How to Properly Open and Close a Jumpring (and how NOT to!) - Jewelry-making Techniques

Jumprings come in all shapes and sizes; from a heart shape to an oval, from 4mm to 9mm. They are useful when trying to attach a clasp at the end of your piece, or when you want to make an unique chain. Please note that this is my first video with music, so I'm still learning. Some of the audio is low (the part where I show you how not to open a jumpring) and I apologize for that. Also, I was not able to have this video in HD because the formating was all wrong. Hopefully I'll fix that in my next video! ;) Materials list: - A jumpring - Two pairs of pliers (I am using a flat-nose and a long-nose) Points to remember when opening and closing a jumpring: - Use pliers that are smooth, without ridges. This is so you don't mark up your jumprings when trying to open them. - Always open a jumpring sideways, not straight across. You can distort the jumpring, not only making it difficult to close again, but it won't close properly. - Close a jumpring by moving the pliers by and forth until you hear a clicking sound. This tells you that the wire ends are touching and your jumpring is now securely closed. In partnership with www.FaveCrafts.com , I am pleased to present this video on what beads you will need when you are first starting out with jewelry making. For more free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit www.FaveCrafts.com . In this video I will show you what kinds of beads you will need when you first start jewelry making. These are only guidelines and will help you kick start your bead collection. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » Beads « • Seed beads In many of my projects you have seen, I like to use seed beads. I like to use seed beads for fillers, but I also use them in beadworking and with the loom. Size 11 and size 6 are the most common. As for colors, I would recommend getting some in black, white, clear, and a color of your choice. • Bugle beads I use bugle beads mostly for spacers, but occasionally I incorporate them into my beadwork. I would recommend getting a couple hanks in either black or white. • 6mm and 8mm round beads These are great for general use. I like to purchase faceted as well as smooth. Get some beads in clear and several other colors of your choice. • Pearl beads These beads are completely optional -- it all depends if you like pearls. You can either buy the real thing or buy some imitation pearl beads made of glass. • Wooden beads If you like to make organic or earthy looking jewelry, then wooden beads is a must. You can either purchase 6mm round beads or find a value pack with a mixture of different sizes. • "Designer <b>...</b>

How to Make Your Own Vintage Pressed Flower Card -- A Craft Tutorial

In partnership with www.FaveCrafts.com , I am pleased to present this video on how to make vintage pressed flower cards! Formore free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit www.FaveCrafts.com . In this tutorial I will show you how to make vintage looking pressed flower cards. This project is very easy to make, yet it looks like you put a lot of effort into it! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » Materials List « • Cardstock • Pressed flowers • Facial tissues • Glue stick • School glue (aka White glue) • Water • Plastic container for mixing • Disposable brushes • Ruler • Scissors • Optional paper cutter » Instructions « • Determine the size of the card you want. Since my design involved a large pressed flower, I went for a pretty large card. My card measured 6" wide and 11" long, unfolded. • Now fold your card in half and sooth out the fold. • Lay out your pressed flower design. Use your glue stick to attach your pressed flowers. • Time to dilute your glue! Mix 2 parts school glue with 1 part water in your plastic mixing container. • Take a facial tissue and pull apart the plies until you are left with one thin ply. • Lay your one ply tissue over the front of the card. Brush on your diluted glue. The wrinkles give the card a vintage look! • After your card is dry, cut away any overhanging tissue. Your card is complete! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Thanks so much for watching! Solution for Frayed Ends -- Quick Tip

In partnership with www.FaveCrafts.com , I am pleased to present this video on how to fix frayed ends! Formore free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit www.FaveCrafts.com . When you get frayed ends, whether it be with hemp cording or some other type of cording, you know how annoying it can be to slide on beads. That is why I will show you two ways you can fix frayed ends and can get on with your beading! Keep in mind that you will need about an inch extra cording for each project you do if you are going to use these methods. That is because you'll need to cut off the ends at the end of your project. (Who wants tape on their bracelet?!?) ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » Materials List « Solution #1 • Nail polish Solution #2: • Tape • Scissors » Instructions « Solution #1 • Brush on a tiny amount of nail polish to your frayed end. Shape the end into a point by rubbing the cording with your fingers. Solution #2: • Take a small piece of tape and fold it over the frayed end. Rub the tape with your fingers to secure it. Get Started with Jewelry Making - Part Three: Organization

