Camp Toccoa is the birthplace of the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions in 1943. This video visits the original site of this WWII Paratrooper training camp near the town of Toccoa in Stephens County Georgia. Camp Toccoa and Mt. Currahee were made famous when featured in the HBO movie Band of Brothers. This is where "Easy" Company underwent training before going to Europe and participating in the 06 June 1944 D-Day invasion of Normandy. The camp is now gone, but I did my best to show you where the camp was and what it now looks like.

Band of Brothers Synopsis [modifier] Inspiré de l'œuvre de l'historien Stephen E. Ambrose, ce feuilleton retrace l'histoire des soldats de la Easy Company, du 506e Régiment d'Infanterie Parachutiste, de la 101e Division Aéroportée US (dont les membres sont connus sous le nom de « Screaming Eagles » ou « Aigles hurleurs »), de ses débuts et jusqu'à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale en 1945. Au tout début, les recrues ne connaissent rien aux unités aéroportées et sont très durement entrainées. La Easy Company est la plus entraînée de toutes les compagnies du régiment. Le premier lieutenant Herbert M. Sobel veut que ses hommes soient les meilleurs et leur pourrit la vie autant qu'il peut. Son commandant en second, le premier lieutenant Richard D. Winters, fraîchement promu, est mieux vu par les hommes et est meilleur stratège. Sobel est malgré tout promu au rang de capitaine par le colonel Sink, mais ce dernier, après la mutinerie des sous-officiers de Sobel, est finalement contraint d'affecter Sobel dans une école de saut en parachute pour les volontaires, en Angleterre. À la veille du 6 juin 1944, la Easy est parachutée au dessus de la Normandie. Les parachutages sont un désastre, les dropzones (zones de sauts) sont ratées et toute la compagnie est éparpillée dans le Cotentin. De plus, le lieutenant Meehan qui commande la compagnie est tué dans l'explosion de son C-47. Le commandement de la compagnie revient donc au lieutenant Winters. The Crossroads (in the center of The Netherlands) in 2010 is much like it was back in October 1944: empty and green, with ditches criss-crossing the field.
