Ferrari V12 HY-KERS Technology

At the recent Beijing, Ferrari unveiled the evolution of the HY-KERS project adapted to a mid-rear engine layout. The powertrain consists of a 12-cylinder engine and dual-clutch gearbox coupled to an electric motor. A second electric motor is dedicated to the auxiliary systems and is located in front of the V12. The two electric motors are connected to the batteries which can be positioned in the car in line with the available space and final configuration. The objective of this configuration is to create a sports car that, thanks to the integration with the electric motors, increases power while at the same time reducing emissions. The KERS features new, smaller and lighter electronic components which come close to achieving the declared target of 1 KW per kg of extra weight added by the hybrid system. Technological transfer from F1 was fundamental to the design, engineering and construction of an innovative electric motor used to optimise the car's longitudinal and lateral dynamic characteristics, namely torque management, traction control and brake distribution, to the benefit of sportiness and driving pleasure.

How to fix: 2003 Chevrolet Impala's ABS And Traction Control System (Dash Lights On)

UPDATE 28/MARCH/2012: My car has been running great for 120 days now! I've now received 6 emails that this works! How to fix a 2003 Chevrolet Impala when in your dash you have the ABS and Traction control system lights on. Step 1: Park the car in a garage and apply the emergency brakes. Step 2: Lift the car with a jack and remove both front wheels. Step 3: Unclip and unplug the ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Harness behind both front wheels. You may be thinking: "what the is an ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Wire Harness?", here is an image for you. I disconnected mine and they were both very clean but had ice in them. I've read on the internet that some people had a bit of dirt that accumulated so it had to be cleaned. Some people had water. Simply clean with WD40 and reconnect it. WD40 repels water. Do this on the left front side and the right front side of the car. Sadly, if you go to a GM dealer, they will use the same diagnostic tool for the car that I own and ask you to pay 600$ to replace the whole hub assembly. This is stupid and costly. You only need to clean the connection! Step 4: Put back the 2 wheels. You are done. If you properly applied WD40 and reconnected it well, the ABS and traction control system will no longer light up in the dash. The car now runs smoothly. No more dangerous drifting in snow during winter. In conclusion. The whole problem is simply to clean the ABS's wire connection behind both wheels with WD40 by unplugging them. This whole procedure is free ...

Permanent adhesive power: the 4MATIC all-wheel drive systemStuttgart/Hochgurgl , Nov 29, 2011 E-Class 4MATIC: stability pact for the winter: Gripping drive system for Saloon and EstateThe 4MATIC powertrain in the E-Class is one of the best-performing permanent all-wheel drive systems on the market. The basic design concept, with the engine installed longitudinally and the integral transmission and transfer case unit, produces a compact, lightweight arrangement that minimises frictional losses, heralding a number of benefits compared to other passenger car systems with a transverse power unit and selectable 4x4. As with the 4MATIC system's set-up on a dry or wet road, handling stability and, therefore, active safety are paramount at all times when wintry conditions prevail, too. The mechanical principle of the 4MATIC system, featuring a 45:55 torque split between the front and rear axles and a multi-disc limited-slip centre differential with a basic locking torque of 50 Nm, offers all the right ingredients. This basic design enables high levels of traction, as the dynamic shift in axle load toward the rear axle that occurs during acceleration is harnessed to deliver more drive torque to the rear wheels. However, the multi-disc differential lock is also able to shift the drive torque between the front and rear axles, varying the split between 30:70 and 70:30 as the road conditions dictate. Consequently, intervention by the ESP®, 4ETS or ASR electronic control systems can be ...

MTH Electric Trains Premier SD50 Diesel.mpg

EMD's "50 Series" diesel locomotives of the mid-1980s were the product of the most extensive testing in the company's 50-year history. Both the four-axle, four-motor GP50 and the six-axle, six-motor SD50 utilized a new control system that substantially increased hauling capacity and reduced engine noise levels. The 3500 hp SD50 measured just 30" longer than the SD40-2 it replaced but differed substantially in appearance. Gone were the front and rear "porches" of the SD40-2 and the dynamic brake blisters on the sides of its hood. Under the SD50's longer hood, the dynamic brakes, which generate a lot of heat, were relocated from a position over the hot engine to a cleaner, cooler area just behind the cab. The SD50 also introduced EMD's new "Super Series" control system, which included a radar unit for measuring true ground speed and electronic monitoring of the electrical equipment. A primary benefit of the new control system was its ability to maximize rail adhesion by automatically applying short bursts of sand as needed to maintain traction. The system allowed three SD50s to do the work of four older locomotives. This O Scale model train of the EMD SD50 is available through any MTH Electric Trains Authorized Retailer.

