Christus resurgens "Responsorium"

When they came to the place called The Skull, they nailed him to a stake; and they nailed the criminals to stakes, one on the right and one on the left. Christ, rising from the dead, dieth now no more: death shall no more have dominion over Him. Alleluia. Performers: Clemencic Consort

How to Pray the Rosary in Latin - The Sorrowful Mysteries, Part 1/2

This is a video showing how to pray the Holy Rosary. Specifically, it details how to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries (said on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Sundays in Lent) in Latin, the official language of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. I've found that I can better focus on the mysteries of the Rosary when listening and praying privately, and I therefore created this video for myself. I've also found that I tend to focus on what I'm saying more closely when praying in Latin, as I'm not as comfortable with it as I am English. Finally, Latin, the language of Ancient Rome and the Catholic Church, is simply beautiful. I hope you'll find this sacred prayer, said in its native tongue, gratifying spiritually and mentally, and may it bring everyone who listens and meditates upon its mysteries closer to Jesus Christ, whose intimacy is the goal of this whole endeavor. THE PRAYERS OF THE ROSARY Sign of the Cross: In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Sepulchrum Romanum: Largo ... Cum mortuis in lingua mortua: Andante non troppo, con lamento Russian virtuoso Lazar Berman performs the famous piano suite "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881). This 1874 work depicts the composer's experience at an exhibition of the drawings and paintings of his friend Viktor Hartmann (1834-1873), who had passed away the year before. The succession of contrasting movements represents the viewer walking through the exhibition, catching a glimpse of an interesting drawing or painting and examining it carefully. The "Promenade" sections, with their plodding Russian melody and irregular meter, are transitional movements that show Mussorgsky walking haphazardly among the pictures, before stopping to observe a particularly interesting one. For each movement (besides the Promenades), the video displays the surviving sketch by Hartmann that most likely inspired Mussorgsky's music. However, as much of his work has not survived, not all the Hartmann pictures shown here have been definitively linked to Mussorgsky's suite (these are conjectures), and some of the images ...

Quicksand: Mickey Rooney, Peter Lorre, Jeanne Cagney, Barbara Bates (1950 Movie)

thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com Quicksand (1950) is a United Artists film noir starring Mickey Rooney and Peter Lorre in a story about a garage mechanic's descent into crime. The film has been described as "film noir in a teacup... a pretty nifty little picture" in which Rooney "cast himself against his Andy Hardy goody goody image." Young auto mechanic Dan Brady (Mickey Rooney) takes $20 from a cash register at work to go on a date with blonde femme fatale Vera Novak (Jeanne Cagney). Brady intends to put the money back before it is missed, but the garage's bookkeeper shows up earlier than scheduled. As Brady scrambles to cover evidence of his petty theft, he fast finds himself drawn into an ever worsening "quicksand" of crime, each of his misdeeds more serious than the last. His descent is sped along by his heartless and morally lacking boss Oren Mackay (Art Smith), and the seedy owner of a pinball arcade on Santa Monica Pier, Nick Dramoshag (Peter Lorre). Brady and Vera split when Vera purchases a mink coat with money Brady has stolen. Brady's still-loyal but unappreciated former girlfriend Helen (Barbara Bates) then reenters the scene and tries to woo him back. Later fleeing what he believes will be a murder charge, Brady carjacks a sedan which happens to be driven by a sympathetic lawyer (Taylor Holmes). By movie's end Brady is back with his faithful girlfriend, who promises to wait for him while he spends the next few years of his life in prison. Cast includes ...

