Draping for Apparel Design: www.amazon.com If you're looking for a professional dressform, look for "Wolf dressforms" (wolfform.com). Mine is called a "MyDouble" dressform; it's mostly for fitting garments to your specific measurements, I've draped a few garments on it and the professional forms are definitely better! But don't stress if you can't get one or don't know anyone with one, it's definitely a big investment! The alternative for draping I'm going to show you will only require a pattern purchase, no hundreds-of-dollars dress form :) The dress on the dressform was NOT made by me (I wish!). It's by the Japanese brand Angelic Pretty.

The most difficult part was to achieve a transparency in the dress by using a correction pen. If you have water colors or tempera colors- it would work great- but at this point I had only this one sticky correction pen and a q-tip. There`sa common perception that fashion industry is all about parties and catwalk shows. In fact there is a lot of hard work behind it. I work in my studio from ten to ten. Sometimes even more. I'm back! Here's part 1 of 2 of my front bodice tutorial. I forgot to talk about the fabric! D'oh! I'm using muslin, but any plain-weave fabric will work (like quilting fabric). Muslin is just the cheapest and it's easy to make marks on. If you use a fabric that isn't plain weave (which I don't recommend for beginners!) you'll have to cut it out in the measurements you need, because you won't be able to tear it.

When the body moves, the wrinkles and folds increase and become more visible, and they always follow the body action forms. It is not necessary to indicate all the detailed wrinkles and folds, since there are so many. You should just draw major ones to emphasize the actions.