In partnership with www.FaveCrafts.com , I am pleased to present this video on how to organize your beads as well as your beading supplies. For more free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit www.FaveCrafts.com In this video I will discuss different ways you can organize your beads. Since there are so many different ways of organizing beads, I will only be scratching the surface in this video. Notice I'm sorry that my voice is a little hoarse in this video - I was sick! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » How to Organize Your Beads « Organizing your beads is a personal preference. For me, I like to organize my beads mostly by type. For instance, I want all my seed beads grouped together as well as my colorful plastic beads for kids. I then try and separate my beads by color. Notice I emphasized the word "try". I don't always succeed in doing this because it can get confusing at times if I purchase more beads. Tip: Make certain you label your beads and findings and where you purchased them! Also, if you can, write down the price! You'll thank yourself later. Other ways of organizing your beads is to group them by frequency of use. I use my round glass beads very often, so I put them where I can easily find them. You could also group your beads by shapes and sizes. I have organized my beads at least ten times since I started jewelry making. If one method doesn't work out for you, try another. How to Secure Crimp Beads Using Crimping Pliers and Chain-nose Pliers - Jewelry-making Techniques

Crimp beads can be used for finishing off your strung jewelry or as "stoppers", as in my Floating Illusion Necklace Tutorial video: www.youtube.com There are many different types of crimp beads available. Ranging in sizes and types of metals - there are a lot to chose from! I find myself using a 2mm crimp bead most often. But it all depends on what you're going to be using them for. The larger sized crimp beads are for securing larger necklaces, often with multi-strands. The micro sized crimp beads are great for "stoppers". The type of metal is really a personal preference. Plated crimps are not going to wear as long as gold-filled or sterling silver, but they are inexpensive which makes them just right for the beginner. Materials list: - Crimp beads, 2mm - Beading wire - Crimping pliers and/or chain-nose pliers Points to remember when using crimping pliers to secure a crimp bead: - There are two notches in your crimping pliers. The first notch is U-shaped. The second notch is oval. - String a crimp bead on your beading wire and position the crimp bead in the first notch of your crimping pliers. Gently, but firmly close the crimping pliers. - Now turn the crimp bead half-way and position it in the second notch. Gently, but firmly close the crimping pliers. You now see that you have successfully folded your crimp bead. - To make certain that the crimp bead is secure, take the tip of the pliers and give the folded crimp a little squeeze. How to Make a Square Knot and Four Variations -- A Jewelry-making Technique

Formore free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit http . In this tutorial I will show you how to make a basic square knot as well as four variations of the square knot! ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » Materials List « • Hemp cording, I used 1mm • A clipboard to keep your work in place » Instructions « • Before you begin, you first must know the names of each strand. The two outer strands are what I refer to as the working strands. The inner strands are what I call the core strands. Usually there are two strands, but sometimes you will find projects with one strand or more. • To make a square knot, first bring the left working strand over the core strands in an "L" shape. Take the right working strand and bring it over the left, under the core strands, and through the loop you created with your left working strand. Pull with even pressure from both sides to tighten the first half of the knot. Now you basically need to reverse what you just did. Taking your right working strand, bring it over your core strands in an "L" shape. Take your left strand and bring it over the right strand, under the core strands, and through the loop the right working strand created. Pull both working strands to tighten the knot. How to Tie Friendship Bracelets - Jewelry-making Techniques

In partnership with www.FaveCrafts.com , I am pleased to present this video on how to tie friendship bracelets. Formore free craft projects, video tutorials and craft tips, visit www.FaveCrafts.com . In this video, I will show you how to tie bracelets with a loop at the end as well as bracelets with two ties. Bracelets with a loop at one end will have either two seperate ties at the other end or a group of loose ties. I only demostrate how to tie with two seperate ties, but for the group of loose ties, just seperate the ties into two equal groups and follow the directions in this video. Please note that Friendship Bracelets are called Friendship Bracelets because they are difficult to put on by yourself, thus you need a friend to help you. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ » Instructions « Take your bracelet and pull a tie through the loop on the other end. Tie an overhand knot with both ties. Make another knot to secure it. Alternatively, you can pull a tie through the loop and knot as before, but make a bow instead of another knot. This is only if you have enough excess string. For a two tie bracelet, take both ties and tie an overhand knot. Make another knot to secure it. Alternatively you can knot as before, but make a bow instead of another knot. This is only if you have enough excess string. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Thanks so much for watching!
