Without question the most scenic. It's also the main location in Oahu where Hollywood movies are filmed. Such movies as Jurassic Park, 50 First Dates, Godzilla, Wind talkers, Pearl Harbor Mighty Joe Young and even a great deal of the TV show LOST was filmed here. It' also a huge tourist attraction where, as you can see, you can horseback ride, sail boat, 4 wheel, movie bus tours, jungle expedition, boat cruise, dinner, the list goes on :) It really is honestly the most photogenic place in all of Oahu. And by the way, I'm not paid to say that :) I actually did this video for free, there was no money involved. And I did it just because I love the location. The staff at Kualoa ranch were super awesome/helpful to work with when filming this, super accommodating, and they helped with what we needed to get the shots we wanted. I would for sure reccomend this place to ANY PHOTOGRAPHER, or anyone who wants an escape from the everyday world! I really think this place is one of Hawaii's best kept secrets. Glidecam HD 1000 Setup and Test Footage. The camera is a Sony HC-9 with a wide angle lens adapter and a stereo microphone. The camera that is ON me is also an HC-9 with a wide angle lens but using a Rode shotgun mic. The footage with the Glidecam is only OK (I know) but its about getting used to shooting and is till better than with nothing. More tests soon.

We spent 10 days on Vancouver. Most of that time was spent in one of my favorite places, Barkley Sound. It's an area with 150 islands in a 5 mile radius. We canoed from one island to the next, camping on them. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II. Most of the shots were done with the Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series. A Nikon 50mm 1.8 adapter, and a Nikon 70-200 2.8 with Canon/Nikon lens adapter. The smooth shots were done with a glidecam 2000. She's also the head soccer coach at BYU Hawaii. We did all the filming on the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. On a technical side, it was all shot on the Canon 5D Mark II, and for two special shots we did those with the GoPro HD. I wanted to try and give people the "perspective" of the soccer ball, so what we did was we duck taped a GoPro HD camera to the soccer ball. I then hid behind a tree so I wasn't in the shot, and then Carolyn, the soccer girl in the video kicked the ball up as high as she could, that's how we got that shot. As far as lenses go, the only lens I used was a Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L Series lens. For the underwater shots with the ocean, I used a SPL housing specifically made for a Canon 5D Mark II. I usually film all my movies at 24fps, however with this one, I wanted to try something new/experiment with. So I filmed all the shots with Carolyn at 30fps. I then conformed them with cinematools to 24fps. By doing this it slowed down the clips just a little bit, so they are barely played in slowmotion. It gives it a slight "dream effect" because of this. With the <b>...</b>

The design and construction of glidecam or steadicam doesn't seem to be extremely complex. But for some reason they are rediculously expensive. Even a light weight glidecam 1000 could cost as much as $300. So I figured that I might be able to build one myself with some basic material I can find in Homedepot or Lowes. My goal is to build a light-weight glidecam-like instead of a steadicam Merlin-like, simply because I like the look of glidecam:) The upper part needs to be adjustable left-and-right and back-and-forth. The gimbal join should have ball bearings for all three dimensions to filter out body moves and shakiness. It should have a quick release adaptor so that I don't need to re-balance it for every use. Talking about quick release, the price of standalone quick release adaptor is just as ridiculous. A tiny small one could cost as much as $30, which is more expensive than some cheap tripod with quick release included. Somehow all these kinds of stuff are priced as professional gears. But I'm not professional. I'm just a guy who happens to have a camcorder and wants to shoot some nice home video. I've looked pretty much all DIY steadicam/glidecam designs I could find on Internet. Most of them are either too clunky or chunky (like the famous $14 steadicam. Seriously, who can hold that thing for more than 1 min?), or requires machinery that I don't have in my garage. There are also some really nice designs from which I borrowed a lot idea. So here are the materials I <b>...</b>

It's about a 25 mile hike from start to finish. To get all the shots I did, we hiked in about 50 pound packs each, with my tripod, camera lenses, and glidecam. To even camp on the trail you have to have a permit, and the waiting list is HUGE. It took my dad 4 years to finally win the lottery that allowed us to do the hike. These type of devices that fly your camera are not as easy as they look, they take practice and this is my first one so I have nothing to compare it to, so please take my review from the point of a true beginner. First off let's talk about price, the HD2000 is around $450 which kinda on the pricey side for hobbyist, however if you compare it to the Steadicam Merlin it is a steal, but on the other hand if you compare it to a Hague then it looks expensive again. I had some problems balancing my Glidecam so I contacted the manufacturer and Tom from Glidecam gave me a few pointers. They actually told me I have the wrong one for the T2i, they recommended the same one, the Glidecam HD1000 is about $100 cheaper. I am tall at 6'-3" when I try to go low to get at eye level with my girls the handle hits the bottom plate the camera sits on which ruins my low shots. I asked one of my visitors to my site Marc Wiblishauser from Vimeo what he does with his and he recommend rotating the handle, and that worked great for my low shots instead up inverting the whole unit which would time consuming. I found that flying this outside it much easier than trying this inside, the main reason is focus, you generally want most of your image to be in focus so you have to raise your F-stop to 8 or higher, and if you don't have much light inside for all the rooms you are passing through you need to up the ISO a ton. Today I took the new Glidecam HD4000 and the Sony EX1 camera for my first test run in Goodale park with my friends Jason and Michael. The Glidecam stabilization system took about 45 minutes of balancing for the 1st time, but once balanced, the results really shine through. Drawback-- it is HEAVY! Awaiting the vest connector for the future which helps carry the load.
