Higher quality video/audio at: freymanart.com I made this animation as an exercise in using the "Wire Parameter" feature of 3DS. There is only one gear that has keyframes - it's the red one in the center of the planetary gears. This gear drives the rest. I used "Wire Parameters" to link the four white planet gears to the red gear, then I linked small gold gears to the planet gears, the helical gears to the gold gears, and so on. It's important to keep track of the gear ratios when using "Wire Parameters" to avoid gear slippage. To make the gears, I extruded a RingWave primitive. More at freymanart.com

Hypotrochoid gear system 3 to 5 animation

Order the required two parts at: www.shapeways.com www.shapeways.com A little test animation of a hypotrochoid gear system with a 3-sided inner gear, a 5-sided outer gear and eight simple radial gears in between. The inner gear has 24 teeth and the outer gear has 40 teeth leading to a 3:5 teeth ratio. This defines the relation of the shapes of the inner and outer gears. The shape of the inner gear can be expressed by these formulas with a being the angle: x = r * sin(a) y = r * cos(a) r = 1 + cos(3 * a) / 9 The shape of the outer gear is calculated using an iterative fitting process. Even though this is just an animation, I have a physical version here printed in 3D by shapeways.

Gears Heart

I saw something like this in a clip, and i was very impressed that it can actually work. I had to do an animation. Later I found out that the name of the artist was Haruki Nakamura, and he builds something like this out of paper!!! Although it looked like carved out of wood... It was more complex than I thought to build it in 3d. I am not completely satisfied with it. More of the gears would be able to interlink, but it is a lot of fiddling around. Maybe I will do an updated version later... Audio track: "Too Quiet, -Not Enough Noise-" by soundprank ccmixter.org is licensed under a Creative Commons license: creativecommons.org

Airbus A380 Landing Gear Drop Test

Goodrich Landing Gear is a leading supplier of landing gear systems and components to original equipment manufacturers and the worlds airlines. Goodrich Landing Gear is found on leading large commercial transports worldwide. Goodrich landing gear is found on the latest aircraft to enter service such as the Airbus A380, as well as the workhorse aircraft of airline and cargo operators such as Boeing 737, 747, 767 and 777 models. Over the years, Goodrich Landing Gear has delivered more than 28000 landing gear shipsets to Boeing Commercial Aircraft, including legacy McDonnell Douglas models. This extensive experience is not only leveraged into new products and brought to bear to mature products to enhance their rugged reliability. Landing Gear Services When Airbus needed landing gear for its new A380 superjumbo airliner, they looked to Goodrich. At 18 ½ feet tall, a single A380 landing gear must support nearly 170 tons the equivalent of holding up five blue whales. The Goodrich main landing gear for the A380 is comprised of four main undercarriages two with four wheels each and two with six wheels each. Advanced materials make this huge landing gear system ruggedly reliable and remarkably lightweight. In addition to the Airbus A380 and the Boeing programs in production, the Goodrich Landing Gear team provides spares, overhaul and support to out-of-production models including older Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777, DC-9, DC-10 and MD-11 models.

Super Ultralight Backpacking Gear - Part 1

An in-depth review of the gear and equipment that makes up my system for Super Ultra Light Backpacking trips. In this 4 part video series, we take a comprehensive look at one style of lightweight backing which can reduce your overall base pack weight to less than 5 pounds. This style of hiking is technically referred to as "SUL" or "Super Ultra Lightweight Backpacking". After much time spent in the field hiking with packs weighing upward of 50lbs, the past few years have found me leaning toward a slightly more "minimalist" approach in regard to my backpacking style. This path first brought me to pack weights of about 20 pounds... ultimately arriving where I am now with a full feature pack weighing less than 5lbs. Don't get me wrong, I like gear as much as the next person. In fact, a variety of gear is not only necessary for certain outdoor pursuits, but mandatory in many instances. With that said, I have taken a serious look at what I actually "need" for certain activities, and have been adopting a "less is more" mindset. This has been a person challenge as well as a way for me to experience the outdoors in a new way... sometimes it's good to change things up a bit. Still, safety and comfort remain paramount. I am not advocating going into the wilderness under-equipped or unprepared. Significant experience in the field is essentially mandatory to find a balance of what is "luxury" and what is necessity. Sonic 2 - Game Gear - Boss Run

