Henry Ford

Henry Ford was a man unique to his world. A man whose vision and drive created the backbone of the Industrial Revolution and the American automobile industry. From humble beginnings, Henry Ford used his natural gift for mathematics and his love for machines to propel himself into history. He was a pioneer in automobile technology and the inventor of the mass-production assemble line. Ford's dedication to his dreams has affected us all and helped shape the world in which we live.

Chautauqua 2006: Henry Ford (Part 1)

This is a Chautauqua 2006 portrayal of Henry Ford by actor Doug Mishler Henry Ford's (1863-1947) revolutionary five-dollar, eight-hour day for workers, inexpensive automobiles, moving assembly line, and amazing command of technology made him one of the 1920s most popular and important figures. His public persona, however, became tainted by repeated occurrences of corruption, brutality, and anti-Semitism. A crusader for prohibition and for the abolition of smoking and jazz, Ford fought against what he saw as "moral decline" in the nation. Although a genius of the modern world, Ford can also be described as one of the last reactionaries trying to hold that world back. Doug Mishler holds a Ph.D. in American culture from the University of Nevada, Reno, and has taught at the University of Nevada and Western Washington University. As a public historian, he has written a history of the Ringling Brothers Circus and has consulted on several public television and Chautauqua programs. In addition to Henry Ford, Mishler has performed as PT Barnum, Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Carnegie, William Lloyd Garrison, Ernie Pyle, William Clark, and Billy Sunday. Chautauqua (shuh-taw-kwa) takes its name from a lake in upstate New York, beginning in 1874 as a training course for Sunday School teachers. In 1878 the Chautauqua movement expanded its philosophy of adult education to include an appreciation for the arts and humanities. By 1904, Chautauqua took to the road as part of the Lyceum ...

Henry Ford Museum highlights

Here's some picture and video highlights from our visit to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn MI. We trekked to The Henry Ford specifically to see the 1601 Allegheny locomotive. That mammoth steam engine is in great shape; totally the opposite from the only other remaining Allegheny which was rusting away outside at the Baltimore B&O Museum for ages. And The Henry Ford had so many other great exhibits too. It was a great visit. Music: "You're Gonna Miss Me" by 13th Floor Elevators

Henry Ford Greenfield Village

Entering Greenfield Village is like stepping into an 80-acre time machine. It takes you back to the sights, sounds and sensations of Americas past. There are 83 authentic, historic structures, from Noah Websters home, where he wrote the first American dictionary, to Thomas Edisons Menlo Park laboratory, to the courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practiced law. The buildings and the things to see are only the beginning. Theres the fun stuff, too. In Greenfield Village, you can ride in a genuine Model T or pull glass with world-class artisans; you can watch 1867 baseball or ride a train with a 19th-century steam engine. Its a place where you can choose your lunch from an 1850s menu or spend a quiet moment pondering the home and workshop where the Wright brothers invented the airplane. Greenfield Village is a celebration of people — people whose unbridled optimism came to define modern-day America.

Mirror of America, Henry Ford - US History 1915-1925 Part 1/4

A film compiled from the archives of the Ford Film collection and divided into four parts. The first and second parts mostly portray life pre-World War I. A number of different subjects are addressed throughout all four parts from everyday household life, city life, travel, industry, and recreation to name a few. There are also quite a few model T automobiles roaming about and some good shots of Henry Ford himself. Parts three is mostly concerned with events during World War I including Ford's contributions to the war effort. Part four shows Model T production at the Highland Park plant. Includes some very nice footage of Ford trucks at work. Tractors are examined as well. Includes some interesting "safety" footage near the end.

'Lord, Mr. Ford' (Jerry Reed)

What happens when you get a country singer to get fired up about cars? This! Update October 2009: I would like to say something: I have received many comments and such that would imply that I am a country music fan. I truly am not a fan of the country genre, I just happened to like this song by Jerry Reed and in a bored stupor one day in the middle of 8th grade Civics made this video. Thank you all who read this, and thanks for the comments and thanks for almost 120k views! I am amazed that I have that many, and truly honored. (Plus I can annoy the heck out of my friends whose best videos have barely 4000 total views combined ;) )
