Neuroticooler - drivetrain and geering test

This is to become what's known as a "cooler racer", or more likely, a "cooler cruiser". The high center of gravity, the awesome grip of the tires, and incredible torque makes it feel like a wild animal that wants to throw the rider off. This is the first vehicle I've made that really scares me. Before I deliver this, I'm going to have to reprogram the controller to calm it down quite a bit. A stainless steel Coleman 54 quart cooler will eventually go where the batteries are now, and the batteries will move elsewhere. Specs: 48V, 300A system running an Alltrax AXE-4834, a permanent-magnet "Etek replacement" motor made by Mars of Milwalkee, WI, and 4 "mini" Optima Yellow top 12v batteries. Final drive ratio is low - about 4.5:1. The throttle is on the right thumb. I've fitted this one with a differential, which makes it corner and steer very nicely. Originally, it was thought that the handlebar configuration would be needed due to heavy steering effort, but that turns out not to be a problem at all because of the differential. There are dual hydraulic brake disks and calipers on the rear axle, but in Neurotikart tradition, the Neuroticooler's brakes aren't hooked up yet.

Bryan Pepperell talks about Lloyd Geering's heresy trial

Order of New Zealand recipient and New Zealand's most famous theologian Lloyd Geering is set to celebrate with colleagues, friends and interested members of the public 40 years since his landmark heresy trial began. Lloyd Geering's heresy trial is being revisited at an all-day event in Wellington on November the 3rd, 40 years to the day since the trial began. The trial of Geering who was then head of the Presbyterian Church's theological college shook New Zealand society and was widely reported internationally. It is also the subject of a forthcoming television documentary on "The Last Western Heretic". "These celebrations mark an important point in New Zealand's history," said popular television presenter and Trust member Chris Nichol who will be conducting a live interview with Geering as part of the day's events. "At the time people argued in bus stops about whether the resurrection really happened as its recorded in the Bible. That was 1967. The trial was a turning point. After the trial it seemed that people began to treat the institutional church with a great deal more caution."