Car Safety - Crash Avoidance Features - Electronic Stability Control (ESC)

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) helps drivers to avoid crashes by reducing the danger of skidding, or losing control as a result of over-steering. ESC becomes active when a driver loses control of their car. It uses computer controlled technology to apply individual brakes and help bring the car safely, back on track, without the danger of fish-tailing. Why do I need it? Australian research shows that ESC reduces the risk of: * Single car crashes by 25% * Single 4WD crashes by 51% * Single car crashes in which the driver was injured by 28% * Single 4WD crashes in which the driver was injured by 66%* No other active safety device has such potential to reduce single car crashes. How does it work? ESC works by using a number of intelligent sensors that detect any loss of control and automatically apply the brake to the relevant wheel, putting your car back on the intended path. ESC is of assistance to the driver in: * correcting impending oversteering or understeering; * stabilising the car during sudden evasive manoeuvres; * enhancing handling on gravel patches, such as road shoulders; and * improving traction on slippery or icy roads. Are there different names for ESC? Yes. Some of the names that we know about in Australia are: * Electronic Stability Program (ESP) - Holden, HSV, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Jeep, Renault, Saab,Chrysler, Citroen, Maybach, Peugeot, Ssangyong * Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) - Ford, FPV, BMW, Mazda, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar ...

Traction and control

Along with the traction that Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive gives you, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), a stability control system, automatically senses steering and braking inputs to help keep the vehicle on the driver's intended path. The VDC system also includes an all-wheel all-speed traction control system. In stopping situations, the Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS) pulses braking power to help prevent wheel lockup. Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) optimizes the distribution of braking force between the front and rear wheels according to how the vehicle is loaded with passengers and cargo. And the Brake Assist system helps ensure maximum pressure is applied to the brakes as quickly aspossible in an emergency situation.

On the inside, designers and engineers strived to rethink all touch points; and upgrade all material appointments and technologies. The Highlights: Two new models include SRT® Viper and SRT Viper GTS. All-aluminum, mid-engine 8.4-litre V10 delivers an estimated 640 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque -- the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world. Chassis enhancements bring 50 per cent improvement in torsional stiffness. Triple-digit weight reduction results in Viper best power-to-weight ratio. Standard safety features include electronic multistage stability control, traction control and new 4-channel anti-lock brake system (ABS). All-new, innovative interior designs set new standards with premium materials, new technologies and superior craftsmanship. All-new carbon-fibre and aluminum skin is sculpted for high-speed stability and a slippery .364 drag coefficient (Cd). Timeless exterior design incorporates iconic Viper styling cues with a contemporary execution.

Aprilia RSV4 vs Nissan GT-R: Battle of the computers

We pit the Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC against the Nissan GT-R on track in a battle of the computers. The 180bhp Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) has the most sophisticated electronic rider aid system of any current motorcycle, with eight-stage traction control, wheelie control and launch control. The Nissan GTR is the four-wheeled equivalent with a 3.8 twin-turbo V6 producing 523bhp and some seriously advanced electronic driver aids, including launch control and electronic stability control. MCN took these marvels of electronic and mechanical engineering to Blyton Park Raceway with a datalogger to find out how they feel when you push them around a track, how quickly they accelerate, brake and more importantly which is the fastest around a lap of the circuit? 2013 Opel Mokka trailer

Despite its 4.28 meter measurement, the Mokka generously accommodates five people in a higher seating position. It delivers on Opel's promise to combine attractive design with innovative technologies and upmarket functions, making them accessible to a wider segment of customers. A dynamic driving experience is provided by three efficient engines, including the gasoline 1.6 liter (85 kW/115 hp) and the 1.4 l Turbo (103 kW/140 hp) versions and the 1.7 CDTI (96 kW/130 hp). Safety is enhanced with new cutting edge technologies brought to the SUV B-segment, for example the Driver Assistance Systems that are based on the Opel Eye front camera system, a rear view camera, the unique FlexFix bicycle carrier and the AGR certified seats. The driving dynamics of the Mokka have been tailored to the needs of urban life with all the advantages of off-road capability. This is why apart from front-wheel drive (FWD), the Mokka can be fitted with all-wheel drive (AWD) technology for even better traction and handling. The AWD technology is efficient, clever and affordable as it allows the Mokka to switch from a robust urban SUV to a competent off-roader. In high grip driving conditions such as asphalted roads, the Mokka is in the FWD mode with all the torque on the front wheels. This helps to ensure good fuel economy. However, in order to enhance the ride experience and handling, torque is seamlessly shifted from the front to the rear axle depending on traction or driving situations. On very ...

Ducati 1199 Panigale Press Launch, Milan

Ducati's incredible new 1199 Panigale has just been unveiled to the world's press in Milan. The 195bhp, 190kg 1199 Panigale V-twin superbike has an all-new casty aluminium monocoque chassis and the first all-new Ducati engine in almost 25 years. The fact it starts at the unexpectedly low price of £14995 for the base model and tops out at the unexpectedly high £23495 for the 1199 S Tricolore is just the tip of the iceberg... A significant portion of the additional cost over the base model is for increasing levels of electronic assistance - the Ducati 1199 has options for ABS, full electronically adjustable Ohlins suspension, traction control and even brake force distribution control.
