A racing great: Juan Manuel Fangio Stuttgart, Jun 07, 2011 ■Fangio would have turned 100 years old on 24 June 2011 ■Senior driver of the Mercedes-Benz team in 1954 and 1955 ■After his career ended, the five-time Formula 1 world champion became the Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Stuttgart -- Racing driver Juan Manuel Fangio was the leading figure in Mercedes-Benz's campaign to win the Formula 1 World Championship in the 1954 and 1955 seasons. Fangio formed an almost symbiotic partnership with the W 196 R racing car: "It's the perfect car. The machine which every driver dreams about their whole life long," he once said of the Silver Arrow. Fangio drove to a total of five Formula 1 world titles in vehicles from four different manufacturers. There was something very special about his relationship with Mercedes-Benz though. He had already been working as a dealer for the Stuttgart-based brand in Argentina since 1951. And following the end of his racing career, he became President of Mercedes-Benz Argentina SA in 1974. He died in Buenos Aires on 17 July 1995. It was at the French Grand Prix on 4 July 1954 that Mercedes-Benz made its first ever appearance with the new Silver Arrows from the W 196 R series. The victor at the Reims circuit was Juan Manuel Fangio, who had been world champion in 1951 and finished second in 1950 and 1953. The Argentinean was already aged 43 at the time, making him older than many of the other drivers in the field. He had furthermore suffered a ...

For these achievements, and because of the time they were accomplished, he is regarded by many as the "greatest driver of all time". Fangio was born on San Juan's day in 1911 in Balcarce, Argentina to Italian parents from the small central Italian village of Castiglione Messer Marino, near Chieti. He began his racing career in Argentina in 1934, driving a 1929 Ford Model A which he had rebuilt.[2] During his time racing in Argentina, he drove Chevrolet cars and was Argentine National Champion in 1940 and 1941[2]. He first came to Europe to race in 1949, funded by the Argentinian Automobile Club and the Argentinian government

Juan Manuel Fangio, Grand Prix Monza 1957.

Many consider the Argentinian Juan Manuel the greatest driver of all time. He was 46 years old when he won his last driver's title in 1957. He had previously won the world championship five times(with four different teams), and runner up twice. Most of his rivals were young enough to be his sons, coming from privilaged backgrounds, far removed from Fangio's who came from a remote corner of Argentina, from a dusty frontier town called Balcarce. His parents were immigrants from the Abruzzi region of Italy and raised thier six children, (three boys and three girls), to believe in god and to respect the dignity of hard work. Fangio worked as a car mechanic for almost forty years, racing primitive, self made cars in incredibly arduous South American long distance races which made the Grand Prix seem like childs play. These races were held over thousands of miles of tough terrain spanning weeks on end of absolute marathon madness, crazy, crazy, crazy. In my opinion, "The Old Man" was a driving Genius. Fangio died in 1995, aged 84 at his home in Argentina.

Maserati History - JM Fangio & Farina

Juan Manuel Fangio, a name that will mean a lot for Maserati. During his second season of European racing the Argentine chose to run with a 4 CL T 48 and won his very first race in Sanremo on the Ospedaletti circuit, continuing the 1949 season, with important successes. In the same year in the Grand Prix of Lausanne Farina confirmed Maserati 4 T 48 CL success. Farina the following year became the first Formula 1 world champion, driving an Alfa Romeo. Maserati instead went on the track with private drivers. In 1951 to win the world championship of Formula 1 was Fangio on Alfa Romeo but in another prestigious event, the street circuit of Parist the winner was Farina, the reigning world champion, with a Maserati 4 CL T. Maserati, considering not competitive enough their single-seat car, developed the new 6 GCM with a 2-liter and 6-cylinder engine respecting the new Formula 1 rules and asigned it to Fangio. But a serious accident in Monza prevented Fangio from racing throughout the season. For Maserati the year that was supposed to be a revival year was a recovery and waiting year, only at the Grand Prix of Italy in Monza, Froilan Gonzalez and Felice Bonetto and competed with Ascari and Ferrari, already world champions, winning at the end of the second and fifth place, with their Maseratis 6 GCM. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Juan Manuel Fangio: un nome che significherà molto per la maserati. alla sua seconda stagione di corse europee l ...

My God Is An Angry God (Juan Manuel Fangio Castiga Los Pecados Del Mundo)

Peter Peter Hughes "My God Is An Angry God (Juan Manuel Fangio Castiga Los Pecados Del Mundo)" Directed by Davey G. Johnson The first of the album's "mission" songs finds the assassin Fangio taking out a target about whom we know little more than that he doesn't seem to have any business hanging out in a synagogue. The venue is significant, however, in that our Catholic-born protagonist finds in the idea of the Old Testament God — the "God of wrath" — some measure of justification for his role as hammer of justice. Jericho/Buffalo confusion merely a symptom of overarching Borgesian spatiotemporal displacement. 28th April 2011, Scalextric Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe. Fangio qualifying.

A bit of fun! The Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe in Scalextric, as created by Dan Hull from memory - and extremely accurate it is as well! During an afternoon of BBQs and racing, the first race was between Juan Manuel Fangio in a Maserati 250F, in which he won the 1957 F1 championship, and a Citroen 2CV. Although the Maserati is supremely faster than the Citroen, the lack any decent grip caused Fangios's Maserati to crash on several occasion, letting the reliable Citroen to clench the race victory by 3 laps. Very Tortoise and Hare!