The Last Man on Earth: Vincent Price, Franca Bettoia, Giacomo Rossi-Stuart (1964 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Last Man on Earth (Italian: L'ultimo uomo della Terra) is a 1964 science fiction horror film based upon the Richard Matheson 1954 novel I Am Legend. The film was directed by Ubaldo Ragona and Sidney Salkow, and stars Vincent Price. The script was written in part by Matheson, but he was dissatisfied with the result and chose to be credited as "Logan Swanson". William Leicester, Furio M. Monetti, and Ubaldo Ragona were the other writers. The Last Man on Earth was filmed in Rome, Italy, with some location shots taken at Esposizione Universale Roma. In the year 1968, every day is the same for Dr. Robert Morgan (Price): he wakes up, gathers his weapons and then goes hunting for vampires. Morgan lives in a world where everyone else has been infected by a plague that has turned them into undead, vampiric creatures that cannot stand sunlight, fear mirrors, and are repelled by garlic. They would kill Morgan if they could, but fortunately, they are weak and unintelligent. At night, Morgan locks himself inside his house; during the day, he kills as many vampires as he can, burning the bodies. A flashback sequence explains that, three years before, Morgan's wife and daughter had succumbed to the plague, before it was widely known by the public that the dead would return to life. Instead of taking his wife to the same public burn pit used to dispose of his daughter's corpse, Morgan buried her without the knowledge of the authorities. When his ...

Faust: Gösta Ekman, Emil Jannings, Camilla Horn, William Dieterle (1926 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Faust (German title: Faust - Eine deutsche Volkssage) is a silent film produced in 1926 by UFA, directed by FW Murnau, starring Gösta Ekman as Faust, Emil Jannings as Mephisto, Camilla Horn as Gretchen/Marguerite, Frida Richard as her mother, Wilhelm Dieterle as her brother and Yvette Guilbert as Marthe Schwerdtlein, her aunt. Murnau's film draws on older traditions of the legendary tale of Faust as well as on Goethe's classic version. UFA wanted Ludwig Berger to direct Faust, as Murnau was engaged with Variety; Murnau pressured the producer and, backed by Jannings, eventually persuaded Erich Pommer to let him direct the movie. Faust was Murnau's last German movie, and directly afterward he moved to the US under contract to William Fox to direct Sunrise (1927); when the film premiered in the Ufa-Palast am Zoo of Berlin, Murnau was already shooting in Hollywood. The demon Mephisto has a bet with an Archangel that he can corrupt a righteous man's soul and destroy in him what is divine. If he succeeds, the Devil will win dominion over earth. The Devil delivers a plague to the village where Faust, an elderly alchemist, lives. Though he prays to stop the death and starvation, nothing happens. Faust then makes a trial, 24-hour bargain with the Devil. Faust will have Mephisto's service till the sand runs out in an hourglass, at which time the Devil will rescind the pact. Ball won two Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for this show, for the years 1966-67 and 1967-68. Lucille Désirée Ball (August 6, 1911 -- April 26, 1989) was an American comedian, film, television, stage and radio actress, model, film and television executive, and star of the sitcoms I Love Lucy, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, The Lucy Show, Here's Lucy and Life With Lucy. One of the most popular and influential stars in America during her lifetime, with one of Hollywood's longest careers, especially on television, Ball began acting in the 1930s, becoming both a radio actress and B-movie star in the 1940s, and then a television star during the 1950s. She was still making films in the 1960s and 1970s. Ball received thirteen Emmy Award nominations and four wins. She was the recipient of the Golden Globe Cecil B. CIA Archives: Vietnam War - Battle of Ia Drang Valley (1965 Documentary Film)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Battle of Ia Drang was the first major battle between the United States Army and the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN) (referred to by US fighting units as the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) during the Vietnam War). The two-part battle took place between November 14 and November 18, 1965, at two landing zones (LZs) northwest of Plei Me in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam (approximately 35 miles south-west of Pleiku). The battle derives its name from the Drang River which runs through the valley northwest of Plei Me, in which the engagement took place. "Ia" means "river" in the local Montagnard language. Representing the American forces were elements of the 1st Battalion and 2nd Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment, and the 5th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army. The North Vietnamese forces included the 66th and 1st battalion/33rd Regiments of the NVA as well National Liberation Front (NLF) (known world wide as the Viet Cong) of the H15 Battalion. The battle featured close air support by US bombers. Both sides suffered heavy losses and both claimed victory. The US lost 234 dead, with 242 wounded; November 17 was the deadliest ambush for Americans in the entire Vietnam War, with 155 men killed and 126 men wounded. The battle is the subject of the critically acclaimed book We Were Soldiers Once... And Young by Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway. I Eat Your Skin: Zombie Bloodbath - Directed by Del Tenney (1964 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com More Horror movies: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com I Eat Your Skin (Original title: Zombies) is a 1964 horror film directed by Del Tenney. Writer Tom Harris arrives on a beautiful island in search of material on voodoo legends for his novel. He unfortunately stumbles onto the secret laboratory of a mad scientist who is experimenting on reversing the aging process. The film was not released until six years after it was made. Film distributor Jerry Gross bought it and paired it on a double bill with I Drink Your Blood and renamed it I Eat Your Skin, although the two have nothing in common. Previous titles of the film include Zombie Bloodbath and Voodoo Blood Bath. Del Tenney (born 1930) is an American actor, film director, screenwriter and film producer. He established a legacy in film with several low-budget horror/exploitation films in the 1960s, including The Horror of Party Beach (1964). Based in Connecticut, Tenney's other films include Psychomania (aka Violent Midnight), The Curse of the Living Corpse, and I Eat Your Skin. I Drink Your Blood is a cult horror film originally released in 1970. The film was written and directed by David E. Durston, produced by Jerry Gross, and starred Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury and Lynn Lowry (who is uncredited in the film). Like many B-movies of its time, I Drink Your Blood was a Times Square exploitation film and drive-in theater staple. American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC): President Obama Policy Conference Speech (2012)

