7'4 high jump

Two days ago I had my first meet in 3 years. I jumped 7'3/2.21m and was fairly satisfied with that, although I knew I could have gone higher. I came into practice today fairly content (which is bad) but after a few jumps I knew it was only a matter of time before I was going to make 7'4/2.235m. That is possibly the best jump I've ever had... so far. I just wish I didn't have those stupid shorts on because I had about 3-5cm on it. EDIT: Not that anyone will read this, but after getting a lot of views I'm seeing a lot of the same comments here. Who is the girl? Yeah, let me get right on posting that. I'm 6'4/1.93 tall, and yes I can dunk. I'm currently 26 but in these videos I was 24. If you freeze the clips when I plant you can clearly see that the bar is well over my head. As I walk closer to the camera it looks lower. I shouldn't have to explain this. If you still don't believe the height, believe whatever you want, it doesn't matter. I jumped 7'3 2 days prior and have another video clearing 7'4 at a meet. Regardless, it's practice and I never intended the video to have 250k+ views.

Javier Sotomayor - High Jump World Record - 2.45 m (8.046 ft)

At Salamanca he set a world record of 2.43 metres, but was denied the chance to compete at the 1988 Olympics due to another Cuban boycott. He twice increased the world record, to 2.44 metres (8 ft 0.06 in) on July 29, 1989 in San Juan and to the current record of 2.45 metres (8 ft 0.46 in) on July 23, 1993 in Salamanca. Sotomayor also set the current world indoor record of 2.43 metres (7 ft 11.67 in) on March 4, 1989 in Budapest. Sotomayor has a rare dominance in the history of this event. Of the 24 all-time best high jumps, 17 are his; he has cleared 2.40 meters more times than any other athlete and is the only person to have cleared 2.44 m (8 ft). The last time he cleared 2.40 meters was on March 25, 1995 at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina. No one has jumped higher since. It was only equaled by Vyacheslav Voronin in London in August 2000 (2.40 m), Stefan Holm in Madrid in 2005 (2.40 m) and Ivan Ukhov in Piraeus in April 2009 (2.40 m). Sotomayor's event progression (Salamanca - 1993): 2.29 m (-) 2.32 m (0) 2.35 m (-) 2.38 m (0) 2.41 m (-) 2.45 m (X0)

This video illustrates the use of the TAGteach approach to teach a 9-year old to high jump. There is no correction or frustration. If she hears the tag she know she got it right. No tag, she knows to self assess and try again. The skill is taught with back chaining - that is, the last part is taught first with bits added one piece at a time to build the complete skill. The tag point tells the learner what to focus on. She only needs to think about one thing at a time in order to succeed and hear the tag.

The Bahama's Donald Thomas was the unexpected winner when he won the gold medal by jumping 2.35m at his first attempt. Sweden's olympic champion Stefan Holm failed to clear this height - his best of 2.33 was good enough only for fourth. Jaroslav Rybakov of Russia won his third World Championships silver medal. 2004 Olympics, Mens High Jump

ALTISSIMO!! Here is coverage of the Mens High Jump from the 2004 Olympics with some passionate italian commentators. Stefan Holm had a stellar year in 2004, being undefeated all season and it was undoubtedly the peak of his career. He won the olympic gold with a first up clearance at 2.36m. Matt Hemingway of the USA was second with 2.34m, and Jaroslav Baba of Czech Republic was thrid with 2.34m. The audio gets a bit out of sync with the visual in some parts, but overall its not too bad..

1984 Olympic Men's High Jump final

I pasted every jump I had on tape. ABC covered primarily the two Americans -- Dwight Stones and Doug Nordquist -- but this video does include at least one jump from all three medalists, including the gold medal effort from West Germany's Dietmar Mogenburg. ABC refreshingly still covered it like a track and field meet in those days, switching live from event to event, unlike NBC which dismisses field events into a canned package long after the fact, two minutes tops. GOLD - Dietmar Mogenburg, FRG 2.35 m (7-8 1/2) SILVER - Patrik Sjoberg, SWE 2.33 m (7-7 3/4) BRONZE - Zhu Jianhua, CHI 2.31 m (7-7)

This is the packaged recap by NBC. It also includes a good segment they ran a day later, which showed the progression of the men's high jump world record holder from the 1956 Summer Olympics until Seoul in 1988. That segment features Javier Sotomayor's first world record jump a few weeks earlier in 1988. Sotomayor cleared the 8 foot barrier about 10 months after Seoul, which Cuba boycotted. GOLD - Gennadiy Avdeyenko (URS), 2.38m (7-9 3/4) SILVER - Hollis Conway (USA), 2.36m (7-8 3/4) BRONZE - Rudolf Povarnitsyn (URS), 2.36m (7-8 3/4) BRONZE - Patrik Sjoberg (SWE), 2.36m (7-8 3/4)
