In 1991 Nuri Akbar interviewed Nicaraguan congressman Hon Ray Hooker who was on an official visit to Los Angeles. Mr Hooker represented the Blue Fields region on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua that hold close historical and cultural ties to the nation of Belize. Topic covered included migration, history, culture, and the relationship of the black population to the Sandinista revolution. Current Social/political challenge and the unique history of the English speaking black people who settled in the blue fields area of Nicaragua.

In 1989 the BREDAA organization invited and hosted SPEAR for a week long visit to the Belizean Caribbean community in Los Angeles. Representing SPEAR was Diane Haylock, Assad Shoman and Wilfred Elrington. The week long consultation culminated in a historic town hall meeting held at the Jesse Owen Park. Many of the issues discussed over two decades ago continues to elude the Belizean experiment. This tape was release on the 30th anniversary of Belize's independence which was celebrated Sept/21/2011

In 2008 Belizean social/political activist Nuri Akbar was invited to appear on KREM TV popular show "Women at work" hosted by Virginia Echols and YaYa Marin Coleman. Mr Akbar gave a dynamic historical context to Belize contemporary social and political ills. He laid the foundation and connected the dotes that are often overlook when analyzing Belize current crisis. Students and teachers are particularly encouraged to take note and study the information that was disseminated. Nuri Akbar also offered some public policy options for the nation of Belize.

The Bredaa organization sponsored what can be called the first Belize Prime Ministers forum held at Los Angeles in 1992. The forum was hosted by Nuri Akbar and held at the Marcus Garvey school in front of a live audience. This interview was later broadcast via Pacifica radio network (KPFK 90.7 FM) in Los Angeles on the BREDAA produce "Belize Caribbean Pusle" show. The guest included former and current PM Manuel Esquivel and Dean Barrow. Topic covered the economy, social/political challenges, foreign policy and the impact of race on the local body politics of Belize. Many of the issues discussed almost two decades ago remain elusive to the Belizean experiment. Belize Social/Political challenge - Farrakhan message to Belizeans Jan/1986

In Jan of 1986 Honorable Min Louis Farrakhan visited the nation of Belize as a part of his Caribbean tour. Upon his arrival he visited the ancient Mayan temple and paid respect to the indigenous people of the region. The issues the Minister address in 1986 has become more urgent and relevant in Belize in 2011. Today 85% of Belizean arable land is now in the hands of foreign ownership. Meanwhile the country has since descended into urban and fratricidal violence among the youth population. The crisis is fueled by the international drug cartel who use Belize as a transshipment point for their lucrative drug trade in the United States. As a consequence many local institutions have been compromised & corrupted. These include but are not limited to the legislative, judicial and law enforcement. Despite the fact that Belize is rich in several kind of minerals including oil in commercial quantity, the local population essentially remain poor. This lecture is posted as a reminder of what has not been accomplished since this historic and prophetic message was delivered to Belizeans over two decades ago. Note: the song at the beginning of this tape is a recording done by Min Farrakhan which is reflective of his Caribbean roots.

In 1992 Nuri Akbar interviewed International Pan African activist Kwame Toure formerly (Stokely Carmichael) on the campus of California-state University in Long Beach California. At the invitation of SPEAR Mr Toure had visited Belize in 1986. Topic covered in this interview included reflections on the condition of black people in Belize and the Caribbean region. Social/political challenges facing the Black diaspora, and historical highlights of the student movement during the civil rights era in the United States . Additionally Mr Toure advised the youths and students of today to place their talents at the feet of the masses in terms of public service. This tape is dedicated to Kwame Toure and his legacy of unselfish global social/political activism .
