The EWR VJ 101 was an experimental German jet fighter VTOL tiltjet aircraft. VJ stood for "Vertikal Jäger", (German for "Vertical Fighter").It was to be the basis for a successor to the F-104G Starfighter, but was cancelled in 1968 after a five-year test program. What you see here is a departure of a Boeing 737-900ER, operating a flight between Newark Liberty International Airport and San Diego's Lindbergh Field. This was shot from my point & shoot camera and I apologize in advance for the quality of the video. We departed from Runway 22R out of Newark on our way to San Diego, arriving five and a half hours later. I flew from Heathrow on the second day of the first round of strikes by British Airways Cabin crew which is why when you hear the cabin announcment, there was only a limited bar available and no duty free. Nearly all of our cabin crew were either Captains or First Officers as well which made the flight more interesting!
