In this video I'll show you how easy the H4N recorder works. I've shot this video so you'll be able to hear (and judge?) the sound quality of the H4N. I recorded: - At the beach (with standard wind cap) - Strumming some strings on the guitar - Lighting a candle - Playing the flute - Playing the trumpet All recorded in stereo mode with the two built-in microphones. No additional settings. In my opinion the sound quality is pretty great. The wind cap works OK, but recording at the beach is a bit too much to ask. You will have to buy a better one. The H4N will be ideal for: - Live performance recording - Field sound recording - Recording a business meeting

The H1 is a nice little unit, but its missing some of the key features of the H4n including XLR inputs, rotating on board microphones, and computer audio interface. For the price the zoom h1 sound very good, plus its light weight and has long battery life. For the price i think its a good buy. My week old pretty snugly fitting Quicksilver hat now lives in the Pacific ocean. This video actually impressed me as I didn't know how it was going to turn out, ( headphones were left at home ). You will notice a couple of sharp gusts getting through to the Zoom's sensitive mics. ( it was DAMN windy ) The only sound editing done was the fading in of the real audio track by the artist "Koop - come to me".. I played with the color of the image a bit, just a little channel mixing to taste. I think this is the first video that I actually used a Canon lens. I lit it with a giant 85watt florescent light bulb by EiKO, I love this thing, draws 85watts and puts out 350ish equiv to regular incandescent bulbs. Anyways, hope you all enjoy the vid ! Camera : Canon 5D Mark II Lens : Canon 85mm the non "L" version Audio : Zoom H4n Windscreen : RedHead Song - Koop "Come to Me" Light : EiKO 85watt monster bulb Portable Power : Inovatronix Explorer ( for studio strobes ), not sufficient for constant lighting, it only lasted for about 20min before being totally dead. Furthermore, I wouldn't really recommend this product to still photographers for powering studio strobes. Mine have been so unreliable and for the most part a headache. Instead go with a Vagabon by Paul C. Buff. Different topic altogether...

I did a quick test using the Zoom H4n, Olympus LS-11 and the on-board mics of the Panasonic HMC150. I started with the internal mics of all three units then plugged a cheap mic into the Ext Mic input of the Zoom and the Olympus and the final test was using a Audio Technica AT875R plugged into the XLR inputs of the Zoom. No audio enhancements were made except leveling. The Zoom H4n was purchased to be used as a field recorder with the use of the AT875R on a boom pole. The Audio Technica AT875R mic was purchased to be used either as my on-board mic for the HMC150 for "run & gun" videography or as a remote boom mic for interviews. I use the Olympus LS-11 as a ambient recorder or attach a lapel mic for interviews. I found, just like a lot of people, that the internal mics on the Panasonic HMC150 are pretty worthless and should only be used for syncing up audio in post editing!

Before I used a preamp xlr device if i needed independent audio level controls. Now i can use that xlr preamp alone with the the zooms xlr inputs to record 4 channels at a time and still have control of audio levels. If you have a zoom h4n this is a great update!

It's available on ebay for $14.99, heres the link: cgi.ebay.com The Case is very Sold and seems well made. Plus its the only one i could find that was small enough to fit in my back pack. TURN UP YOUR SUBS/BASS!!! quick test using my new ZOOM H4n sound recorder, jake pelzl jamming on some drums. I put the device a few feet infront of the drum set. mics turned to 120* for wider stereo effect. I can spend all day here, hiking and exploring the many falls that make up this gorgeous jungle landscape.. As a kid I remember sitting atop the last waterfall in this clip with four of my friends.. we were all about ten yrs old and this would be the first time we ever jumped off "caveman".. We sat up there for what seemed like an eternity debating every possible reason we should or shouldn't jump.. Finally in a 4 way debate on of us yelled out.. " If we don't do it now, we're never gonna do it ! " Our redheaded friend Clayton respond's with one line and I'll never forget it.. "ain't that the truth", then proceeds to leap off the 50ft waterfall.. The feeling of jumping of this thing at 10yrs of age was the most exhilarating thing I can remember as a kid.. Today we see how the Zoom H4n compares against the Olympus LS-10. These two audio recorders both record at similar bit rates but have very different microphones and mic configurations. I test both units mounted on top of my camera (Canon 5D Mark II) and I also test both units using a Audio Technica ATR 3350 lavalier mic. This is just an unboxing video of a Zoom H4n. Most people don't realise you get a 1gb SD Card with it, and also most do not kno that you can get it much cheaper on ebay than most stores. If you are in the UK or Ireland and you order one from the US, you may get charged extra duty when it arrives in your country. I didn't, but it's not a guarantee. The Zoom H4n is capable of very high quality stereo recording. (up to 24-bit/96kHz) This version came with Cubase LE5 which works on Win XP/Vista/7 or Mac OSX 10.5/10.6 I'll try to get a sound comparison done in the next few days.