thefilmarchive.org March 4, 2012 The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. The current President of AIPAC is Michael Kassen from Fairfield, Connecticut. Describing itself as "America's Pro-Israel Lobby," AIPAC is a mass-membership, American organization whose members include Democrats, Republicans, and independents. The New York Times calls it "the most important organization affecting America's relationship with Israel." It has been described as one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, DC. Its critics have stated it acts as an agent of the Israeli government with a "stranglehold" on the United States Congress with its power and influence. There is some disagreement as to where AIPAC's agenda lies ideologically. Some critics on the political left allege that AIPAC holds views that are politically conservative in their nature, while AIPAC's membership has also been described as "overwhelmingly Democratic" by conservatives. AIPAC describes itself as a bipartisan organization, and bills it lobbies for in Congress are always jointly sponsored by both a Democrat and Republican. In 2005, a Pentagon analyst pled guilty to charges of passing US government secrets to two AIPAC staffers in what is known as the AIPAC espionage scandal. Both staffers were later fired by AIPAC. In 2009 all charges against the former AIPAC employees were dropped ...

Roswell Incident: Department of Defense Interviews - Gerald Anderson (1991)

thefilmarchive.org In 1992, Crash at Corona, written by Stanton Friedman and Don Berliner, suggested a high-level cover-up of a UFO recovery, based on documents they obtained such as the Majestic 12 archive. These documents were anonymously dropped off at a UFO researcher's house in 1984 and purported to be 1952 briefing papers for incoming President Dwight Eisenhower describing a high-level government agency whose purpose was to investigate aliens recovered at Roswell and to keep such information hidden from public view. Friedman had done much of the research for The Roswell Incident with William Moore, and Crash at Corona built on that research. The title contains Corona instead of Roswell as Corona is geographically closer to the Foster ranch crash site. The time-line is largely the same as previously, with Marcel and Cavitt visiting the ranch on Sunday, July 6. But the book says that Brazel was "taken into custody for about a week" and escorted into the offices of the Roswell Daily Record on July 10 where he gave an account he was told to give by the government. A sign of the disputes between various researchers is on display as Friedman and Berliner move the Barnett account back to near Socorro and introduce a new eyewitness account of the site from Gerald Anderson who provided vivid descriptions of both a downed alien craft and four aliens, of which at least one was alive. The authors note that much of their evidence had been dismissed by UFO Crash at Roswell ...

