ExxonMobil's Dirty Secrets From Indonesia to Nigeria to DC: Steve Coll on "Private Empire"

DemocracyNow.org - We continue our conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Steve Coll, author of the exhaustive book, "Private Empire: ExxonMobil and American Power." He examines controversial role ExxonMobil has played in Afghanistan and Indonesia, where it operated lucrative gas fields amidst a bloody war for independence. Coll also discusses the corporate giant's involvement in the controversial natural gas drilling process known as "fracking" known as fracking, and the role of its lobbyists could play in the upcoming US election. Under Questioning by Cantwell, Exxon CEO Estimates Oil Should Cost $60-70 Per Barrel

On May 12, 2011, when questioned by US Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) at a Senate Finance Committee hearing, Exxon Mobil Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rex Tillerson said that oil should cost between $60 and $70 per barrel, if the price of oil were based on supply and demand fundamentals. Oil was trading at $98 per barrel on Thursday morning, after inexplicitly plunging 5.5 percent yesterday. For more information: cantwell.senate.gov

Global Energy Prospects by Tim Cejka '73, ExxonMobil Exploration Company (IUP Geoscience)

Energy independence is an outmoded idea, Tim Cejka, recently retired president of ExxonMobil Exploration Company, told a packed classroom in this guest lecture sponsored by the Department of Geoscience. As the GDPs of China and India rise and these countries aspire to live like the United States, electrical demand "will be the overwhelming piece of the global energy puzzle." This means, Cejka said, the future is "energy interdependence." Video: Tyrone Jones and Crispin Haven, IUP-TV Apply to IUP Geoscience: www.iup.edu Read more about Tim Cejka '73: www.iup.edu

Report From The Texas Border

All this talk about Border Security is just politics - ExxonMobil leases about 2 million acres along the South Texas border and they have built roads around the Border Patrol Checkpoints. If anything, the so-called federal border security effort has only made life more dangerous for the ranchers, the immigrants, the dopers, and the oilfield workers. ExxonMobil's operations are, and have historically been, major bases of operations for criminal organizations and only ExxonMobil can change that. And, they are not inclined to do so. Law Enforcement does not have the training and safety equipment to patrol ExxonMobil's active oilfields.

Private Empire: Author Steve Coll on State-Like Powers, Influence of Oil Giant Exxon Mobil

DemocracyNow.org - We look at one of the largest and most powerful corporations in the world: Exxon Mobil. Last week, the corporate giant reported it earned $9.5 billion in profits in the first three months of this year -- or almost $104 million per day. We speak with Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Steve Coll who pulls back the curtain on Exxon Mobil in his exhaustive new book, "Private Empire: Exxon Mobil and American Power." "Exxon Mobil really sees itself as an independent sovereign in the world, almost the equivalent of a state," Coll says. "They really are one of the most closed corporations headquartered in the United States." Exxon-Mobil Yellowstone Oil Spill Cause Remains a Mystery

I remember being told by the White House at first that 1000 barrels a day were spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, we now know that was a huge lie. Hundreds of cleanup crews are scouring the banks of the Yellowstone after a pipeline break this weekend sent an estimated thousand barrels of crude oil into the river. The cause of the breech is still a mystery. The president of the Exxon-Mobil Pipeline Company held a press conference Monday along the river. But one resident, whose wife was treated at a local hospital, says he didn't hear enough answers. Hundreds of workers line the shore of the Yellowstone River in Laurel. It's the area hit hardest by a pipeline leak that sent as many as a thousand barrels, or 42000 gallons, of crude oil into the waterway. "That's where we have most of the resources deployed right now," said Exxon-Mobil Pipeline President Gary Pruessing, "we are certainly committed to be here until all the cleanup is done." Pruessing addressed the media Monday morning. He says the cause of the disaster and the scope of the cleanup ahead are still unclear, but 32000 feet of oil-absorbent boom and 2300 pads line the river and its shore. "We will work with the individual homeowners," said Pruessing, "we want to make sure they are kept whole." He says they've received 71 phone calls from homeowners looking to make a claim. "I just want to apologize personally," Pruessing said as he shook the hand of an affected homeowner. But, Billings resident Mike Scott says he ...

Exxon Mobil's Hydrogen technology

www.hydrofuelsys.com Some of us pioneers in the "On Demand Hydrogen Technology" also known as HHO like it when we see the big boys jumping in. Yes we've been doing this for years, and now Exxon Mobil has taken notice. "Lowering harmful emissions, and raising fuel economy by as much as 80%." Its refreshing to hear the big boys making these claims, validating our research.
