Farm Sanctuary

During my 3 day visit to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen, NY, I took lots of videos and pictures of the animals so I could share a bit of the sanctuary (which I think is the most peaceful place on earth) with you! There was also additional footage provided by Farm Sanctuary. This video will bring you face to face with animals that have been rescued from horrible lives and ultimately from slaughter. Some were literally taken off of the dead piles at slaughterhouses. They will live out the rest of their lives in peace at Farm Sanctuary.

Farm Sanctuary Piglets at Play

Sprinkles came to us as a nervous, skinny little piglet who wouldnt eat. Rescued from a factory farm that had separated him from his mother, docked his tail and castrated him without anesthesia, Sprinkles was traumatized and scared of the world. Tim was the runt of his litter. Found malnourished and sickly, he had a badly-injured foot and a large hernia and faced premature death. Abandoned by those who were supposed to care for him, Tim was inconsolable when he first arrived at our New York Shelter. Alone, these little pigs were timid, frightened and sad. And though they warmed up to and sought solace from their caregivers, they still longed for the comfort that only another member of their species could provide. Lucky for them, we had the exact medicine they needed to pull through and wasted no time introducing the two. Bonded within moments of meeting, Sprinkles and Tim received the greatest gifts any animal could ask for — permanent refuge and a friendship that will last a lifetime. Since the happy day they met, the two have been unstoppable, as you can see from their wild romp in this sweet video. Confident and deliriously happy, Sprinkles and Tim are now grown, but remain the best of friends.

Farm Sanctuary, My Friends at the Farm

The green pastures and idyllic barnyard scenes of years past, which are still portrayed in children's books, have been replaced by windowless metal sheds, wire cages, gestation crates, and other confinement systems—what is now known as "factory farming." This very educational video, narrated by Casey Affleck, shows kids the truth about factory farms and the animals living on them.

Farm Sanctuary Reveals Problems With Wool

My good friend Stephanie Ernst, who writes the www.animalrights.change.org blog, posted a compelling blog entry about sheep and wool today. She wrote about common practices in the wool industry that are unbelievably barbaric and painful to the sheep, such as mulesing. This practice of tying down sheep and slicing off the skin surrounding the tail without anesthetics is something I learned about for the first time at Farm Sanctuary this summer. I always knew that as a vegan I would stop wearing wool because it is an animal product, but I didnt realize the extent of the suffering and painful mutilations associated with wool production. In this Vegan Break episode, Angela from farm sanctuary describes some of the reasons why wool definitely isnt something I want to support, let alone wear.

Pigs Arrive at Farm Sanctuary After Midwest Flood Rescue

In all, American Humane's Animal Emergency Services team rescued 68 pigs from the Iowa floods (in and around Oakville and the "Big Ditch" Levee) and one from Illinois -- "Toby," who has already found a home in Kansas. The farmers who had owned the pigs relinquished custody of the pigs to Farm Sanctuary through the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship's state veterinarian. On July 10, 2008, the final group of pigs arrived at Farm Sanctuary's Watkins Glen, NY facility and began settling in to their new, safe surroundings. Because of the large number of pigs, and the fact that the numbers will soon be growing larger -- 10 of them will be giving birth -- Farm Sanctuary is seeking homes for "levee pigs" and piglets. If you would like to offer housing and lifetime care for one or more of these animals, please contact shelter@farmsanctuary.org. You can learn more about American Humane's Animal Emergency Services and the Midwest flood rescue at www.americanhumane.org .

Ahimsa is a Sanskrit word that means no harm or no violence. It is the philosophy by which Gandhi led his life. In this film we journey to a farm animal sanctuary in Colorado and meet people who live by the concept of Ahimsa and see how it affects the choices they make what to eat, what to wear, how to treat all life around them: choices that we all make that affect this world in profound ways. The New Dawn Montana Farm Sanctuary

SupremeMasterTV.com -- The Shining World Compassion Award The New Dawn Montana Farm Sanctuary. Episode: 1659, Air Date: 31 March 2011. Script Everywhere in the world, we can observe and be touched by acts of kindness. People from all walks of life, faiths, and cultures extend themselves beyond the call of duty to help others unconditionally. Through their noble deeds, humanity as a whole is elevated. To commend virtuous actions and encourage more people to be inspired by their examples, Supreme Master Ching Hai has lovingly created a series of awards, including the Shining World Leadership Award, Shining World Compassion Award, Shining World Hero and Heroine Awards, Shining World Honesty Award, Shining World Protection Award, Shining World Intelligence Award, and Shining World Inventor Award, to recognize some of the most exemplary, generous, caring, and courageous people who walk amongst us. It's an act of love, predominantly that drives me to do this because of the victimization of animals by us humans. And, it's also part of my mission to help our human race evolve to become the more compassionate beings we were meant to be. It's going to be a better world if we model that kind of a way of being with other creatures. After retiring in 2007, Susan Eakins and her husband Lee made a truly courageous decision. They took their life savings and bought eight hectares of land in a rural part of Montana, USA. They acquired the parcel not to build a residence for themselves, but ...

Farm Sanctuary California visit

I took a nice drive a few hours out of San Francisco to visit the famous Farm Sanctuary near Orland, CA. It's the second of two sanctuaries, the first one is in upper New York. As you can see it's a beautiful and peaceful place where many animals have been rescued from horrible factory farm conditions. It's a great place to go to re-connect with animals and re-charge your soul. (And you may do a little thinking while you're there about whether you should be eating them at all.)
