Campaign 2012: Foreign Aid

Whoever is in the White House in 2013 will have to retain the relevancy of US foreign aid programs in an environment where the role of official foreign assistance from governments has dramatically reduced, says Isobel Coleman, director of CFR's Civil Societies, Markets, and Democracy Initiative. The next administration will likely continue to shift aid resources away from Iraq and Afghanistan, and away from middle-income countries towards poorer countries, Coleman says. The United States will also seek opportunities to collaborate with the private sector and other countries' foreign aid programs to maximize the impact of foreign assistance efforts, she says. This video is part of Campaign 2012, a series of video briefings on the top foreign policy issues debated in the run-up to the 2012 elections: www.youtube.com www.cfr.org

Afghans question efficiency of foreign aid

Millions of Afghans live in acute poverty despite foreign aid coming into the country. Education has been one of the priorities for the international community, but as with many aid programmes, there is a disconnect between what the donors offer and what Afghans need. With half of the schools lacking actual buildings, many of the country's children have to study outside. Al Jazeera's Jennifer Glasse reports from Kabul, where an Afghan version of the American Sesame Street show is set up to help children learn.

Politics of foreign aid-A Simple Question-01-09-2012

www.presstv.ir Western countries have long been responsible for financially assisting less wealthy nations under the title of development. But is foreign aid really just a tool for continued imperialism towards developing nations? Is it a strategy for keeping one foot in the door and the other safely outside? And what does this mean for the West, given the severe economic circumstance? In this edition of the show we will ask whether there are any strings attached to donating money to other nations.

DONOR OPIUM, the impact of international aid to Palestine

For twenty years now the international donor community has financially supported Palestinian institution-building, infrastructure development, the economy, public employees' salaries, health and education, social welfare, the police, electricity production, private credit guarantees, and the bigger part of the civil society organizations with regards to democracy promotion, human rights, tolerance, women rights etc. Peace and the establishment of a Palestinian state have been the declared goals of all the support. But actual results are the fragmentation and pacification of the Palestinian people. This documentary film, directed by Mariam Shahin and George Azar, and funded by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, features Palestinian criticism of this externally funded "development".

CNN Debate Las Vegas Ron Paul on Israel & foreign aid

Note: My comment on my ex wife and child support....I responsibly pay my child support consistently. My point was that having such programs provide ease of irresponsibility. Granted, you'd think that the government wouldn't allow a drug addicted mother to have custody over a drug free father, but that's our 'wonderful' system. So, did it HELP anyone be responsible? No. It helped the person receiving the money to reason with themselves in favor of being irresponsible. Remember: the lord helps those that help themselves. This is Israel we're talking about. (BTW: I'm agnostic, but I know that scriptures are helpful for many faithful to understand very reasonable morality issues). FAIR USE NOTICE: This video may contain copyrighted material. US Foreign Aid: Setting the Record Straight

This week, the buzz in Washington, DC and around the country is all about the federal budget and the possibility of a government shutdown. Some members of Congress are calling for drastic cuts to foreign aid -- as high as $800 million to HIV/AIDS programs worldwide. If approved, the impact of these cuts would be devastating for millions of children and women living with HIV around the world. Recent studies have shown that Americans have many misconceptions about how much the federal government actually spends on these programs -- so we decided to set the record straight. Take a look at this short video to find out the myth versus the reality. You might be surprised. And please click the link at the end of the video, to show your support for global HIV/AIDS programs.
