Tim Hardaway (30pts/19asts) & Sprewell (33pts/7rebs/9asts) vs. Suns (1995)

This is pretty much the season that started off the bad times in Oakland. Chris Webber had left during the summer, Don Nelson was just fired, Chris Mullin is struggling with injuries, Tom Gugliotta isn't fitting in at all and the team is playing poorly. It doesn't seem possible that the Golden State Warriors (who are 14-33) would get their new head coach Bob Lanier his first victory in Phoenix. Timmy and Spree thought differently and had one heck of a night - Hardaway, now relying more on his jumpshot after the surgery, knocks down 5 threes and hands out 19 assists (some of them pretty far-fetched though), while Latrell Sprewell brings that usual energy to make this a fun game to watch. You just got to love Spree's confidence at 4:10. February 17, 1995.

Penny Hardaway Nike commercial: Lil penny friends with KG

Hardaway's popularity reached its peak in the summer of 1996 as he was coming off two consecutive All-NBA first team selections and a selection to the USA Olympic Team. In addition he had the most popular basketball shoe on the market complete with the "Lil Penny" commercial campaign voiced by Chris Rock. On a 1996 telecast of NBA on NBC Michael Jordan said that Hardaway was the player he felt comfortable passing the torch of greatness down to. Many NBA players such as LeBron James, Gilbert Arenas, Kobe Bryant, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Hakim Warrick, Rawle Marshall, Trevor Ariza, and Antonio Burks have said that they idolized Hardaway when they were growing up. Many of the shoes in Hardaway's signature shoe line, "Air Max Penny", have been reissued over the years as a testament to his former popularity. The Nike Air Max Penny Series included Penny I--Penny IV. Despite being compared to players such as Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, and Magic Johnson,LeBron James compared himself to a young Penny Hardaway. He stated, "Penny sees the whole floor and can score," LeBron James said. "He's still one of my favorite players of all-time." "Its good to see Penny back in the league because people who are not aware, this was Wade, this was Lebron, this was Kobe, an absolute superstar, the closest to Magic, a guy his size able to handle the basketball and make plays" - Mark Jackson

Penny Hardaway v. Heat 1997 Playoffs Game 3

People who follow the NBA today forget how good Penny Hardaway was before all his injuries. For all of his great performances, this, to me, was the defining moment of his career. Shaquille O'Neal had moved on to the Lakers, and the Magic had suffered through a tumultuous 45-37 season that included the firing of Brian Hill and several injuries to key players. Hardaway himself missed 23 games due to injury, and many felt he was responsible for the player mutiny against Hill. Waiting for the Magic were the powerful Miami Heat, coached by Pat Riley and anchored by Alonzo Mourning. The Heat had finished 61-21 and would go on to the Eastern Conference Finals after rallying to defeat the Knicks in the next round. In the first two games of the series, the Heat dominated, obliterating the Magic in every facet of the game. The same thing was happening in Game 3, as the Heat took a 20-point lead in the second quarter. The Magic, who had been swept out of the playoffs in each of the last three years, probably had that same result on their minds. But then, Hardaway took over, carrying his battered team to victory. Starting power forward Horace Grant was out for the series, starting center Rony Seikaly broke his foot in the second quarter, and starting swingmen Nick Anderson and Dennis Scott were severely limited throughout the game. At one point, the Magic were forced to use Danny Schayes at center, but it didn't matter. Hardaway put the team on his back, scoring 26 first-half points ...

Penny Hardaway's 38 points vs. Bulls (1996 Playoffs)

Penny Hardaway has an incredible Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 by scoring 38 points (15/21 FG) on Scottie Pippen with acrobatic layups, dunks and even a halfcourt buzzer beater. Too bad that all of his team-mates (except Shaq) didn't show up and Magic still got blown out by 38. Of course MJ and Scottie wouldn't let this happen again as Penny struggled the rest of the series by scoring only 18 (6/15 FG), 18 again (8/24 FG) the next two games, only to come back with 28 (9/21 FG) during the last game of the sweep. Tim Hardaway - TMC Two Step

Timothy Duane (Tim) Hardaway (born September 1, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois) is a retired American basketball point guard who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and who in his prime was one of the league's best at his position. Six feet (1.83 m) tall, he was best known for his crossover dribble, a move which he utilized and which seemingly caused a revolution in the NBA, and is still used by several current players. In his rookie season, Hardaway wore jersey number "5", as Manute Bol wore Hardaway's trademark "10." After Bol left the Warriors, Hardaway inherited it. With the Warriors, Hardaway was part of "Run TMC" (a play on the title of the popular rap group Run DMC) which was the high-scoring trio of himself, Mitch Richmond, and Chris Mullin. As part of the Warriors' attack, Hardaway was responsible for leading Run TMC's fast break, displaying his excellent passing and one-on-one skills to complement Richmond's slashing and Mullin's shooting. In his best seasons, Hardaway averaged 18 to 23 points and 8 to 10 assists per game. He reached 5000 points and 2500 assists faster than any NBA player, except Oscar Robertson. Hardaway has competed in five NBA All-Star Games. He is the Miami Heat's all time leader in assists and together with center Alonzo Mourning led the Heat to some of the franchise's best seasons. He was an MVP candidate following the 1996-97 season, making it to the All-NBA First Team after leading the Heat to the best record in franchise ...

Penny Hardaway High School Game Highlight - part 1/2

1990 Treadwell vs OakHaven High School Part 1/2 The oirginal sound is extremely low, so you've gotta volume your speakers up. Anfernee Deon "Penny" Hardaway (born July 18, 1971, in Memphis, Tennessee) is a former American professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA), specializing as a small forward, shooting guard, and point guard. His most productive years came in his days as a member of the Orlando Magic as well as the early portion of his stint with the Phoenix Suns. Hardaway was an all-NBA player early in his career, but was plagued by constant injuries which gradually reduced his effectiveness. He last played for the Miami Heat, who released him December 12, 2007. Hardaway's nickname "Penny" came as a result of his grandmother's southern accent in calling him "Pretty."[1] Hardaway was raised by his grandmother while his mother was away working. His first love was football but his grandmother did not want him to get hurt. He grew up in the Binghampton neighborhood of shotgun houses in Memphis, Tennessee. As a teenager, despite his rising popularity around the city and region and, in high school, the nation, Penny continued to work as a referee of youth sports at the Memphis YMCA and played on the Memphis YOMCA Jr. Olympic basketball teams as a youth. Hardaway grew up playing basketball in Memphis for Treadwell High School, where he averaged 36.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 3.9 steals, and 2.8 blocks as a senior and was named ...
