Clark Gable unedited, 8th Air Force film stock

Clark Gable is just a two-bar Joe doing a job By Andrew A. Rooney, Stars and Stripes staff writer June 7, 1943 Herewith a report on Capt. Clark Gable: Last summer he quieted a rumor that he was going to accept a direct commission as a major by enlisting as a private in Los Angeles. On Oct. 28, after completing the air corps OCS at Miami. Fla., he was commissioned second lieutenant. He served at Tyndall Field, Fla., for a while, and later was shipped to a mid-West field. He came to England about seven weeks ago, has been on one raid, (Antwerp, May 4) and his job here is to make a training film for aerial gunners. He is 42 years old, six feet one inch tall, his hair is grey. He seems like an OK guy. With the possible exception of the German Army, no one is having a tougher time trying to fight this war than Capt. Clark Gable. They Want to Know A few hundred thousand relatives of privates in the infantry who have been fighting in North Africa want to know why Clark Gable isn't a private in the infantry fighting in North Africa. The fathers and mothers, sisters and friends of the staff sergeants on combat crews of B17s and B24s want to know why he is a captain instead of a staff sergeant. And some of the boys wonder. He is not a captain doing a staff sergeant's job. He is a captain doing a job that has been done by majors and better, and he went from a second lieutenant to a captain in less than six months, not because he had a direct pipeline to the commanding general, but ...

Emulating old film stock

In this experiment, I've attached a jag35 35mm adapter to a canon vixia hv30. Shot in 30p. Normally I run the vibrating unit on the jag35 but tried something different this time - I didn't turn it on! I also usually use a canon 50mm lens with f/1.4 rather than what I used here, a sigma 24mm f/2.8. The difference is enormous. Looks way dirty. I must've done something wrong because there was some interlacing on a few frames, which doesn't make sense because I didn't shoot in 60i. Maybe it was the importing In addition, I've added nothing to this footage other than the matte to give it that "letterbox look". I'd say the biggest giveaway that this is definitely digital and not film is the whites are a little too sensitive and lack definition. I suppose on lo-fi film cameras this might happen too.

"Choices" Part One, "Blessed Virgin Mary" Film stock test

Music by Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff. Starring Camilla Stenmark. A Film by Lukas Lukasik. In this interpretation of Virgin Mary's life and Nietzche's view of Christianity, visuals become the king of kings. The film explores the strongest three metamorphoses never mentioned about Madonna, who is just about to give birth to the son of God. In her God-like eyes, one sees the mother of all arts, the holy spirit, which seeks for revolution of time and space... only by remaining faithful to her choices. The purpose is to deface dogma which helps us realize the control mechanism in our lives. Choices.

PRESET03.CPF "AVG FILM" is designed to emulate an average film stock, best used with 24F / 25F. PRESET04.CPF "5248FILM" is supposed to emulate Kodak 5248 film stock, best used with 24F / 25F. PRESET05.CPF "LOWLT12" is for shooting in low light with 12db gain. PRESET06.CPF "OPTICONT" is for optimum latitude, similar to AC PREF1. PRESET07.CPF "5296FILM" should be like Kodak 5296 film stock, best used with 24F / 25F. PRESET08.CPF "TERRA1" is a soft unsharpened image, shadows retain detail without looking washed out. PRESET09.CPF "TERRA2" is like TERRA1 but sharper, with coring turned down to keep noise levels at bay. PRESET10.CPF "DISJECTA" most resembles the colors Steven Dempsey used with his Panasonic DVX100. PRESET11.CPF "B&WJECTA" is B&W with detail in darks without blowing out lights, no diagonal stair-stepping. PRESET12.CPF "NOMAGENT" negates the Magenta bias that some Canon owners detect in factory settings. PRESET13.CPF "OUTSIDEN" gives the Canon a neutral image outdoors while managing bright whites. PRESET14.CPF "OLEGWARM" is warm and saturated and film-like when combined with Skin Detail: Middle. PRESET15.CPF "DVXMATCH" closely matches the Panasonic DVX100 at WB of 3200K; also try Knee: Auto. The Church - B&W Reversal

This was the first time I shot on film and used an Arri-s. The editing was done via good ol' splicing. I could fix it up with FCP but I don't want to take away from the manual aspects of this film. The quality has also been compromised in order to upload. I figured it might serve as an example for people looking to use this film stock. This is the sans-sound version. The assignment: -explore a space/location -only use static shots -allowed one camera move -no people Film Stock: Kodak Tri-X Reversal Film 7266 Kodak Plus-X Reversal Film 7265 Camera: Arri-S

JUST DESERTER - WW2 short film

This is a short film shot on 16mm. It takes place in 1945 around the real life bombing of London near the end of WWII. It's more of a love story than a war film, but the slow pace really pays off in the climax. All wardrobe and props are actual WWII items, which coupled with the grainy film stock helps this film feel very vintage and authentic. It was shot with an ARRI BL16 camera in one weekend on a budget of $1000 for wardrobe, film stock and processing fees. check here for a better quality version: vimeo.com

Kurt Kren - Asyl 31/75

"The structural films of the Austrian avant-garde filmmaker Kurt Kren are each based around a single technical conceit to which the film rigidly coheres, and around which it is structured. For Kren and the structuralists he inspired, the technical craft of cinema is in fact the whole of the cinema, and the themes and ideas in his films arise directly and solely from the methods of their contruction. Asyl is one of Kren's most formally ambitious works, an experiment in time lapse photography, multiple exposures, and segmented images. When he moved to a home in the country, Kren set up a static camera nearby, and over the course of 21 non-consecutive days, he fed the same strip of film stock through the camera once per day. In front of the lens, Kren also placed a masking board with holes in it, the placement of which was varied daily so that each time the film stock went through the camera, different areas of the image were exposed. The result is a film in which, within a single frame, time and space are made to overlap and coexist in unusual ways, creating impossible landscapes composed from footage shot on different days throughout the year. Sometimes, most of the film is exposed and the image becomes a collaged landscape, in which a snowbank runs directly into a grassy springtime meadow, or in which rain falls through the top half of the frame only to disappear when in reaches the bright sunshine of the lower half. At other times, the image is more pointillist, with ...

The Run

This is a action/comedy short film that I wrote, directed, produced, shot and edited called "The Run". "The Run" screened at 25 major film festivals around the world including the 2007 Venice International Film Festival, The Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, Fantastic Fest, The Rhode Island International Film Festival, The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, The Chicago International Children's Film Festival, The Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival and The Oldenburg Film Festival. It was shot on 35mm Kodak Vision2 500T 5218 film stock and edited on final cut pro. The titles were made using Live Type. I shot the film on a 35mm Arri IIC camera. It was filmed on location at Cal State Long Beach. The visual look was accomplished by shooting Tungsten balanced film stock with daylight and not using an 85 color correction filter on the camera. In the color grade suite, I brought up the contrast and the blues. You can rate "The Run" at its imdb page here: www.us.imdb.com Thanks for taking a look.

This is a compilation of stuff that I shot on 16mm film. The first two little skits were shot back in 1999 in a film class that I was taking. They were shot with a Bolex camera and Tri-X film stock. The middle portion stuff with the dogs was shot about 2 years ago with a Krasnogorsk-3 camera and Plus-X stock. The color stuff at the end was also shot 2 years ago with a K-3 camera. The film stock was Ektachrome 100D. All footage was transfered to minidv at Debenham Media Group in Pennsylvania.