Golda Meir Interview on Arab-Israeli Relations and Terrorism (1973)

thefilmarchive.org Golda Meir (Hebrew: גּוֹלְדָּה מֵאִיר; earlier Golda Meyerson, born Golda Mabovich (Голда Мабович); May 3, 1898 -- December 8, 1978) was a teacher, kibbutznik and politician who became the fourth Prime Minister of the State of Israel. Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel on March 17, 1969, after serving as Minister of Labour and Foreign Minister. Israel's first and the world's third woman to hold such an office, she was described as the "Iron Lady" of Israeli politics years before the epithet became associated with British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. Former prime minister David Ben-Gurion used to call Meir "the best man in the government"; she was often portrayed as the "strong-willed, straight-talking, grey-bunned grandmother of the Jewish people." In 1974, after the conclusion of the Yom Kippur War, Meir resigned as prime minister. She died in 1978. After Levi Eshkol's sudden death on February 26, 1969, the party elected Meir as his successor. Meir came out of retirement to take office on March 17, 1969, serving as prime minister until 1974. Meir maintained the coalition government formed in 1967, after the Six-Day War, in which Mapai merged with two other parties (Rafi and Ahdut HaAvoda) to form the Israel Labour party. In 1969 and the early 1970s, Meir met with many world leaders to promote her vision of peace in the Middle East, including Richard Nixon (1969), Nicolae Ceausescu (1972) and Pope Paul VI (1973). DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Great Gabbo (1929) is an American early sound film musical drama film directed by James Cruze, based on a story ("The Rival Dummy") by Ben Hecht and starring Erich von Stroheim and Betty Compson. The movie follows a brilliant ventriloquist "The Great Gabbo" (Stroheim) who, as he spirals down into madness, increasingly uses his dummy "Otto" as his only means of self-expression—an artist driven insane by his work. Gabbo's gimmick is his astonishing ability to make Otto talk—and even sing—while Gabbo himself smokes, drinks and eats. Gabbo's girlfriend and assistant (Betty Compson) loves him, but is driven to another performer (Donald Douglas) by Gabbo's deteriorating personality. Cast Erich von Stroheim as The Great Gabbo Betty Compson as Mary Donald Douglas as Frank Marjorie Kane as Babe Marbeth Wright as Dancer John F. Hamilton as Neighbour Harry Ross as Performer George Grandee as Otto (voice) The film's basic plot and themes would later be resurrected many times, most famously in the British portmanteau film Dead of Night (1945), two episodes of the popular television series The Twilight Zone ("The Dummy," Season 3, Episode 33 and "Caesar and Me," Season 5, Episode 148); and the 1978 Anthony Hopkins film Magic. An episode of The Simpsons, "Krusty Gets Kancelled," also featured a ventriloquist's dummy by the name of Gabbo. Oh, Mr. Porter!: Will Hay, Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt (1937 Movie)

DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Oh, Mr Porter! is a British comedy film released in 1937 starring Will Hay with Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt and directed by Marcel Varnel. While not his most commercially successful, it is probably his best-known film to modern audiences. It is widely acclaimed as the best of Hay's work, and a classic of its time and genre. The plot of Oh, Mr Porter was loosely based on the Arnold Ridley play The Ghost Train and was later remade (with a naval setting) as Up the Creek (1958) with David Tomlinson and Peter Sellers. The title was taken from Oh! Mr Porter, a music hall song. Jimmy Perry said that the triumvirate of Captain Mainwaring, Corporal Jones and Private Pike in Dad's Army was inspired by watching Oh, Mr Porter.
