"Helenka" is a short-documentary that chronicles the courageous life of Helenka Hlavac - my grandmother, as she fights for her freedom and survival during the German occupation and Russian liberation of Prague, Czechoslovakia - during and after the Second World War. Helenka risked everything -- her life, her freedom and the prospect of never seeing her children again as she fought to save her parents, her Jewish husband and her young children from the clutches of Hitler's Nazis and subsequent Communist liberators. Had it not been for her courage and fight for survival, I may very well not have been here today. Helenka is the ultimate story of overcoming adversity and fighting for one's freedom.
