The 2011 eurotuner magazine Grand Prix was the year we brought back the 034Motorsport GTI-RS for the world to see what it was capable of after it breaking in 2010, and for its ultimate vindication. Its vindication came in the for of an overall win, and a 1, 2, 2 finish in all 3 events. The GTI-RS is a Mk4 Golf GTI with a mid mounted Audi 3.0l V6, turbocharged to run anywhere from 600-1200HP. It also features a 996 Turbo rear suspension and unique 6-speed transmission to drive the massive rear Porsche turbo twist wheels. We gatecrashed the BMW 1 Series M Coupe launch in our Project E90 M3 and got some track time against the twin-turbo terror! The 1M is an amazing car but the M3 still has the edge, particularly with our GIAC software, GruppeM titanium exhaust and carbon fiber intake. Furthermore, we fitted H&R coilovers, 19" Forgestar wheels, Continental CSC3 tires, six-piston 365mm Brembo front brakes and plenty of weight-saving carbon fiber pieces from BMW Performance, Turner Motorsport and Vorsteiner. While the cars are dicing for the video, our M3 definitely had the advantage on the brakes and at high speed. But the 1M's low-speed torque made it fast out of the turns.
