
Gyaru, the tokyo fashion look, style and mentality. I'm very much into the gyaru (ギャル) and gyaro culture of Japan, and especially Tokyo, but sadly when I was there I always had a very hard time actually meeting any of them. They usually hung out in cliques, and they didn't seem to go to bars where you could really talk to them, but instead usually went to Izakayas (not really a meeting people kinda place). So how in the world should I meet them? Did I have to actually walk up to them on the street to stand a chance? I was also told by many others that this particular group of girls were really not into foreigners at all, so that might make it even more difficult to meet them! Luckily, I recently found Akumax90 here on youtube. He's a dutch dude, doing videos solely on gyaru and gyaruo culture and themes. I've taken this chance to ask him about how he went about meeting gyaru while in Tokyo, and give his thoughts on the matter.
