Show Over? 'EU doomed even if Greece opts out'

Greece is edging even close to the Euro exit door - after the latest talks to form a government failed. There'll be more on Tuesday, but markets have already been dropped in reaction, while other EU nations are scrambling contingency plans. The second-largest party in Greece is the latest to refuse to join a coalition that enforces more cuts. Political economist Markus Kerber says even if Athens quits the Euro, it's still too late to save the currency. Eleftheria Eleftheriou - Aphrodisiac (Greece) 1st Rehearsal

Powered by www.eurovision.tv Impression of the first rehearsal of Eleftheria Eleftheriou. Greece will be hoping that number three will prove to be lucky, as that is the position that Eleftheria Eleftheriou will be performing in the running order, with the song Aphrodisiac. This afternoon she had her first rehearsal on stage in the Crystal Hall. Speaking shortly before her rehearsal, Elefteria admitted, "I'm very excited for this, and I can't wait to get on stage for that first rehearsal. I'm quite nervous because it is the first, and I think that everything will be all right and no technical problems. I hope everything will be ok." Eleftheria is accompanied on stage by two female and two male backing dancers, plus one female backing singer, who is standing by the microphone on the right hand side of the stage. All the group were dressed casually today in jeans and T-shirts, but there was no doubt as to which country was being represented on stage,as Eleftheria wore a beaded top with the word Greece embroidered across it. The group performed the typical Greek-style line dancing choreography as part of their routine, against a multi coloured background off various patterns, which was ever changing and included appropriately some crystal type structures. There was an effective use made of the camera that drops down from the ceiling at great speed, before it shoots back up just as quickly. The song came across very strongly vocally within the hall, and the delegation all ...

Greece on Fire: 'Disaster looms, with or without Euro'

Last week was a truly hectic one for the EU, with violent anti-austerity demos and political deadlock again casting doubts over the future of the euro. In Spain, as many as hundreds of thousands marched in nationwide protest. They chanted slogans and waved banners demanding an end to cuts and painful austerity. In Italy, violent anti-austerity clashes erupted in the city of Naples, after yet another suicide apparently caused by an aggressive government taxation program. But above all that, is the political turmoil in Greece. There, a last-ditch effort to form a coalition has all but collapsed over differences on austerity and bailout terms. The country now looks likely to stage new elections. For more on what lies ahead for Greece, and the implications for the EU, RT talks to Panagiotis Sotiris, who is a journalist and lecturer on social and political philosophy at the University of the Aegean. Goodbye Greece? 'Eurocrats want Athens out to save face'

Greece starts another day without government after wrangling politicians continue to fail to agree a coalition after last Sunday's elections. The leader of the second-largest party has refused to join any administration which pledges to stick to the country's bailout agreement with the EU and IMF.If a last-ditch attempt to form a national unity government fails, new elections will follow. Greeks are deeply divided over harsh budget cuts which came as the price of international cash injections. The EU has already warned that money will continue to flow ONLY if Athens sticks to agreed austerity measures. The German Finance Minister has said the Eurozone will deal with a Greek exit from the single currency - should it happen. Margaret Bogenrief of crisis management firm ACM Partners, says the bloc is now trying to save face as turmoil is unavoidable. Much-needed rescue cash will finally start flowing into Greek coffers later this month, as the Eurozone group clears the way for a 130-billion Euro bailout. However, the International Monetary Fund is yet to confirm its part in the deal despite Greece agreeing a bond-swap deal with private creditors. Pro-bailout parties weakened in Greece vote

Greeks have voted heavily against austerity measures in Sunday's parliamentary poll. The country's two main political parties, both backers of the eurozone's stringent bailout scheme, suffered a dramatic fall in support. With no outright majority, the next government will most likely be a coalition. Al Jazeera's Barnaby Phillips reports from Athens.

'Greece doomed, economy total farce & fiction!'

The Greek parliament has approved new harsh austerity legislature needed to secure a 130-billion-euro bailout from the EU and the IMF in efforts to avoid devastating default. This comes amid violent riots against the vote in Athens. The lawmakers voted early Monday in favor of the bill that will cut 15000 public-sector jobs and lower the minimum wage by 20 per cent. 'Eurocratic fantasies push Greece to agony'

More than ten thousand Greeks surrounded the Parliament on Tuesday - clashing with police while protesting the latest reforms. Many see their livelihoods, and the country, being 'sold out' with little benefit for them. Parliamentary opposition is also strong, with deputies wary of more cuts and tax hikes expected to accompany the deal. Greece has until March to secure financing, or face default. According to Investment advisor Patrick Young, the EU's hopes of a positive outcome are fading fast. RT on Twitter twitter.com RT on Facebook www.facebook.com

What happens if Greece leaves the euro?

Greek leaders have been struggling to form a new coalition for the past eight days, but with little success. A failure to form a government would mean Greeks would have to vote again in less than two months. Opinion polls show the anti-austerity Radical Left party, known as Syriza, leading the polls, and if they win the country could be pushed out of the eurozone. Al Jazeera's Nadim Baba takes a look at what that would mean.

Life or Debt: 'Greece must escape bailout prison'

The Greek Parliament is set to approve the country's new international bailout deal later today as more protests, against austerity measures in return for rescue funds, are planned. Athens received a second bailout this year. Combined with its first rescue package, the country stands to receive over 172 billion euros in loans from eurozone countries and the IMF. But Greece's creditors claim the country's most recent austerity measures could be 'accident prone'. Experts say the country may fail to lower its debt burden to the specified targets, later requiring more rescue loans. Greece is in its fifth year of recession, and many believe it needs to recover before debt reduction plans can have much effect. Breaking news on the Greece financial crisis! Check out this video too - www.youtube.com Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos told members of his government they must back deeper budget cuts needed to prevent financial collapse or quit, as political dissension threatened to unwind the country's second bailout. Papademos said failure to secure the 130 billion-euro ($171 billion) rescue package that's under negotiation threatened 11 million Greeks with a default that would halt the payment of wages and pensions and shut down schools, hospitals and businesses. He spoke after five ministers resigned in two hours and protesters clashed with police in Athens. "Some say default would be preferable," Papademos told a Cabinet meeting in Athens this evening, according to an e-mailed transcript from his office. "They are woefully mistaken. What is of the essence right now is to do whatever we can to approve the new plan and let the loan accord proceed." Concerns the bailout might unravel mounted after euro-area finance ministers yesterday kept back approval of Greece's austerity measures, one of the Greek governing coalition parties pushed back against German demands for deeper cuts, and police used tear gas to counter demonstrators in the capital. Papademos met his ministers to discuss the bill detailing the measures, amounting to 7 percent of gross domestic product to 2014, which will be put to a parliamentary vote this weekend.
