Fun with Magic Milk and Food Coloring! (Home Experiment)

Today we have a fun home experiment you can try at home with the kids and family. Especially kids, they love this kind of stuff. In our little home/science experiment we will show you how to make awesome color changing explosions by mixing milk, food coloring, and soap so check out the video and follow along at home! Materials Needed: -Milk (Percentage doesn't matter) -Dish washing soap (EX-Dawn, Palmolive) -Food coloring -Q-tips -Recessed plate or bowl -Napkins because it can get messy ;-) Instruction: 1. Pour milk into bowl until bottom is covered 2. Slowly add in food coloring to the center of the bowl(try not to mix colors) 3. Add soap to the end of Q-Tip 4. Insert Q-Tip tip into the center without moving it around 5. After a few seconds remove the Q-tip and enjoy the show of colorful fireworks exploding everywhere in the milk How it works: Well fat has minerals, vitamins, proteins, and tiny drops of suspended fat in it aside from water. Fats and proteins are sensitive to their surroundings and when you add in soap the weak chemical balance that proteins and fats have is changed. Then its a colorful molecules free for all. With soap forming clusters that distribute the fat in the milk everywhere. Another possible reason is that milk is mostly water and has almost the same surface tension. Food coloring drops stay on the top without moving but when you add soap, it destroys the surface tension. By breaking bonds between the water and sending colors flying everywhere ...

Dyeing Yarn with Food Coloring on the Stove

In partnership with AllFreeKnitting.com and http I am pleased to present this video about how to dye wool yarn with food coloring and vinegar in the comfort of your own kitchen. It is possible to dye wool/acrylic blends with this method, but you need to have some animal fibers for the color to take. The method illustrated in this video is pot dyeing, a way to get a single color out of your hand dyed yarn. The dyebath contains multiple drops of blue dye because I wanted to create a deep, saturated blue color. Dying to Spin #1, Locks Dyed with Food Color

Locks of wool carefully placed in a pyrex pan are soaked in vinegar water and then food color is applied straight from the squeeze bottle. When microwaved to set the color the fiber is perfect for flick carding and spinning. While I have used food color from a squirt bottle you can use paste colors or even chemical dyes to do the same thing, but if using chemical dyes you must take proper precautions.

Can Food Coloring Affect Perception of Taste? [ABC: 5-17-2011]

Get the word out on this video. - Tuesday May 17 2011 10:10 am en.wikipedia.org Food coloring is any substance, liquid or powder, that is added to food or drink to change its color. Food coloring is used both in commercial food production and in domestic cooking. Due to its safety and general availability, food coloring is also used in a variety of non-food applications, for example in home craft projects and educational settings. People associate certain colors with certain flavors, and the color of food can influence the perceived flavor in anything from candy to wine. For this reason, food manufacturers add dyes to their products. Sometimes the aim is to simulate a color that is perceived by the consumer as natural, such as adding red coloring to glacé cherries (which would otherwise be beige), but sometimes it is for effect, like the green ketchup that Heinz launched in 2000. While most consumers are aware that food with bright or unnatural colors (such as the green ketchup mentioned above, or children's cereals such as Froot Loops) likely contain food coloring, far fewer people know that seemingly 'natural' foods such as oranges and salmon are sometimes also dyed to mask natural variations in color. Color variation in foods throughout the seasons and the effects of processing and storage often make color addition commercially advantageous to maintain ...

Milk and Food Coloring Experiment - Magic Soap Science Experiment!

Using milk and food coloring and soap, Steve has far too much fun with this popular kids science experiment! Watch as the soap hits the milk and food coloring and it explodes into swirling, living colors! As Geoff mans the camera, he injects a couple of "useful" comments. One. One useful comment. Like he's suddenly an expert on the milk and food coloring experiment after I showed it to him for the first time! Maybe he's just a quick study. Okay, I'll give him that. With Easter just around the corner, you may have some extra food coloring and milk lying around. It's the perfect time to do your own "Magic Milk and Food Coloring" experiment! Then post it as a video reply to this one and we'll have some real colorful fun! I hope you enjoyed watching our safe kids science experiment as much as we enjoyed making it. We'll be posting more home science experiments soon, but most of those will involve fire, but no milk and food coloring. Unless it burns.

Fun with Science: Milk, Food Coloring and Dish Soap

I was told to use skim milk, that whole milk wouldn't work, but then I read that the higher the fat content, the better. So I don't know, now. Skim worked fine, but maybe we'll try half and half or something the next time. Warning! Science content: The soap reduces the surface tension of the milk by dissolving the fat in the milk, allowing the food coloring to sink into the milk, but then rising again in a different part of the milk.

DIY:Lip Stain with Food Coloring

This is a simple tutorial for lipstain that is quick and easy to make. (: Vaseline is best, but I didn't have any on hand atm. Basically, anything with with a decent amount of petroleum jelly should do. For the food coloring, darker shades don't come out as dark as the color you created. You'll have to adjust the amount of coloring you use depending on how strong the coloring is. The coloring I used was some coloring from Thailand, so it's really strong. For an optional scent, I used vanilla, but you can use things such as cocoa, lavender, lemon, and other different extracts The color looks bright, but it's pretty subtle if you only use a small dab. If you use a lot, it'll be very bright. The song is Hello,Goodbye by Glee Cast.
