Territorial disputes continued until the Peace of Melno was concluded in 1422. However, the Teutonic Knights never recovered their former power and the financial burden of war reparations caused internal conflicts and an economic downturn in their lands. The battle shifted the balance of power in Eastern Europe and marked the rise of the Polish--Lithuanian union as the dominant political and military force in the region. The Battle of Grunwald, fought on July 15th, 1410, has a kind of mythical status in the history of not only Poland, but Lithuania and Germany. Called the Battle of Tannenberg by the Germans and the Battle of Zalgiris by the Lithuanians, this clash was decisive moment in the history of the Eastern Europe. The origins of the battle start with the emergence of the Teutonic Knights, a military order made up predominantly of Germans. Although they began in the Holy Land, the order's activities soon focused on the Baltic region, where they fought crusades against pagan peoples. Throughout the 13th century they fought bitterly against the Lithuanians. The marriage between the Polish queen Jadwiga and the Lithuanian king Jagiello in 1386 created a Polish-Lithuanian Union , and brought about the conversion of the Lithuanians to Christianity. But the Teutonic Order refused to accept the conversion of the Lithuanians and continued the wars....

The project itself is an idea of Wojtek Franus, who managed to popularise it over the internet (www.videodslr.pl) so well, that on the 15th day of July 2010 five men armed with HDSLR cameras decided to give shooting medieval battles a try. Three days later, after a long battle with heat, dust, lack of running water and limited access to the most interesting "shots", we went home, each carrying 150 GB of footage. Here's the Historical Battle of Tannenberg aka Grunwald 1410, to be honest i hate playing against the Teutonic Order or the Holy Roman Empire but since i'm playing & posting all Historical battles of M2TW i decided to also play it & post it, anyway i got nothing against the Polish so it was quite fun playing it although its the 1st time i did. In Command of the Teutonic Order was the Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen † who died from a Polish spear as the Teutons were defeated by the allied forces of the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Principality of Moldova, Tartars & some Russians all under the Command of Polish King Władysław II Jagiełło. Although its the 1st time i played this battle most of it went like the real one like when i lured their left flank cavalry with my Tartars & Lithuanian horse archers & as i advanced i flanked them with 2 units of cavalry on their weakened left flank, i got behind their line, took out their cannons & trapped Jungingen. By the time my horse archers had defeated their lured cavalry & came back the Teutons were getting routed, then Jungingen fell & evryone left went in flight. During the advance at the beginning at one point i got a bit confused with my left flank cavalry but then i quickly split it, 2 units attack their right flank & 2 units get around their weakened left flank followed by King Władysław's bodyguard as my infantry charged theirs. Although the Teutonic Order in this battle was outnumbered they had <b>...</b>

Poland -- the anniversary of the great battle In July the countries of Middle and Eastern Europe are celebrating the 600th anniversary of the battle of Grunwald (sometimes called the 1st battle of Tannenberg), which for several centuries had shaped the history of the region. The reconstruction of the battle will attract 200 thousands spectators from all over the world. On the 15th of July 1410 the largest battle of medieval Europe took place in the plains near Grunwald in the North of Poland. Among the nearly 60 thousand people fought guests from many countries invited by the Teutonic Order: the Germans, knights from contemporary Latvia and Estonia, Austrians, Swiss, Dutch, English and French. The Polish-Lithuanian kingdom opposed them with their own inhabitants which were Polish, Lithuanians and Russians, but also with their allies: Tatars, Moldovans and Czechs. The military campaign of the 1410 was a technological breakthrough, involving both western and eastern tactics. The Poles were the first in Europe to use the pontoon bridge for military purposes. The big celebration of the anniversary is prepared mainly by Poles and Lithuanians. In July several museums will be opened and many monuments commemorating the victory of the Polish king Jogaila, the Grand Duke of Lithuania and other famous knights will be unveiled.
