Released two years earlier than the NES, this system served as the basis for Nintendo's rise to power -- even if it was heavily redesigned when it was brought to North America and the rest of the world. Famicom Dojo: The Battery Backup

See more at FamicomDojo.TV: famicomdojo.tv Season 1, Episode 2 In episode two, we take a look at how the Famicom Disk System revolutionized console gaming (despite never being released outside of Japan), and the subsequent advent of the battery backup cartridge. As a result, games like Metroid required a password "save" system when it came to the US because battery backup cartridges were not yet cost-effective enough. The Zelda games had a battery backup save that imitated the functions of the disk system, but neither game was capable of the expanded sound that the Famicom Disk System allowed, and so had to have its music and sound effects reprogrammed. There's much more. Read our show notes to find out! Facebook: www.facebook.com Twitter: twitter.com Listen to our weekly audio podcast on iTunes: phobos.apple.com

Mii Prototype Development History [From NES to Wii] GCD 2007

www.unseen64.net "The development and history of the Mii avatar was a long and arduous process, taking about 20 years to reach fruition. Famed video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed information regarding such a process during his keynote speech at the Game Developers Conference in 2007. He stated that the current Mii design is based on traditional Japanese wooden dolls (known as "Kokeshi"), and also highlighted several stages of the Mii's development process. The idea first appeared for the Famicom Disk System, but confusion over how the idea could be a game halted development. The idea appeared again with the Nintendo 64DD, where the player could edit a 3D character with a wide variety of clothes. Again, however, the project was never furthered. With the release of the Nintendo GameCube the idea was incorporated into Stage Debut, an unreleased game which planned to make use of the e-Reader and a camera attachment, but this idea was also canceled, as those at Nintendo feared there was not really a game to make out of it. The build Miyamoto showed during his conference showed a virtual Miyamoto dancing with some Pikmin upon a stage. Around the time of the development of the Wii, a separate team at Nintendo were working on a friend registering software for the Nintendo DS. Within the software they were also developing a program where, in a manner similar to the Japanese puzzle game Fukuwarai, the player had to place the different parts of the face onto a drawing of ...

ActRaiser (Super Famicom): Final Battle - God vs. Satan

The epic final battle. I didn't record the battles before this because they're all just refights with the previous bosses, which can all be seen in my other videos. Anyway, there aren't any differences between the NA/JPN versions here. Oh, and a little bit of parting trivia: Most US gamers should be familiar with Nintendo of America's strict policies against offensive content (including religious references) way back in the day. Well, this game's religious undertones aren't exactly subtle (it's very clearly a holy allegory), and in a feeble attempt to cover them up, Enix changed some of the dialogue around. As far as I know, the main character is referred to as "The Master" as opposed to "God" in the SFC version, and the antagonist is referred to as "Tanzra" as opposed to "Satan".

Pinball is a 1984 arcade game created by Nintendo. The game is designed to simulate a game of pinball. It was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System later that year. In 1985 it reached North America as one of 18 launch titles. The Nintendo Entertainment System version added an alternating two-player mode. It was later re-released as an e-reader Card game, and is also playable as an unlockable mini-game in Doubutsu no Mori for the Nintendo 64 and Animal Crossing on the Nintendo GameCube. CGRundertow - SUPER FAMICOM Video Game Console Review

Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow video game console review of the Super Famicom, the Japanese version of the Super Nintendo. Released in 1990, the Super Famicom/Super Nintendo went on to become the top selling 16-bit console and a favorite among many gamers. The Japanese design (similar to Super Nintendos in Europe & Australia) is more sleek and rounded than the blocky North American version, but has the same hardware and functionality "under the hood." This is a must have for anyone looking to experience the many classic titles that were released exclusively in Japan. This review demonstrates the use of the Super Famicom with commentary from CGRundertow reviewer Kevin. STRIKER (INTRO - GAMEPLAY - SNES - SUPER FAMICOM - 1993) ★ ワールドサッカー

Striker is a soccer video game released by Rage Software in 1992 for the Commodore Amiga, Amiga CD32, Atari ST, PC, Mega Drive/Genesis, and Super Nintendo. It was bundled in one of the Amiga 1200 launch packs. It was one of the first soccer games to feature a 3D viewpoint, after Simulmondo's I Play 3D Soccer. In 1993 it was released in Japan by Coconuts Japan for the Super Famicom as World Soccer (ワールドサッカー), while the French Super Nintendo version of Striker is known as Eric Cantona Football Challenge, playing on the popularity of French forward Eric Cantona, and the North American Super Nintendo release of Striker was known as World Soccer '94: Road to Glory. A sequel, World Cup Striker, was released for the Super Nintendo in 1994. It was published in Japan by Coconuts Japan and in Europe by Elite. A Game Boy port was also released at the same time, in Europe it was released as "Soccer", in North America as "Elite Soccer" (both published by GameTek), and in Japan as "World Cup Striker" (published by Coconuts Japan). In 1995, Striker: World Cup Special was released for the 3DO, and a year later Striker: World Cup Premiere Stage was released for the PlayStation. (.................................) " This 1992 release was the best, and possibly only, football game to come out on the Super Nintendo. Players got a birds eye view of the pitch, and when playing against the computer, always attacked the goal upwards in the first half. For some reason it was a lot easier ...

Otocky, a musical shooter (Famicom Disk System)

I became curious about this game because someone else in my favorites indirectly introduced me to this game. Toshio Iwai created ElectroPlankton. If you ever wanted to know why Nintendo took interest in this guy, here's his hybrid of a shooter and a music game. Admittedly I became too obsessed with making something that sounds like a song to shoot things. So I beat Arcade Mode so I can fool around with the game in BGM mode where I can't be hurt/killed. Generative music can make anyone a master composer. This game though, she BE my master!
