Ayaan Hirsi Ali Infidel - ABC TV Big Ideas - Interview

Provocateur Ayaan Hirsi Ali is always followed by a security detail due to her controversial stance on Islam and feminism, which she outlines in her first book "Infidel" published in 2007. Her follow up, "Nomad", tells the stirring story of her search for a new life as she tries to reconcile her Islamic past with her passion for democracy and Western values. In this one-on-one from the Wheeler Centre in Melbourne, Hirsi Ali tells Jennifer Byrne why she's willing to risk her life to be an outspoken critic of the religion she grew up with. She also explains why she believes debates about Islam and immigration are often superficial, and need to engage with a deeper clash of values. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is a Somali-born writer, activist and women's rights campaigner. In 1992, she escaped an arranged marriage and sought political asylum in the Netherlands. She went on to become a member of the Dutch parliament from 2003-2006. In 2004, she made a film called "Submission" with director Theo Van Gogh. After the film was aired on Dutch television, Van Gogh was killed by an Islamic extremist. Hirsi Ali is best known for her explosive 2007 memoir, "Infidel", which recounts a repressed and brutal childhood in a Muslim family. Having publicly lambasted both Islam and the prophet Mohammed, she has been the target of numerous death threats and lives with constant security. She currently lives in the USA and is a resident fellow at the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute for ...

It can no longer be said, that it's just a bunch of extremists, and that Islam is a religion of peace. These people actually believe that they are superior to non-Muslims, and because of that, assimilation by immigrants into non-Muslim countries will be impossible. Many would have you believe in the name of Political Correctness, that most Muslims are peaceful, but that is all a ruse. The political correctors leave out the fact that most of those Muslims they are talking about, also have the duty to support their fellow Muslims, even if they don't believe in what they are supporting. The Muslim goal is to have a flag flying over every country in the western world, with Sharia Law, the law of the land. This is bad enough for the common person, but the women of western society really need to take heed. For under Sharia, they will be as second class citizen, a property of men, with very little individual rights.
