Replacing Honda Front Struts

After posting the last video on replacing struts I thought I would post this one next. I shot this along with the rest of the Accord front end work that I did last fall. A couple of things are different, the most obvious is that the springs are a much smaller diameter so you really need to be careful when you work with these since the spring compressor doesn't have as much to grab hold of. Second, when you install the struts back on the car care must be taken to get the notch on the strut lined up with the wishbone, if you don't do this the upper wishbone bolt will not go in since it has to fit in a groove on the back of the strut. For the second time I've shown you that I tighten the lower wishbone bolt with the car off of the ground, the fact is I shouldn't do this since I'm told it may ruin the bushing that goes through the lower control arm. I believe this to be possible but I have not experienced any problems doing it this way. For me it just seems like a pain in the butt to try and reach around the tire after I've put the wheel back on. But for those of you that like to point out my faults here is my excuse for not doing it the "right" way. How To Solve An Engine Overheat Condition

www.ericthecarguy.com I actually had fun putting this one together for you since the car I was working on didn't cooperate it made it so I could show you real world problems as they happened, very cool. I think this one is pretty self explanatory so I will save a long explanation. In case you missed the link to the "Bleeding a Cooling System" here is a link for you www.youtube.com Also many have mentioned that the water pump could also be the source of an overheat so here is a link to a video I did covering that subject. www.youtube.comStay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information. www.ericthecarguy.com I've had more than one request for this and since I had a few hours while sitting on my butt waiting for my Dodge engine to show up I thought I would fill the time by making this video for you. I have to say that after the first edit I wasn't too happy and went back and reshot not once but twice and even then I still felt I didn't cover it the way I liked. I should really start scripting these videos, it would make my life soo much easier. Replacing an Accord Wheel Bearing

Ok, here it is finally. A few of you have requested this procedure so here it is. As I said in the video I normally use a different method of removing the hub from the bearing assembly by using a slide hammer. I also normally use a press to reinstall the hub into the new bearing instead of hitting it with a hammer. Life is not perfect and we sometimes have to improvise as I did here. I know a few of you will ask about the size fasteners that I used to hammer the bearing out, I used hardened (8.8) 10x1.25 bolts to do the job. I also promised links to the other videos that relate to this one so here they are. www.ericthecarguy.com It's finally here, the first offering from the ETCG 2.0 series. With this series I hope to take ETCG to different places outside of the garage and into the street so to speak. Wells manufacturing was kind enough to allow me to visit their facility so that me and you the viewer could learn a little bit about what it takes to make some of the parts that are so vital to your vehicles operation. I had a great time on this trip and I hope you enjoy this video as I had a great time making it. I'd like to thank everyone at Wells for taking the time to be interviewed and for showing me around their facility. I'd especially like to thank Mark Hicks for getting this whole thing started and for driving me around Fond du Lac for shooting. I strongly recommend checking out Wells' YouTube channel as they have some great videos on the operation and repair of emissions and electronic systems, here's a link: www.youtube.com You might also want to check out their website www.wellsve.com Lastly you might also want to watch the behind the scenes vlog that I did on my trip to Wells on my ETCG1 channel. www.youtube.com Thanks again to everyone at Wells for having ETCG in your facility, it was a great opportunity and I really enjoyed it. Front Disc Brakes and How to Replace Them

Well here you are after many requests for this one it's finally here. I shot this last spring but I've been saving it for you as a special present. In this episode we go over the principals of operation and replacement of a basic front disc brake set up. It all starts with a shaking steering wheel and ends with new brakes. I think this is a pretty good video overall and gives the important information you would need to perform this task yourself. A couple of notes. I didn't have time to go over how to isolate a brake pulsation between front or rear in this video. Also, I had a very easy time of getting these rotors off, I can assure you that this is not often the case, I could probably do a video just on removing difficult rotors alone. I may do a video on that in the future as I collect some different scenarios for you. How To Solve Honda Idle Problems

www.ericthecarguy.com The viewers have chosen and this weeks video will be about solving Honda idle problems. I'm really not surprised as I get a lot of questions and requests about this very subject. Here are the links I promised in the video that will help you address specific issues mentioned in the video. How To Bleed a Cooling System www.youtube.com How to Check for Vacuum Leaks www.youtube.com Reading Check Engine Light Codes www.youtube.com Diagnosing an Overheat www.youtube.com Hopefully when your done checking all that stuff out you will have solved your Honda's idle problem, if not leave a comment or send me a message and I'll see what I can do just make sure you have tried all the stuff in the videos first as that saves me from typing so much. I also want to add my "Idle Speech" into the mix here: There are a lot of things that can contribute to an idle issue, in fact in the end it may still be there to some degree because of the nature of that engine however here are some things to start with. First start with a good tune up, use NGK or Nippon Denso plugs, don't change the wires if they are OE, if they aren't OE you might consider NGK wires as they are very good and less expensive then OE. A quality cap and rotor should be good. A new air filter also helps. Don't change the PCV valve, if you see an aftermarket PCV valve in there put a Honda in, believe it or not I've seen idle issues caused by aftermarket PCV valves, the OE's last just about forever so you can ...

