Nick Meyer On His Gene Roddenberry Regret

Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry passed away a few weeks before the release of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Following Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Roddenberry continued to consult on the Star Trek films, but was not directly involved as a producer. At the Star Trek night for the LA Times Hero Complex Film Festival on Friday June 10th, Star Trek VI director and co-writer spoke about tensions between himself and Roddenberry regarding elements of the film, especially the anti-Klingon racism displayed by Star Trek's heroic crew who Roddenberry felt should be more evolved. more at trekmovie.com

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry (with Gene)=6/3/1989 Star Trek Convention Appearance

Majel Barrett-Roddenberry and I met at the Los Angeles Star Trek Convention on 6/3/89. An engaging and entertaining lady, she was enjoying some drinks with us fans at the bar. So, I soon left the party to attend Gene Roddenberry's lecture in the main ballroom. I'd not seen him in person since his college-tours during the early 1970's. Those were lean years for Gene, his tv-pilots had never succeeded and his Star Trek series had been reduced to a saturday-morning cartoon program (before Star Trek-The Motion Picture and The Next Generation). Wanted to share this brief edit of her surprise-appearance during Gene's question-and-answer session. Many family, friends and fans will miss you, Majel.

Star Trek - Tribute to Eugene Wesley „Gene" Roddenberry (Re-up for German users)

My Tribute to Roddenberry Infos from Wikipedia: Star Trek Roddenberry developed Star Trek in 1964, developing it as a combination of the science-fiction series Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Roddenberry sold the project as a "Wagon Train to the Stars", and it was picked up by Desilu Studios. The first pilot went over its US$500000 budget and received only minor support from NBC. Nevertheless, the network commissioned an unprecedented second pilot and the series premiered on September 8, 1966 and ran for three seasons. The show began to receive low ratings, and in the final season, Roddenberry offered to demote himself to line producer in a final attempt to rescue the show by giving it a desirable time slot. The series went on to gain popularity through syndication. Gene Roddenberry (third from the right) in 1976 with most of the cast of Star Trek visiting the Space Shuttle Enterprise, at Palmdale, USA Beginning in 1975, the go-ahead was given by Paramount for Roddenberry to develop a new Star Trek television series, with many of the original cast to be included. It was originally called Phase II. This series was the anchor show of a new network (the ancestor of UPN, which later became part of The CW Television Network), but plans by Paramount for this network were scrapped and the project was reworked into a feature film. The result, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, received a lukewarm critical response, but it performed well at the box office -- it was the highest-grossing ...

Planet Earth 1974 part 1

One of Gene Roddenberry's sci fi TV projects from the 70's, about a post apocalyptic century where women are rulers and men are slaves and central California is an inland sea. A viewer commented that the exterior shots of PAX headquarters were shot at UC Irvine. A close up of a plaque above the subshuttle entrance says that the subshuttle tunnels were constructed in 1992. Coincidentally, that was when the Los Angeles Metro rail subway was being constructed.

Eugene Wesley "Gene" Roddenberry, Sr (August 19, 1921 -- October 24, 1991) was an American television screenwriter, producer and futurist, best known for creating the American science fiction series Star Trek. Born in El Paso, Texas, Roddenberry grew up in Los Angeles, California where his father worked as a police officer. Roddenberry flew 89 combat missions in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II, and worked as a commercial pilot after the war. He later followed in his father's footsteps, joining the Los Angeles Police Department to provide for his family, but began focusing on writing scripts for television.
