Some of the Highlanders took time out of the regular training schedule to attend a class at the fantastic Renshuden Judo club in Dunedin. The session was very helpful and we will apply many of the techniques learnt to our Rugby. *Here is some info about the fantastic club.* Judo is an Olympic and Commonwealth sport that originated from a Japanese martial art. Judo uses throws and holds to defeat your opposition. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, Judo is the safest contact sport for children under age 13 ...AND... According to the International Judo Federation (IJF), Judo is the most widely practiced martial art in the world. Judo is an excellent competitive sport and form of self-defence. It is also ideal for those who would just like the fitness benefits, cross-train for other sports (eg rugby) and have a lot of fun. The club fees are also much cheaper than a gym, and you get many personal trainers without the added expense!! The Renshuden Judo School is the world's most Southern 'official' Judo club. It was established in 1974 when Brian Cloynes 4th Dan and 3 times British Middleweight Judo champion, immigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand for a better life for his family. The name Ren-Shu derived from the Japanese meaning "Practice", "Den" loosely taking the meaning of Club, Group or Gathering, hence we have Practice Club (Renshuden). Word spread quickly about the 4th Dan champion from England taking Judo classes in Dunedin. Many quickly joined the <b>...</b>

Gordon Highlanders Bicentenary Parade
The Bicentenary Parade of the Gordon Highlanders, celebrating 200 years of service. It is unfortunate that this parade took place shortly before the Regiment's amalgamation with the Queen's Own to form the Regiment we know as 'the Highlanders'. The parade includes the Pipes and Drums, Military Band, 1st Battalion, and Gordon Highlanders Association. Prince Charles, the Regiment's Colonel in Chief was the reviewing officer of the parade. Affiliations include the Royal Victoria Regiment of Australia, the 48th Highlanders of Canada and the Cape Town Highlanders of South Africa, two of which still wear uniforms of the Gordon Highlanders.

Here's a clip from yesterdays historical LB. We were outnumbered by 15 in the first round, but later became outnumbered by more than 20. The situation sucked as the enemy team stayed on the defensive. But it wasnt enough for them to win, the game ended 2 - 2. All in all, a rather good LB. All the regiments fought well. Here's a clip from todays LB against 84e, 14e and the 87th. It started out as 84e and 14e vs the 87th and us, but since we brought over 90 members and outnumbered them extremely, the 87th swapped side. It was hard to make it balanced so we played outnumbered by around 15 players. The game ended 3 - 2 to them, but the last round was a very very close one. Only 4 enemies survived it.
