Finishing just one place out of a podium spot in the hotly contested GT Class, Team Falken's Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, piloted by Porsche Works and team driver Wolf Henzler, and his partner, team driver Bryan Sellers, ran strong all afternoon on the challenging streets of Long Beach, and ended up 4th out of 14 GT entrants during the annual visit by the American LeMans Series to the Long Beach Grand Prix, one of the most prestigious street races in the world, now in its 37th year.

The AMS Alpha 9 GT-R made its way to Buttonwillow Raceway this fall for the 2010 Super Lap Battle Finals street class competition via a 2000+ mile cross country trek with the guys of Nagtroc.org. They documented their adventure and reviewed the car over the course of their journey from the AMS facility in West Chicago, IL. The goal? To showcase the powerful yet reliable performance of the AMS Alpha 9 Package just prior to competition and its top speed capabilities after such a grueling trip. The Alpha 9 GT-R was subjected to more than just the lead foot of its reviewers: extreme temperatures, severe weather and elevation all made for a challenging journey. This included heavy Midwest rains, snow and icy condition in the Rockies and, after a stop in Las Vegas for SEMA, the extreme dry heat of the Southwest desert. After arriving in Buttonwillow, and with a quick adjustment in suspension setup, the GT-R competed in the SLB Finals street class without a hitch, placing 2nd just behind the AMS EVO X, with a time of 1:55.99. This was the first time on the track for the Alpha 9 GT-R and with over 800 horsepower it proved to be quite a handful. Martin Musial, President of AMS and driver in the SLB Finals, plans to have all the kinks worked out well in advance of next year's event to beat the EVO X and top the SLB track record in the street class division.

The Porsche 911 GT3 was introduced in 1999 as a high performance version of the first water-cooled version of the Porsche 911, the 996, to continue the quarter-century tradition of low-weight RS (short for "Rennsport" in German) models that ended with the 993 RS. The GT3, named after the FIA GT class it was intended for, did not use the rather simple engine of the regular production versions of the 996, but a naturally-aspirated version of the turbocharged Porsche 962 and Porsche 911 GT1 race cars. Later, the turbo-charged Porsche 911 GT2 was added to the maker's lineup, but unlike its predecessor 993 GT2, did not fit into GT racing regulations. Team Falken Tire survived the storm that hit Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course 30 minutes before the finish and took top honors in GT class for the first time in the performance tire manufacturer's three-year ALMS career. Derrick Walker, Falken's ALMS Team Manager, made the comment after previously expressing confidence in Falken's capability at Mid-Ohio, a track he knows very well from years of competing as a manager and owner of IndyCar teams. Credit also went to Falken's two team drivers, Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler, and his partner, Bryan Sellers, who persevered through the race on a track notoriously tough on tires. Sellers qualified 9th and expressed disappointment with the position, considering Falken has finished in fifth place the last two races. However, Sellers started the race and started moving forward until he was hit from behind by the #04 Ford GT, which dropped the Porsche to 12th. The veteran driver fought hard and turned the car over to his teammate in 10th. Henzler entered the race and gradually moved to 7th place in GT, remaining there for a good portion of the race.
