"Hamlet" MOTIFS -- William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" ... from 60second Recap®

[ www.60secondHamlet.com ] Leave it to Shakespeare to write a play about ears. They're everywhere in "Hamlet." Hamlet's father is killed when Claudius pours poison in his ears. (Disgusting.) And the other characters in "Hamlet" can't stop talking about ears (or hearing) either. (Weird.) But listen up, because Shakespeare has a point to make. You'll find out just what that is when you watch this 60second Recap®.

1 The Hamlet Enigma: Introduction

For over four hundred years The Tragedy of Hamlet Prince of Denmark has exceptionally captivated the interest of the world. Since its conception on the global stage this play has been the subject of interpretation and analysis by a multitude of prominent thinkers. Some of the most notable elucidation of this play were made by Hugo, Hegel, Nietzsche, Freud, Jung, Elliot, Vygotsky, Turgenev, Lewis, Asimov, Russell, Ecco, Joyce and Bloom just to name a few. Although their methods and approaches widely differ, the only consistent conclusion is that Hamlet is "a mystery," "a riddle," "a puzzle," "an enigma". Over a decade ago I noticed some general similarities in the use of symbolism between Shakespeare's Hamlet and Plato's Phaedo. Upon further comparison I realized that the relationship between these two texts was uncanny. A close examination revealed a remarkably intricate (and thereby intended) line-to-line relationship between the two texts, which has surprisingly gone unnoticed during the past four centuries of unprecedented scrutiny. I propose that the dialogue of Phaedo is the intended "key" to unlocking the mystery of Hamlet. This series of videos will present evidence which unequivocally proves that a line-to-line comparison of the two texts results in the solution to The Hamlet Enigma; and will reveal a unique insight into Shakespeare's philosophic method. Furthermore a specific motive for this unusual methodology will be proposed, that hidden within this, most ...

Shakespeare's King Lear Analysis - Stoicism and Motives (Cordelia & Lear)

In this video I analyze King Lear, especially focusing on the influence of stoicism in the play, and the characters motives and flaws. My purpose above all is to understand Shakespeare's worldview, and contemplate what is redeeming about life in the midst of all the crap that happens--I do not think his worldview is as dark as it might seem. More videos are coming soon, along with videos on his other plays, especially Hamlet. I'd love to hear your comments or suggestions! The essay I quoted is found here: www.shu.ac.uk Full text of my analysis on my blog (coming in a day or so!): thehumanfiction.wordpress.com All images and audio I used were from the public domain!

Analyzing All of Hamlet in Eight and a Half Minutes

In which Caety explains why she loves Hamlet so much. She gets into the plot a little bit, but she mainly talks about all the unanswered questions in the play that make it so interesting. This video isn't meant to be something you should watch instead of reading Hamlet; it's meant to be something you should watch to help you understand and appreciate Hamlet after you have read it. Caety isn't pretending that she's an expert here, but she has seen Hamlet performed a ton, has read it three times, and has analyzed it in classes twice, so she's fairly confident that she knows what she's talking about. "To Be, or Not to Be" in Song (by Courtney Welbon)

So... I had to memorize Hamlet's "To Be or Not to Be" soliloquy (by William Shakespeare) for my AP English class and figured that it might be a bit easier to remember it with a melody. **NOTE** Just wanted to clarify that, yes, the melody does not reflect the content nor Hamlet's tone in the actual play. I saw that some listeners were very worried that I did not grasp this concept. Simply put, I needed a way to memorize the piece for a quiz solely based on memorization. As for the analysis quiz on this soliloquy, I got an A+ :) Thank you for listening! check out my band, Town! www.youtube.com/TOWNofficial and give us that thumbs up on Facebook :) www.facebook.com/TOWNofficial Special thanks to Mr. Meyers!

Claymation: Religion and the Afterlife (school project)

This was a bit of a rushed project. I made this to go with a presentation in my grade 12 english class today, about a topic discussed in Hamlet. I did the intro to the project, and my group members did quotation analysis. It took 2 days to make and it was very hard considering the time fame I had to complete this in. This is just and intro to our topic, nothing more, nothing less. Our presentation was a big success (got over 80%), everyone was laughing, and I got a lot of question regarding how I made this.

Philippine floods Dec 2011.wmv

Analysis and notes from the media: December 19, 2011: "RESCUERS have struggled against mud, fatigue and the stench of death to help survivors of devastating flash floods that have killed more than 650 people in the southern Philippines. As bodies that had washed out to sea began rising to the surface, mortuaries were overwhelmed in the port cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan on Mindanao island in the aftermath of tropical storm Washi.Local officials in Iligan said they were preparing to bury unclaimed bodies in a mass grave.Entire villages were swept away by floodwaters as residents, normally spared from typhoons that ravage other parts of the Philippines every year, slept in the early hours of Saturday despite storm warnings. The Philippine Red Cross said 652 people had been confirmed dead by its field staff and another 808 were listed as missing. The head of the government's disaster response agency, Benito Ramos, said its count stood at 516 deaths and 274 missing but conceded that the toll would likely go higher."I'm out here retrieving bodies that are starting to rise to the surface," Ramos said by mobile phone from a rescue boat off Cagayan de Oro.President Benigno Aquino has ordered a review of the country's disaster defences as it became apparent that residents were unprepared. Pope Benedict XVI prayed for the victims of the latest natural disaster to hit the largely Roman Catholic archipelago, which is also prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The United ...
