She was born on February 5, 1909 in Lodz. She began studying at the Warsaw conservatory in 1928, initially taking violin and piano classes and graduated in 1932. She continued the education in Paris. Most of her writings are for the violin. She died in 1969. Grazyna Bacewiczs honours included the Music Prize of the City of Warsaw (1949), the State Prizes, 3rd and 2nd Degree (1952, 1956), and the Commanders and Knights Crosses of the Order of Polonia Restituta. Among Bacewiczs early compositions for violin and piano, performed at the beginning of her career (with her brothers Witold and Kiejstut, and with Jerzy Lefeld), an important place is occupied by miniatures, which may be described as studies in the various expressive possibilities within the neo-Classical trend.
