From Rights Action (www.rightsaction.org On January 8th and 9th 2007, hundreds of police and soldiers in Guatemala forcibly evicted the inhabitants of several communities who were living on lands that a Guatemalan military government had granted to Canadian mining company INCO in 1965. Local indigenous people claim the land to be theirs, and resent the exploitation of a foreign corporation. Canada's Skye Resources now lays claim to the land, and paid workers a nominal sum to destroy people's homes. With the force of the army and police, company workers took chainsaws and torches to people's homes, while women and children stood by. Skye Resources claims that they maintained "a peaceful atmosphere during this action."

This warehouse was inspected on March 3rd by officials from the Building and Standards Commission of the City of Austin. On Thursday, March 5th The Code Enforcement Division of The City of Austin delivered a letter outlining a list of code violations to the Collective. The City mandated that the residents and organizations based in the warehouse must vacate before March 16th. The Collective is looking into all options, but is preparing to vacate the warehouse by the deadline. Before this inspection, the Collective was in negotiations to buy the warehouse from its current owner. The Rhizome Collective is making every effort to work with the City on this matter. Contractors are currently completing an estimate of the cost required to bring the building into compliance with city building codes. Based on conversations with contractors, the Collective does not believe it will be possible to get an estimate, obtain permits and complete the work by the City&rsquo;s deadline. Collective members attended the City Council meeting to ask for assistance on March 12. On 1 April 2012, Occupy SF marched to 888 Turk Street to take over a former clinic owned by the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Since even the Archdiocese has to pay taxes on a vacant building, they'd told the government that it was only vacant recently in order to evade paying taxes. In reality, it'd been vacant for about 5 years. Occupy SF solved the problem for them and Occupied it, complete with medical attention, housing and food for the poor. Refusing to speak to the new tenants, the Archdiocese instead worked with the police, who raided the newly christened SF Commune in the afternoon of 2 April 2012. Nick Anthony Show, who'd recently became a hero when he subdued a violent criminal and held him for police, was struck and treated as though he was resisting arrest, even as he complied with officers' demands. Shaw, US Army veteran, can be seen bleeding from the lip in this video. Most Occupiers were cited for trespassing and released by 6:30 that evening. And Occupy SF threw a party for them.
