Heart Disease Risk Factors

Heart Attack Risk Factors address the two types of risk factors associated with heart attacks, factors that a person can control and factors they cannot. Knowing the risk factors is so important because having just one risk factor doubles a person's chance of developing heart disease. Heart Disease - Dr. Hans Diehl (Part 1)

In this video for Veggie Channel Dr. Hans Diehl explains that heart disease is totally preventable and largely reversible... In his renowned 4-week CHIP lifestyle intervention program Dr. Diehl goes beyond treating the symptoms of heart disease. www.chiphealth.com He attacks its causes how we eat, drink, smoke, exercise and handle stress. In the process, elevated cholesterol levels drop 15 to 20%, excess weight comes down, high blood pressures fall, and diabetic blood sugars begin to normalize. With these biometric improvements, angina pain lessens and often disappears, medications have to be reduced. And patients begin to live again! Its all about education, motivation and inspiration. Its Healthy by Choice not by Chance! Dr. Hans Diehl is the Clinical director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute in Loma Linda, California. His pioneering efforts with Nathan Pritikin and Dr. Denis Burkitt have shown that many of today's chronic diseases are largely reversible by making some simple lifestyle changes. As a best selling author, researcher, dynamic speaker & top-ranking motivator, he has lectured to corporations and governments and has presented seminars on four continents. Knowing Women's Risk of Heart Disease

This is the VOA Special English Health Report , from voaspecialenglish.com | http Heart disease is the world's leading cause of death. Yet most cases can be prevented. Doctors say reducing deaths from heart disease will require not only changes in the way people live. It will also require changes in public policy, and better public knowledge about differences in heart disease between men and women. Two conditions, coronary artery disease and microvascular disease, can both reduce blood flow to the heart. Experts at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston say heart disease in women is more likely to be caused by microvascular disease. Finding this condition may require tests other than an angiogram. An angiogram is a kind of X-ray test. Doctors use it to look for a buildup of fatty plaque material that can block arteries. Arteries carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart to the rest of the body. The World Health Organization says heart disease kills eighteen million women a year. And these are not just older women. Carrie Vincent had a heart attack after giving birth to her first child at the age of thirty-one. Ms. Vincent is now taking her message to women at meetings in their homes through an organization called Sister to Sister. Irene Pollin started Sister to Sister to educate women about heart disease. Ms. Pollin urges women to learn about their blood pressure, cholesterol levels and other risk factors for heart disease. Ms. Pollin teamed up with a heart specialist ...

Go inside the body to see how Heart Disease develops. Related Videos: Preventing Coronary Artery Disease (Part 2 of 3) | HealthiNation www.youtube.com Treating Coronary Artery Disease (Part 3 of 3) | HealthiNation www.youtube.com Transcript: Overview The human heart is the most important muscle in your body, pumping blood to all your organs. But when you develop heart disease, it doesn't perform the way it should and a number of problems can develop. There are different kinds of heart disease, but the most common is called coronary artery disease, or CAD. CAD affects about 13 million people in the US alone. Stretched hand to hand, they'd reach half way around the world. What makes CAD so threatening, is that it tends to develop unnoticed over time. Each year, more than half a million Americans die from complications of CAD, making it the leading cause of death in both men and women. Coronary artery disease is caused by a condition called "atherosclerosis" or, the gradual buildup of plaque in the blood vessels that feed your heart. Normal Arteries and the Process of Atherosclerosis Here's what happens inside your body during everyday activities like walking...Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood away from your heart, to all the tissues of your body. Healthy arteries are clean, smooth and slick, and can expand easily to let more blood flow through when you need it. Like any muscle, your heart needs a steady supply of oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood to ...

The Surprising Causes of Heart Disease

To know more about Andreas, please visit www.ener-chi.com Andreas Moritz lists the surprising leading causes of heart attacks and heart disease. He shares his treatments for healing heart problems. Raena Morgan Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the Western world. What are some of the contributing factors? Andreas Moritz: You could call them causative factors. RM: Causative factors. AM: There are many causative factors. There are simple things like stress; most people are not told that. There is a study that has proven, it's a repeated study, it showed that the leading cause of heart attack is actually job satisfaction and happiness rating, how happy you are and how happy you are at home and how happy you are at work- RM: Affects your heart? AM: -can affect your heart. Fifty percent of all heart attacks occur without any signs of occlusion, no occlusion whatsoever in the blood vessel walls. RM: No hardening of the arteries? AM: Nothing. RM: Fifty percent? AM: Fifty percent. So that's a huge chunk of heart attacks. RM: Yes. AM: So that is sometimes underemphasized that actually the single most leading cause of heart disease is stress, that means you're not happy. If you are not happy, you are stressed. RM: Okay. AM: So how you respond to pressures at home or at work, how unhappy you are with your spouse, that is a leading one. And they found that people who had heart attacks, the ones that survived the heart attacks were the ones that felt they were loved by a ...

PubMed Entry: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov FREE FULL TEXT: www.ajcn.org FREE PDF File download www.ajcn.org This is the only critical review of large population prospective studies comparing vegetarians to non-vegetarians. As such, it remains the best arbiter of what the actual benefits are of these diets. Vegetarians in these studies had a lower risk of heart disease. Other than that, it wasn't possible to demonstrate any other effects using this study. The major criticism of this type of systematic review is the mixing of different (heterogenous) data sets. It's hard to compare vegans in 1970's Germany to 1990's Seventh Day Adventists and not get some confounders.

Reversing Heart Disease

Testimonial: I had a massive heart attack in 1985 when I was 53 years old. Dean called me and he had called my doctor; and actually my doctor told him not to take me in the program because he didn't think I would last the year. But Dean didn't care. He knew that the thing worked. He had the book and he explained what it was. And it was a complete change from the life that I was living. But I had to do it. I knew I had to do it 'cause I couldn't walk across the street in time for the light or I would get a chest pain. But almost immediately—I would say within 2 or 3 weeks—I noticed the difference. As soon as I noticed the difference, I knew that this thing was . . . it was possible for me to live. Dean Ornish: Coronary heart disease is still the most common cause of death, not only in the United States but in most of the world. What most people don't realize is that it's almost completely preventable for 95-99% of people today, knowing what we know. We don't have to wait for a new drug or a new device or a new breakthrough to be able to prevent heart disease. We simply need to put into practice what we already know. Now heart disease results when your heart becomes starved for oxygen that the blood carries. In part, this can be caused when blockages build up in the arteries that feed the heart. Then the question is: What causes the blockages to build up? What causes the arteries to constrict? What causes little platelets to form blood clots that can clog up the lining of ...
