Forensics Uses of DNA

The availability of DNA evidence has revolutionised forensic work. Many countries, particularly the UK, have established large databases of DNA samples. This 5 minute video looks at a fictional murder in Leicester and reflects on some of the ethical arguments for and against the use of DNA evidence in such cases. It includes an interview with Prof Sir Alec Jeffreys, inventor of the original method for DNA fingerprinting. The video was produced as an assessment task by second year undergraduates on the Medical Biochemistry programme at the University of Leicester. Production credits: Balraj Jagdev (Director and Producer), Arnold Tang, Tami Haq, Hannah Elam and Paul Oseghale.
