Every single ethnic group, even including white people, are subject to racism and prejudice almost equally across the board. Whether an American looks at an Asian like a bloodsucking leech that takes money of black communities, or looks at every white person like a potential racist, or every black person as more aggressive, we all get affected by it. But what strikes me as odd as the ability to mask racism. The ability to completely legitimize it, to the point where it becomes little more than a rational debate. This is what I'm beginning to see more and more with Latino-based racism and prejudice. Deep down, at it's heart, the immigration issue-- for a lot of people, not all of them, is about preserving a tradition. It's about rejecting multiculturalism, in order to protect a set of beliefs, behaviors, and customs that you've held in high regard for the majority of your life. This can be illustrated over and over by the constant urging by supporters of immigration restrictions for people to speak English. Or by people who claim that you should learn the language before you come to a country. Essentially, these people are masking their xenophobia with an argument that appears legitimate.
