FROST AND FIRE is a brand new acoustic music and performance night at the Citz, curated and presented by Howie Reeve. The first event kicks off on Sat 24 April 2010 with a line-up including: Sokobauno Puppet Theatre, Keith John Adams, Jenny Reeve and Alasdair Roberts. Hubbert's Peak and Climate Change - David Rutledge
There is a vigorous debate now about fossil-fuel production, and whether it will be sufficient in the future. At the same time, there is an intense effort to predict the contribution to future climate change that will result from consuming this fuel. There has been surprisingly little effort to connect these two. Do we have a fossil fuel supply problem? Do we have a climate-change problem? Do we have both? Which comes first? I will consider the possibility that the time constant for exhaustion of fossil fuel is an order of magnitude smaller than the time constants for temperature and sea-level change. This means that policies aimed at slowing down consumption of fossil fuels are likely to have little effect on the ultimate temperature and sea-level rise, and it suggests a policy with the goal of leaving fossil fuels in the ground as preserves for our descendants. Professor Rutledge is the Chair of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science at Caltech and Tomiyasu Professor of Electrical Engineering. His research has been in microwave engineering, and he is the author of the textbook Electronics of Radio, published by Cambridge University Press, and the popular microwave computer-aided-design package Puff. He is a winner of the Teaching Award of the Associated Students at Caltech, and a Fellow of the IEEE. The first few minutes of the talk are cut due to technical difficulties.

Detour is all about supporting new Scottish music. We are passionate about the bands that we discover in this wee country of ours - there are so many incredible artists out there, it's bloody brilliant. For the second year running at the Wickerman Festival - a quite mad jamboree near Dumfries involving fire, old punks, and 80s rock bands - we have been able to team up with two other teams dedicated to showcasing the best in new Scottish music - the Solus Tent team, and Glasgow Podcart. The Solus Tent plays host to the most diverse, interesting - and dare we say it - best, lineup of all the 'new music' stages at Scottish festivals. We wanted to take a wee batch of the best bands playing there over the weekend, and do something a bit special. Thankfully, we had the delightful Glasgow Podcart there to help us; record sound, organise stuff, and generally be amazing. He is now a signed artists with record label Chemikal Underground Records. In 2006, Hubbert stopped playing live gigs and he began to study many different musical forms such as flamenco, samba and taiko. The outcome was a series of solo guitar compositions, which are based around flamenco rhythms and structures, but which are simultaneously melodically traceable to both his previous work and more contemporary styles.
