Newberry EGS Demonstration

The Newberry Volcano Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) Demonstration is being conducted in the Deschutes National Forest in central Oregon. EGS technology has the potential to greatly increase geothermal power generation in the US and around the world. Geothermal systems provide a source of renewable, baseload power generation that's environmentally friendly, and generates tax revenue and family-wage jobs at home that can help ensure our national energy independence. EGS is the future of geothermal energy.

The transition is due to messed-up formating, not the AVI itself. If you want the original (big), either E-mail me, or if you're a forum-goer, PM my account (Sanchay). Many thanks to Lomgren for fixing the video to fit the song. *hug* For those of you who have come across this by chance, this is a video based on the webcomic El Goonish Shive, copyright Dan Shive. The characters are Susan (dark hair and blonde girl) and Justin (darker blonde boy and girl). Justin is gay and in love with Elliot, who is straight and has a girlfriend. Susan has had a crush on him, not knowing he was gay until he visited her house one night with a few other friends. The parts where Susan and Justin have opposite genders than the norm are because of a birthday party, in which the theme was to swap genders. Justin opened up h(er) emotions to Susan, and began having feelings for Susan, who still had a thing for h(er). The main theme of this video, however, is the common ground between the two. Kinda. Anyway, enjoy! ^_^

Slavoj Žižek. The Return To Hegel. 2009 1/16

www.egs.edu Slavoj Žižek speaking about Hegel and Hegelian concepts of history and historicity, drawing not only on the works of Marxs Grundrisse and Jacques Lacan, but also on opera, Schoenbergs atonal revolution, the experience of impossibility, Freuds death drive, Steven King, Immanuel Kant, Martin Luthers radical revolution, concepts of authenticity and inauthenticity. In addition, Žižek referenced Alain Baidou, Gilles Deleuze, Pascal, Charlie Chaplin and the role of the spectator in The Grand Dictator, the drive to culture and the true satisfaction of the circular movement. Public open lecture for the students and faculty of the European Graduate School EGS Media and Communication Studies department program Saas-Fee Switzerland. 2009 Slavoj Žižek is one of the most renowned philosophers working today. Taking Marxs injunction that philosophers must not only examine the world, but change it, his work borders on the evangelic. Standing astride critical theory, traditional philosophy, political and film theory and theoretical psychoanalysis, he is, in one sense the sole contemporary inheritor of Lacan, doing to Lacan what Lacan once did for Freud. Though at times accused of inconsistency, Žižek instead uses the philosophical tradition to constantly examine (and undermine) received truths. He has argued that it is not the role of the philosopher to act as the Big Other who tells us about the world, but rather it is the role of the thinker to challenge our own ideological ...

Fisher examines and deconstructs his experiences with the narrative of film and the industry, his knowledge and wry humour, creates an entirely unique and intimate view of cinema and its physical presentation. Since the late '60s, Morgan Fisher has made films which foreground the industrial basis of all filmmaking, ironically combining narrative and non-narrative forms and underscoring the common ground between the oft-unreconciled poles of the independently produced 'experimental' film and industrially produced commercial product. John Waters, born 1946, in a public open lecture with students and faculty of the European Graduate School EGS, Media and Communication Studies department, film and movie program, Saas-Fee, Switzerland, Europe, 2000. John Waters. John Waters rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films. John Waters' early films were all shot in the Baltimore area with his company of local actors, the Dreamlanders. In addition to Divine, the group included Mink Stole, Cookie Mueller, Edith Massey, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, and others. These early films were among the first picked up for distribution by New Line Cinema. John Waters' films premiered at the Baltimore Senator Theatre and sometimes at the Charles Theatre. John Waters' early campy movies present filthily lovable characters in outrageous situations with hyperbolic dialogue. His early films, Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Desperate Living, which he labeled the Trash Trilogy, pushed hard at the boundaries of conventional propriety and movie censorship. A particularly notorious final segment of Pink Flamingos, simply added in as a non sequitur to the end of the film, featured, in one take without special effects, a small dog defecating and Divine eating the feces. Alain Badiou. The Event as Creative Novelty 2009 1/13

www.egs.edu Alain Badiou lecturing about mathematical logic in relation to Aristotles book 4 of the Metaphysics, in particular on the proposition of the excluded middle and its relation to the event as creative novelty. He proposes that of the four types of logic it is the fourth type of negation—the negation that obeys neither the principle of non-contradiction nor the principle of the excluded middle—is in fact the total destruction of any power of negativity. It is the null point of the first three propositions in which negation finally exists only as the negated. Badiou uses this proposition to illustrate his ontology that a thing—be it physical, biological, scientific, philosophic or juridical— is a pure multiplicity without any qualifying determination. The laws of the world are not laws of things themselves but instead laws between the relationships of things.
