HST Great West Driver's eye view preview
The first episode in Video 125's HST WEST trilogy begins at London's Paddington Station, the traditional home of the Great Western Railway. Filmed in 1993, we travel aboard a British Rail InterCity 125 High Speed Train running at up to 125 miles an hour. We run non-stop to Reading, call at Swindon, Bath and Bristol Temple Meads. En route we see the Didcot Railway Centre to discover a little more about the broad gauge. Box tunnel's hidden eastern portal is seen from the cab. After Bristol TM, we travel down to Exeter, this section having been edited down to half real time.

Paddington to Reading - First Great Western HST - December 2011
London Paddington to Reading (the whole journey) on the 12::00 Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads on Saturday 17th December 2011, in 1st class. Exactly 21 years after I filmed the same trip before, on a Valenta Paxman-powered Inter-City HST (the 1990 film is also on YouTube). The 2011 trip was on a (sadly) much quieter FGW HST. Many changes since the 1990 film, such as the Stockley flyover, near Hayes & Harlington, where the Heathrow branch leaves the Great Western Main Line, as well as overhead lines between Paddington and the Stockley flyover. Additionally, of course, much of the rolling stock has changed between the days of the pre-privatisation British Rail and the 2011 franchised system. The mainline platforms of Westbourne Park station have also long since closed. Filmed in 1080p full HD.

HST action at Lea Green (5th and 6th May 2012)
Running in a joint venture between Virgin and East Midlands Trains, an HST diagram was laid on to work an extra Liverpool Lime Street to London service, running in connection with the Chelsea Vs Liverpool FA Cup Final at Wembley. As such, this produced a rare sight of a HST on the Liverpool to Manchester line, and an opportunity too good to miss! Powercars 43044 and 43061 were in charge on the Saturday, working the outward run on the morning of Saturday 5th May. 43046 and 43064 were in charge of the return run to Liverpool on the afternoon of Sunday 6th May 2012. This video shows the action at Lea Green; the ECS move from the Saturday morning (with 43044 and 43061), along with the return run to Liverpool and the ECS back to Derby (with 43046 and 43064) on the Sunday afternoon.

Exeter St. Davids to London Paddington on the 11::40 from Exeter (the 08:44 from Penzance to London Paddington) "The Cornish Riviera" on Thursday 15th December 2011, in 1st class. First Great Western HST. Timed at just 2 hours 4 minutes for the run to Paddington, the service calls only at Reading and Paddington on departure from Exeter. As I filmed the stretch between Reading and Paddington on a different service, on a different day, this film focuses on the journey as far as Twyford. This was just one journey from a packed week of travelling around the country by train. Filmed in full HD 1080p.

Decided to try out one of the common pistol calibers on the pork shoulder. We have a 9.75lb pork shoulder vs P45HST1,.45ACP, 230gr Federal HST +P. Marketed velocity of 950 FPS. This round did not penetrate through the entire pork shoulder. I figured 9" of Penetration from entry to stopping point. Expansion is quite amazing at the largest of slightly over 1". Bullet never struck/nicked the bone about 1/4" under it's path. Fired from FNP-45 Tactical with 5.3" Barrel.

Here we have a few East Coast HST sightings in Edinburgh on the 25th & 28th September 2011: ==25th September== 1. 43295 & 43257 arrive from Newcastle, having being diverted via the West Coast Mainline due to engineering works. 2. Ex-EMT 43074 & 43306 depart working 1E24 Edinburgh - London King's Cross via Carlisle. A HST departing from Platform 20 in Edinburgh is a rare sight indeed, and was made possible due to the closure of Platform 11. ==28th September== 3. EMT 43073 (on hire to EC) screams out of Waverley working 1E25 Aberdeen - London King's Cross. Thanks for watching :)
