Apple WWDC 2011 Scott Forstall Presentation on iOS 5 6/6/2011

Go to www.technomicon.com for our complete WWDC article. This is Scott's discussion of upcoming features in iOS 5.0. Push notifications will be much improved with a notification center that allows accessing notifications at any time. Also, in keeping with Apple's iCloud service, iOS devices can now operate "PC Free" requiring no host computer (PC or Mac) to initiate service, back up iTunes purchases, or receive iOS updates. For many people, iPad or iPhone will be the only computer they need. Not making the top ten, but high on my personal list is Airplay video mirroring, something I've been predicting for some time.

iPhone4S Special Event 10/4/11 - Scott Forstall Demos Siri Voice Recognition

Go to www.technomicon.com for our complete iPhone 4S article. Although the tech media have bemoaned this event for presenting nothing revolutionary (or magical), in fact they witnessed some genuinely revolutionary technology without even noticing. At the end of Phil Schiller's presentation he announced Siri voice recognition on the iPhone 4S, then brought Scott Forstall back for a demo. Siri goes way beyond voice recognition. It's actually powerful AI that analyzes context to produce reasonable responses. Siri actually provides a persuasive justification for the cloud, since the AI processing is done at the cloud level. Siri is scary cool! Hopefully, Apple won't let Siri play any war games. . .

iPhone 4S Special Event 10/4/11 - Scott Forstall Describes iOS 5

Go to www.technomicon.com for our complete iPhone 4S article. This is mostly a shortened version of what Scott presented at the 2011 WWDC, but it makes a nice summary of the new features of iOS 5 if you didn't happen to catch our WWDC video. iOS 5 features iCloud and Siri voice recognition integration, improved push notifications, and Airplay video mirroring, which will be available for iPhone 4S video gaming. This should allow using the iPhone 4S as a controller while watching the game on an HD TV in 720p video. We definitely will want to check out this feature to see how well it works.
