Go to Data, and select the file called "Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa" (if you use steam it will lie in "C Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps" Then under common or the folder named with your steam name) Press Extract all, in the data directory, the same directory where the voiceextra file lies... There will now be an extra directory in the data folder, (\Data\sound\voice\skyrim.esm\maleuniqueesbern) Thats about it... it shall work now Also for the door, you just have to finish with the dialouge - walk out of the area you are in, then come back into it and the door should open for you!

DigitYswaP (Draoy) found a bug in the game (PC only we believe) where Esbern doesn't work as intended. And I know I'm not the only one that has this problem. 'strikeback7' IMPORTANT!!!! READ! You can also download "Fallout mod manager" you can install it anywhere so it doesn't give you the need to have fallout or oblivion installed. it works the same as oblivionMM. You can do this becaus skyrim/oblivion/fallout all work on the same game engine. Here is a quick fix (as long as you have oblivion)

We now find ourselves in the province of Skyrim! This is a full walkthrough of the entire game, covering every main quest, side quest, and primary location in Skyrim. I start the video by fast-forwarding through all of my looting and selling, since we slaughtered plenty of Thalmor and thugs down in the Riften Ratway. While I'm up near the blacksmith, I get attacked by a naughty Khajiit by the name of Shavari, who turned out to be a Thalmor agent tasked with killing me. Too bad she wasn't very skilled in assassination. :DI loot her, then we travel to Riverwood with Esbern, where we meet up with Delphine again. Esbern tells us about Alduin's Wall and how we may find something there to help us fight & eradicate this dragon invasion. The wall is located at Sky Haven Temple, so off we go as a foursome, into the west. Click Open and locate your Skyrim data directory folder, the default path is this: C:\Program Files\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim\Data 4.) There should be a "Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa", open that and click yes if prompted. NOTE: IF VoicesExtra.bsa does not work, try opening Voices.bsa instead. 5.) Click Extract all and choose the DATA folder as your destination. 6.) Close and open Skyrim IF that doesn't work, use console to tcl in like mentioned in the video. If not you can type this in your console: "setstage MQ202 40" (without the ""), then type in "movetoqt MQ202" This SHOULD teleport you to Esbern's room enabling you to communicate with him. On my previous video I posted what was going on with Esbern while he could not talk. I searched for a solution and found a video that helped me a bit. I felt there was a need to make a better quality video and show the viewer how I applied the fix and that it is working. _________________________________________________________ UPDATE (12/4/2011) - I have updated this video with a link to help those having a problem with "ACCESS DENY". While I was playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim I notice something went wrong in the game. I was on the Alduin's Wall quest, which asked me to look for Esbern. Once i found him I notice I was not hearing a sound from him. Think it could be bad loading I continued on with the quest until I made it to River Wood. Esbern was still not talking and at some point I could not complete the quest... This video is a second try if you will so you can see what I had to do in order to finish the quest.

I love the casting of Max Von Sydow as Esbern. He really stands out from the generic voices of most other actors in the game.

So this is one way to fix the glitch, it's kind of simple and you'll probably shoot yourself for not trying. Second Technique: Download BSA Unpacker. www.tesnexus.com Using the BSA Unpacker locate "voicesextra.bsa" in your Skyrims data folder. Unpack "voicesextra.bsa" to the Data Folder (no need to make a new folder) Restart the game and enjoy! (hopefully) Third Technique: For those still with the glitch and the bsa unpack does not work: Download this www.filesonic.com It's a file of Esbern's dialogue. Extract it and copy it to the Skyrim Data folder. (Usually on your C:Drive, Program Files / The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim / Data)

Walkthrough Alduin's Wall quest and the follow ups. I unpacked the Skyrim - Voice Extra.bsa for Esbern. (PC only) If you play on console and have problems with Esbern not talking and stop you from completing the quest like with Alduin's Wall, just keep making conversation with him. Other npcs will eventually carry on and allow you to complete the quest.

Go through and negotiate the council up unitl Esbern has to speak, which he won't and you could sit waiting for ever or you can open the console window and type in the following setstage MQ302 300 To open the console window, press the button next to the number 1 key above the TAB key.
