Eve Ensler - Bush and the War on Terror

Complete program at: fora.tv Author and "Vagina Monologues" playwright Eve Ensler criticizes the Bush Administration's conduct of the War on Terror. ----- Eve Ensler talks about "Insecure at Last: Losing It in Our Security-Obsessed World," a provocative look at America's obsession with security in a post-9/11 world. "Why has all this focus on security made me feel so much more insecure? Nothing is secure. And this is the good news. But only if you are not seeking security as the point of your life." - Eve Ensler When her stage play "The Vagina Monologues" became a runaway hit and an international sensation, Eve Ensler emerged as a powerful voice and champion for women everywhere. Now the brilliant playwright gives us her first major work written exclusively for the printed page. "Insecure at Last" is a timely and urgent look at our security-obsessed world, the drastic measures taken to keep us safe, and how we can truly experience freedom by letting go of the deceptive notion of vigilant "protection." Ensler draws on personal experiences and candid interviews with burka-clad women in Afghanistan; female prisoners in upstate New York; survivors at the Superdome after Katrina; and anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan-sharing unforgettable snapshots that chronicle a post-9/11 existence in which hyped obsession for safety and security has undermined our humanity. The us-versus-them mentality, Ensler explains, has closed our minds and hardened our compassionate hearts. Provocative ...

Eve Ensler's 'The Good Body'

Eve Ensler is back in KL with another round of uproarious and hilarious stories about the secret lives of women in 'The Good Body'. From Bombay to Beverly Hills, Ensler uses 'The Good Body' to examine women who chase the ideals of aesthetic beauty in order to be accepted. Of course, this never-ending quest for physical perfection more often than not results in repression for the majority of the population and some not -so-beautiful but very funny situations! The play makes its Malaysian debut this month. Directed by Susan Lankester it features a cast that includes Ida Nerina, Joanna Bessey, Samantha Schubert, Joanne Kam Poh, Poh, Bella Rahim and Anrie Too. Eve Ensler is known for the 'The Vagina Monologues which became part of a global movement to end violence against women. The play was banned by Kuala Lumpur City Hall in 2002 after complaints from Islamic groups. The opening night proceeds of The Good Body will benefit the Womens Aid Organisation (WAO), a non-governmental organisation committed to confronting violence against women. 1 Billion Rising: V-Day Founder Eve Ensler Launches Global Protest Against Women's Violence

democracynow.org - As the debate over reproductive rights rages in the House, and Senate Republicans have tried to thwart the re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, we speak with Eve Ensler, founder of V-Day, the global movement to end domestic violence, and the playwright behind "The Vagina Monologues." "The fact is we have not busted this notion that the father still dominates and has authority over women and children, and determines the rights of our lives, determines the rights of our futures and bodies," Ensler says. "If we're going to actually free women — which is freeing men, which is allowing everybody a life of dignity and grace and not walking in fear and terror — we have to go further and be disruptive and be dangerous." Ensler has just launched a new global campaign called, "One Billion Rising," which calls on women "and the men who love them" to join together on Feb. 14, 2013, and "dance until the violence stops." Ensler also discusses the first anniversary of the "City of Joy," a groundbreaking new community for women survivors of gender violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
