SASA LOSIC FILM ORCHESTRA and special guest HANKA PALDUM (one of the best Bosnian and Herzegovinian female folk and sevdah performers of all time) performing the song "Ja te pjesmom zovem". --------------------------------------- At the jubilee 10th Sarajevo Film Festival, composer SASA LOSIC presented his new "SASA LOSIC FILM ORCHESTRA" with two gala concerts at the National Theater in Sarajevo. This spectacle (animir operetta) sentimentally called "Hotel Evropa" hosted the legendary musicians, who have, each in his and her own genre, marked several decades of the last century - from the 1950s until today. Besides the most popular numbers SASA LOSIC has composed in the past several years for theatre productions and films, the audience at the National Theater had the opportunity to hear and to enjoy in the most beautiful forgotten melodies from this part of the world.

Hanka Ordonówna & Chór Dana - Marianna (Lucarelli), Homocord 1930 Here's another hit of Hanka Ordonówna - une grande vedette of Polish pre-war song. The text tells that old old story about a pretty little harbor town girl (in this case, Marianna) who waits every night and day in the marina for her Seven Seas' sailor, who comes back for one night only, and then goes away.

This wonderful Hanka Ordonowna's song, one of her last great hits - God knows why, never revitalised in any form after 1945 - comes now from my old shellack. But only thanks to technical efforts of Jurek's - our YT friend, who is the owner of the most wonderful collection of pre-ww II Polish songs - this "Szarlatanka" (meaning "A Charlatan") comes back to us. This song was based upon old Russian tune, saying about woman who, being a honky-tonk, plays a pseudo-artistic game with the customers. The text, written by Oldlen - who was Julian Tuwim, one of the finest Polish XX century poets - is not easy. Yet, Orrdonowna goes thru the nuances more than well.

I don't know when exactly this side was recorded. This song, though having quite catchy music and nice simple words - never became a hit. So now it belongs to the conoisseur's club of the real rarities (especially, that the music and lyrics were written PERSONALLY by an authentic pre- - war Polish Prinz - Sapieha!). The song says about the parting, which Ordonowna is guessing from her lover's eyes. "The fire in your eyes is getting off - she sings - so I know at once that today I see you for the last time". From the style of Ordonówna's singing and the kind of her accompaniament I gues this Syrena-Electro recording must have been made around 1934.

Pjotr Leschenko had Varsovie (!) on his way when was traveling from Riga to Bucuresti, loved to make stops in the capital of Poland and was enriching his vast repertoire. Fell in love with a hit of Ordonka, wrote his own lyrics and was perfoming the song with a true feeling. However, the message was changed: not "Love will forgive you everything" (as it is in the original) but - "For love - I will forgive everything". Less disinterested declaration ?...:-) My Columbia is in a poor state, I know and I regret.

It's one of most charming and heartbreaking songs of Ordonówna, the Queen Of Polish Songs. Composed by her piano accompaniator Borunski, plus text written by her friend, poet Marian Hemar, makes a canto about the lands thru'which you wander, and those you just pass by, always to come back home, which you always keep in your heart. Photos are of the Pomeranian city Bydgoszcz (called "Bromberg" by the German inhabitants, having been the high percentage of the citizens until 1939) show the town as it looked before the Nazi invasion in September 1939. It is my home city - this "little place in the heart" Ordonowna is singing about.

Love will forgive you everything, your sadness will turn into joy. Love can so easily explain a cheat, a sin and betray. Should you desperate curse her some day, that she is cruel or bad, love will forgive you everything, because love, my darling, it's me.
This song has been recorded by me on an audio tape back in the 1980s from the record which is available no more. Since the time I first heard it 25 years ago, I never happened to again. I'm uploading it here for it's just beautiful. Along the notes of this old Viennese walz, Ordonowna tells the funny & melancholic story about the fashions and the dances who come and go. (She mentions "the charleston", "black-bottom" and some mysterious "shimmy Americana")... Yet, above all - there's the Prince - the everlasting waltz.