Yep, it's been one year for ETCG as of this posting. When I started this I was thinking, "I wonder if", now it's "I wonder why I didn't think of this sooner". ETCG is growing every day and I couldn't be happier. The best part is I get to help people I don't even know. Yes, I have to admit to enjoying what I do, now it's time to take it to the next level. I have things in the works for 2010, it's going to be a good year for ETCG so stay tuned. If it wasn't clear in the video this is what ETCG is about, real solutions for real world automotive issues. I hope to make things easy to understand and put to use as soon as you finish watching, that's it, simple really. I could not have done this without you, the viewer, the subscriber, the avid commenter, and everything in between. Special thanks go out to all my YT "friends", if I wasn't so lazy and tired I would post links to their channels here, perhaps later. You are always welcome at EricTheCarGuy.com, this is where most of the new stuff is going to happen for ETCG in the very near future so stay tuned and keep checking back. ericthecarguy.com Stay dirty ETCG

How To Bleed A Cooling System

Kind of a request, I've described this procedure a few times in print but never made a video. As I said in the video if your having issues with a fluctuating idle, no heat, or an overheat problem you may want to start here. Also, if you have just serviced the cooling system in any way this is the procedure I recommend to fill it back up. The only regret I have with this one is the end where I didn't shoot footage of closing up the radiator using the tool that I used in the video, I may show it at some point in the future. How To Find A Vacuum Leak

www.ericthecarguy.com I get questions about engine performance issues all the time and one of the things I tell people to check for is a vacuum leak. This video is pretty straight forward in it's approach to finding a vacuum leak. On thing I might mention is that not all vacuum leaks are at the engine, some HVAC systems run on vacuum and can cause a leak under the dash in some cases so don't forget to look there. I've even seen vacuum operated door locks, that would be fun to find. Just be sure to be careful spraying flammable stuff on a hot engine, you don't want to take one problem and make it a whole lot worse.Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information. How Oil Pressure Works

www.ericthecarguy.com Here is the second offering from last weeks set of videos. The most important thing to note with this is that oil pressure is not created by the pump but rather the resistance to the outlet flow of that pump and part of that resistance is the clearances between the bearings and the other parts inside the engine. If nothing else I hope you are entertained, enjoy!Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information. Honda Accord Valve Adjustment

This one was a request from a couple of viewers, I like to keep you all happy so here you go. This video is actually taken from a larger video I call "Accord Smackdown", in it I replace the timing belt, radiator, a major service, and some other stuff that I don't remember. I think there will be a couple more videos from this "smackdown" in the future, there is some good stuff in there that I think you will like and possibly learn from. If you have other topics you would like covered don't hesitate to let me know, I'm happy to give you what you want. Post them as text or video responses to this or any of my videos. I'm going to get the part number for the tool I used in the video sometime next week and post it here so keep your socks on and check back sometime next week. 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Engine Swap 4.7L Part 1

www.ericthecarguy.com This truck has been a challenge for me over the past couple of weeks as you will seen in the video. The lesson here is do your best to check the engine out before you install it and even that may not be enough. Be careful when doing a job like this especially if you are by yourself as you can get seriously injured if your not careful so work carefully and methodically and things should work out fine. The music is from the site "www.incompetech.com under "Royalty Free Music", it's title is "Merry Go-Distressed", the producer of the site allows the use of this music as long as credit is given, hence the credit given here. How To Use A Grease Gun To Lube A Chassis

Visit me www.ericthecarguy.com I know this one is kind of basic, but for ETCG there is nothing too basic. Unfortunately most vehicles today don't have grease fittings any more so this video may not apply to you and may not help you at all but for those of you that have these fittings consider yourself lucky since with regular lubrication those parts will last just about forever. Does Stop Leak Work?

www.ericthecarguy.com As technicians we all have opinions based on our experiences and sometimes the experiences of others, stop leak seems to be one of those things. In my experience it really hasn't done much for me and I haven't seen it perform any miracles but that's not to say that it hasn't at one time or another. I welcome your responses on this topic and look forward to hearing your opinions just be nice. Stay dirty ETCG

How to Replace Front Struts Part 1

Well I'm finally getting this one up for you, sorry. It's been a busy week and I just haven't had the time to finish this one up but here it is in all its glory. Yes, it is something besides a Honda, in fact it's a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am. I do work on other cars just not that often since I know Honda's and Acura's so well. I hope to do a broad range of videos covering a wide range of subjects so keep watching, eventually I'll get to your request. For now enjoy this video and if you use the spring compressors I did in this video be careful, like I said in the video I've seen people get hurt doing this do take it seriously. Changing a Flat Tire Using The Tools In Your Car

This one goes out to BigLoveZone who posed this question to me while I was editing the video. I hope this is helpful to those that watch. I tried to collect as much accurate information as I could for you but if you have any other questions you can post them to this video or visit the EricTheCarGuy fourm under "Car Questions" and I will take it from there. After making this video I discovered a way to use the hook and lug wrench to jack the car up much faster. I will make an amendment video in the future. Inside My Odyssey Transmission

www.ericthecarguy.com I would hardly call this video complete but you did ask me to make it for you. As of this writing the transmission is shifting fine however the light for the TCC came up and I haven't had time to look into that yet. It's funny though since it does appear to be working fine, it might be a loose connection or some other issue but like I said I haven't had the time lately. Perhaps I'll do an update video with what I find. I guess the big question would be if I would do this again and I would say that I might, but only on my car not someone else's, it's a lot of work to get one of these out without a lift or other useful equipment like a transmission jack. Anyway enjoy the insides of a Honda automatic transmission as I'm sure you won't see it often.Stay dirty ETCG Due to factors beyond the control of EricTheCarGuy, it cannot guarantee against unauthorized modifications of this information, or improper use of this information.