Altough I was planning on doing this anyway, requested by damngodsonic and Warhawk717. ... Jesus this game is hard. Sorry Jesus, it is! It suffers the same problem that Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Heroes does - obnoxious level design thats out to get you. In those games, it's masses of pits and unwieldy collision detection - in this one... it's... just mean as hell. The bosses aren't exactly pushovers either, you have a very limited time window to hit most of these. Why did I do the Game Gear version as opposed to the Master System version? I prefer the boss music... that and it makes the bosses harder, unlike Sonic 1. There are three points in this game where you will lose lives like sand falling out of a bag with holes in: Green Hills Act 3 - thanks to many blind jumps via springs. Scrambled Egg Act 2 - because it's simply out to get you via instant death traps and "oh no I pressed the wrong direction at the wrong milisecond so I died" segments And the Final Boss -I take back what I said about the Sonic 1 8Bit final - this one's far harder! Fortunately the game is very generous on lives, I got 7 in Green Hills Act 1 alone. Despite the number of lives I lost, I stay above nine because it simply gives you so many lives! Cheers to GHZ for the boss names, and big thanks to purple_manners for the Emerald Locations. Crazy game.

WROL System: Crossdraw Vests, Pt 3

PART 3 of 3: A quality made tactical Crossdraw vest is a excellent option to carry a limited weapons loadout and associated gear. I say you should always work backwards in deciding on an appropriate Load Bearing Equipment (LBE) system; just dont buy a tactical nylon vest and try to fill it up. Always think in systems. Realistically evaluate what tactical capabilities you will need in regards to ammo, secondary armaments (handgun, knives, non-lethal options like pepper spray and Asp batons), optics, food, first aid, etc. This equipment might be essential for many defensive scenarios such as the collapse of law and order (Without the Rule of Law or WROL), US military combat operations, and some Law Enforcement scenarios as well.. Tailoring these items to your anticipated engagement scenario will prevent excess weight carried and will improve your mobility and stamina. Dont carry more than you will need. There are indeed lots load bearing systems available now from different makers and many offer excellent versatility, toughness, and cargo capability. If you could be engaged in a knock-down-drag-out, full-on firefight in Afghanistan then there are better loadout systems than a Crossdraw vest. However either a BlackHawk or TacForce brand Crossdraw vest will suit most civilian sheepdogs and even some military or Law Enforcement users. It can be an Overt OR Covert carry system and I classify its capabilities as Medium. Its benefits are numerous: no extra pouches to buy and <b>...</b>

Metal Gear (NES) Walkthrough (Part 1)

The first video in a walkthrough requested by XanderMisfit. Metal Gear IS a revolutionary game, especially for a time where games were so simple. This is an 8-bit game after all. This statement applies to the NES version featured in this video too, although the game was originally released for the Japanese MSX computer. A statement that does apply only to the NES version is the following : Metal Gear for the NES IS a bastardized version of the original game. Yes, it's true for many reasons, many major changes made during the conversion. It is the same basic stealth/mission-centered game and the story (which is not really so big if you're accustomed to the Metal Gear Solid series) is the same, at least in the game. In the manual, Konami of America really said a lot of nonsense having nothing to do with the game, as was their habit at the time. The English translation is not just bad, it's really awful and it doesn't help an already confusing game. There are lots of secrets you have to discover for yourself, although Schneider can give you basic hints on frequency 120.79 (yeah, you could contact people even in the first game, sometimes...) The NES version doesn't even begin at the same location as the MSX version and the final Boss is not the same, at least the machine one (the human final final Boss is the same) and it's a really less interesting or sensical fight for the game. Well, since this is my video walkthrough, you don't have to care about knowing where to find <b>...</b>

MSX - Metal Gear - part 20: Final Confrontation

Oh noes!! It's Metal Gear!! Standing there, looking fearsome, doing nothing... Yeah, but it is not like you weren't warned throughout the game: your mission is to destroy Metal Gear _before_ it becomes operational. So, what is this easily impressed girl calling for then? To tell Snake her feelings? They hardly know each other! She and Mei Ling must be good friends. "No, it's nothing". PART 2 of 3: A quality made tactical Crossdraw vest is a excellent option to carry a limited weapons loadout and associated gear.

Why the Diablo 3 Auction House is a Bad System - Failure to pay the iron price!

Whether you plan on using the RMAH or the standard gold-based AH, the inherent problem with this system in a Diablo game is summarized very accurately by Balon Greyjoy. WE DO NOT SOW! To elaborate, Diablo games have always been very much treasure hunting games. Farming bosses was how you geared yourself out, and every piece of gear that you wore you could feel confident that you earned. Buying your items on the D3 AH really cheapens that experience in my opinion, and let's be frank here - the way that the item system in D3 is currently designed, buying your gear on the AH is almost a necessity.
