Wilderness foods - huckleberries

www.survivalistboards.com If you do not know what it is, do not eat it. Eating plants found in the wilderness is a gamble. Know what the plant is before you eat it - there is no second chance. The fruit of the various species of plant called huckleberry is generally edible. The berries are small and round, usually less than 1 inch in diameter, and contain 10 relatively large seeds. Berries range in color according to species from bright red, through dark purple, and into the blues. In taste the berries range from tart to sweet, with a flavor similar to that of a blueberry, especially in blue/purple colored varieties. Huckleberries are a favorite of many mammals such as bears and humans. In the Pacific Northwest of North America, the huckleberry plant can be found in mid-alpine regions, often on the lower slopes of mountains. The plant grows best in damp, acidic soil. Under optimal conditions, huckleberries can be as much as 3 - 6 feet tall, and usually ripen in mid-to-late summer, sometimes in early winter or later at higher elevations.

Huckleberry Finn And His Friends

The intro to 'Huckleberry Finn And His Friends' the classic 1979 Canadian / German television series starring Ian Tracey as Huckleberry Finn and Sammy Snyders as Tom Sawyer. I grew up in Australia during the 1980's and watched this series whenever it was shown. It was re-run many times on various networks around the world until the early 1990's when it looked like we would never see it again. It took me years to find anything about the series and then during 1998 I was able to contact another fan of the series who had recorded 17 episodes of the series on VHS tape. Finally in 2005 the series was released as a 4 DVD box set by Fabulous Films in the UK by and is available from Amazon.co.uk

A Southern publisher's sanitized edition of "Huckleberry Finn" that replaces the N-word with "slave" over 200 times is the focal point for a debate on the use of the controversial word in American society. Byron Pitts reports.

Commonly recognized as one of the Great American Novels, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written in the vernacular, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, best friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. Satirizing a Southern antebellum society that was already out of date by the time the work was published, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an often scathing look at entrenched attitudes ...

Be sure to check our forum, www.cartoons-forum.org Info about The Huckleberry Hound Show (1958): The Huckleberry Hound Show is a 1958 syndicated animated series and the second from Hanna-Barbera following The Ruff & Reddy Show, sponsored by Kellogg's. The Yogi Bear segment of the show proved more popular than Huckleberry's; it spawned its own series in 1961.A segment featuring Hokey Wolf and Ding-A-Ling was added, replacing Yogi Bear during the 1960-61 season. In 1961, the series became the first animated program to be honored with an Emmy Award. The Huckleberry Hound Show contributed to making Hanna-Barbera a household name, and is often credited with legitimizing the concept of animation produced specifically for television. Huckleberry Finn & His Friends S1E1 Welcome Neighbour

Huckleberry Finn and His Friends was a 1979 television series documenting the exploits of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, based on the novels The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by American writer Mark Twain. The series was made up of 26 episodes and was a Canadian/German coproduction. Huckleberry Finn is played by Ian Tracey who is also the narrator. Tom Sawyer is played by Sammy Snyders. Directed by Jack B. Hively and Ken Jubenvill, this mini-series was broadcast in many countries such as Germany, UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Venezuela and many other Latin American nations. The series was re-shown many times during the 1980s to early 1990s and has grown somewhat of a cult following. Even though Mark Twain originally wrote the books The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as separate units, this mini-series conjures up both literary works as only one story. Therefore, it places greater importance on Huckleberry's character without putting aside Tom Sawyer's. Tom has one of his especially naughty days when he steals jam, plays hookey and gets in a fight.
