The wildlife affected by the Gulf Coast oil spill disaster are in dire need. An estimated 47 million gallons of oil has spewed into the Gulf of Mexico from a British Petroleum oil well damaged during a platform explosion on April 20. The oil has spread across the ocean and onto shorelines along the US where it's wreaking havoc with marine and wildlife populations. Pelicans struggle to free themselves from oil that's thick as tar. Dead birds, sea turtles and dolphins wash ashore. The number of dead and injured birds and marine wildlife continues to climb. The oil spill will have both short- and long-term consequences. On Saturday August 7, 2010 four Jet skis and 7 anglers head out of Freeport/Quintana jetties. We headed south west near "East Bank", there was a thick line of seaweed that looked like it ranged a mile or more down. So we all decided to drift this area, with in the first 30 mins Toefu and this friend Paul on their Jet ski (Seadoo), radio in on their first king fish bite, soon after myself and Hung on his new 2010 Jet ski (Yamaha), get a hard run, and pulled up another king fish, Toefu and his buddy heard all the commotion and decided to move in close to us, then about a few mins of them drifting I hear Toefu screaming and hollering, then I see it, the sail fish jumped clear out of the ocean and it must have been 5 feet in the air! At first we did not believe that it was a sail fish but it was confirmed on the radio. During this time myself and Hung's reels start screaming Hung's line was totally cut off, then I pulled mine up and the Ribbon fish's head was the only thing hanging on the hook, we just lost 2 kings! .....
