleigh estate have sparked panic with businessmen and residents alike scrambling to salvage what they can before the bull-dozers return. The fears of residents were further fuelled by signs which have appeared on buildings, marking out those ear-marked for demolitions. This, it is feared could deal a severe blow to businesses in the estate. Yet the demolitions continued even as a group of area property owners moved to court seeking an injunction, to no avail.

Eastleigh Freights Part 1
Part 1 of 2 of videos of freight trains at Eastleigh. Eastleigh is at the centre of freight trains, with quite a percentage of freights in the south passing through or originating/terminating at the Eastleigh yard. In this video, we see many many sheds in action, with these being in EWS and Freightliner liveries. We also see 66250, the last 66/0 shed to be built and imported from Canada. Eastleigh Works Centenary Open Day May 2009
Eastleigh Works, formerly built by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) in 1909, celebrated its 100th birthday. For the celebrations the works hosted a open weekend for the public to view a wide range of many locomotives that came to Eastleigh, many of them were built there. As well as tour the works complex and the stalls that were located in the works. The film begins with the Mayor of Eastleigh making her speech of the works, with shots of the interior of the works while she speaks and unvaling a nameplate called 'Borough of Eastleigh' on Class 73 73119. The film continues exploring the whole of Eastleigh Works from steam locomotives to southern diesel electrics, from BR diesels to electric multiple units. And a detailed description of 35028's cab with an interview with one of the support crew members (it was unusually the first time I had hand-held my camera, as it was pretty cramped in the cab! Please bear with me on that) With bright sunny spells to shine on the day, many people in their thousands came to this spectecular event. I wasnt alone during this occasion I decided to treat my dad to this event as an early Fathers Day gift. Eastleigh Works has been famous for making primary Southern motive power, as well as small commuter engines for the South and South Eastern UK. The most famous examples were the SR Maunsell 'Lord Nelsons', Bullied Merchant Navy, West Country and Battle of Britain locomotives that became Eastleighs primary build to the Southern <b>...</b>

It's a brilliant morning at Eastleigh but some trains have been disrupted by incidents elsewhere on the system. Running in from the south is a leaf-shifting track-cleaning unit and while it waits for the road, Tangmere arrives from the Fareham line. Two service trains rattle past and a freightliner creeps out of the down yard before Tangmere makes the steamiest of departures for the Romsey branch. Tagging on behind is my favourite class of diiesel.

A sunny afternoon spent at Swaythling and Eastleigh stations on the 18th March 2010. This first video includes the footage taken from Eastleigh station and includes SouthWest Trains classes 158, 450 and 444 along with a Cross Country class 221. We start at Eastleigh Station, by seeing 70013 Oliver Cromwell departing with The Railway Touring Companys The Dorset Coast Express from Norwich to Poole. 70013 hauled the outward leg and after arriving at Poole was stabled at The Swanage Railway. Next were in the works, where we get a short break van trip up the yard and back, hauled by M7 No. 53. From the train we see a Class 423 4-Vep driveing car along with some Anglia Railways, livered mark 2s and a Village class 59. Back at Eastleigh Station we see 47760 departing for Norwich with the return of The Railway Touring Companys The Dorset Coast Express. Then DRS class 37s, 37069 and 37602 arrive with the return of Spitfire Railtours The Wessexman from Crewe to Weymouth and return.
