Aafje Heynis, Sea Pictures by Sir Edward Elgar

Sea slumber Song Sea_Pictures by Sir Edward Elgar Aafje Heynis - Dutch Contralto www.cantabile-subito.de Text by Roden Berkely Wriothesley Noel See Slumber Song Sea-birds are asleep, The world forgets to weep, Sea murmurs her soft slumber-song On the shadowy sand Of this elfin land; I, the Mother mild, Hush thee, oh my child, Forget the voices wild! Hush thee, oh my child, Hush thee. Isles in elfin light Dream, the rocks and caves, Lulled by whispering waves, Veil their marbles Veil their marbles bright. Foam glimmers faintly white faintly white Upon the shelly sand Of this elfin land; Sea-sound, like violins, To slumber woos and wins, I murmur my soft slumber-song, my slumber song Leave woes, and wails, and sins. Ocean's shadowy might Breathes good night, Good night... Leave woes, and wails, and sins. Good night...Good night...

Part III: Rare and unknown voices - AAFJE HEYNIS

Part III: Rare and unknown voices. Please discuss this artist with your comments! Aafje Heynis, Contralto (born 1924) Can you sew cushions ? Traditional Lullaby-Folksong Felix de Noble, Pianoforte (Recorded 1960) My personal opinion: Some careers begun like an emotional fairytale. This story was told by dutch contralto Aafje Heynis herself: When the Netherlands were liberated in May 1945, the jubilation reached the same level as everywhere else. A man hit on the idea of wheeling his old piano out on to the street. He began to play a patriotic song, naturally, with bystanders joining in with utmost emotion. Suddenly someone cried: "There's a real singer living just near by. She must join us." A few minutes later some bystanders brought a shy young lady: Aafje Heynis. There were cries of "Sing, sing!". And she began to sing Handel's "Dank sei dir, Herr". It became completely still, and people began to weep. Aafje's beautiful timbre, her own emotion, the splendid melody, the greatness of freedom after five years of occupation, all these cast a spell on the dozens of witnesses. "Never again have I been able to sing Handel quite like that!", the contralto later said. After that from 1946 to 1949, her teachers were Aaltje Noorderwier-Reddingius and Laurens Bogtman, the great oratorio singer. Roy Henderson, the teacher of Kathleen Ferrier, told her that although her voice did not resemble that of the famous English singer she was still destinated for a great future because of ...

Bach Cantata No. 170 Aafje Heynis

This is the first aria from Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust (Delightful rest, beloved pleasure of the soul), BWV 170 sung by Aafje Heynis. The whole cantata can be downloaded at www.eavb.co.uk "I'm also very pleased to see the other recording with the great Dutch singer Aafje Heynis in what was rightly hailed in 1961 as her greatest Bach recording - and she had already made a few. It's good, too, to see the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and Szymon Goldberg up and running again...but his collaboration with Heynis here is treasurable and the Philips recording has come up well in the Beulah transfer. Aafje Heynis sings Londonderry Air

Dutch contralto Aafje Heynis Irish folk song Londonderry Danny Boy..............................................Old English Tune/Fred Weatherly Danny Boy is one of over 100 songs composed to the same tune. The author attributed to its lyrics is an English lawyer, Fred Weatherly, who was also a songwriter and radio entertainer. In 1910, he wrote the words and music for an unsuccessful song her called Danny Boy and then he revised it again in 1911. Then, in 1912, a sister-in-law sent him a tune called the Londonderry Air (aka Air from County Derry) of which he had never heard before. He noticed that the melody was a near perfect fit with his words of Danny Boy and he again revised it and published the new version of the song in 1913. There has been no account of Weatherly setting foot in Ireland, but the Irish came to Colorado where his sister-in-law was and they played the tune. His sister then obtained a copy of the music and that is what she sent to Weatherly. As the tune grew in popularity, traditional Irish music came to be researched more thoroughly. Some agree that the tune to Danny Boy is true to Irish folk songs and some do not agree. There is a song called Aisling an Ogfhir, an Irish folk-song (The Young Man's Dream) that bears a striking resemblance to the tune of Danny Boy. Could this be the original? No one exactly knows since there has also been an English version of The Young Man's Dream found in Scotland as well. If the text to Aisling an Ogfhir is ...

Biografie over zangeres Aafje Heynis

Aafje Heynis sings Christian Ritter Cantata!

Hardly anything is known about Christian Ritter, not even the exact years of his birth and death. An older contemporary of Bach, the cantata "O amantissime sponse Jesu" is based on a Latin devotional text and is perhaps Ritter's best known opus. Aafje Heynis sings the solo cantata with Szymon Goldberg conducting the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. June, 1960. O amantissime sponse, Jesu cordis mei et pars meum, Jesu in aeternum. Te laudem, te amem, te quaeram, te cantem. O amor, o Deus, o vita, o salus, o bonitas infinita. O Jesu mi dulcissime. Amabilissime Jesu et salvator animae meae, O Jesu, salus mea et vita mea, te amo, te volo, te quaero, te cupio, te desidero. O most beloved groom, Jesus of my heart and my portion, Jesus in eternity. Let me praise you, let me love you, let me seek you, let me sing to you. O love, O God, O life, O infinite goodness. O Jesus most sweet. Most beloved Jesus and savior of my soul, O Jesus, my salvation and my life, I love you, I want you, I seek you, I long for you, I desire you. Link to my Aafje Heynis playlist: www.youtube.com
