In 1979, AM General began preliminary design work on the M998 Series High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV, pronounced Humvee®) In 1983, the LTV Corporation bought AM General from American Motors Corporation and established it as a wholly owned subsidiary of the LTV Aerospace and Defense Company. In 1984, the AM General headquarters moved from the American Motors AMTEK Building to Livonia, Michigan, and two years later to South Bend, Indiana, where the primary manufacturing operations were located. On January 2, 1985, AM General rolled the first HMMWV (aka. HUMMER) off the assembly line of their new South Bend facility. The first HMMWV was a standard Military vehicle. In April 1992, The Renco Group, Inc. of New York City purchased AM General Corporation from LTV During eight decades of growth, AM General has established a reputation as the world leader in the design, engineering and production of military and special purpose vehicles. Here's something you don't get to do everyday. At a Boy Scout Camporee at the State Police/National Guard Training Facility in Sea Girt, NJ, they had a Humvee that they allowed us to start! Unfortunately they wore the battery dead pretty fast.

Nomorenarcissism: The first FUBAR mistake is some idiot within US DoD made the FALSE assertion that Afghanistan's terrain is "too rough for tanks" without getting off his ass and doing a proper terrain analysis when you can clearly see with your own eyes that much of it is OPEN TERRAIN that even medium tanks like the Canadian Army's Leopard 1 tanks can traverse. www.geocities.com Go through the many Afghanistan "I-Love-Me" unit videos and look at the terrain in terms of what's GO and NO-GO. This convenient DoD lie derived from the defeatist excuse list of "we don't do mountains and we don't do jungles" plays right into the hands of the lightfighter egomaniacs who to their credit have the WILL TO FIGHT in closed terrains but lack the objectivity to use armored tracks (they don't want to LOOK like the "mech pussies" in heavy units they look down on) like readily available M113 Gavins LIGHT tracks that can traverse not only the open terrain but the majority of the CLOSED TERRAIN that is steep and rocky that pathetic wheeled trucks like the Humvee driven by the naive authoritarian parent Dumb-Ass-Mother Fukers (DAMFs) shown in this video cannot traverse. Social institutions are NOT "mom/dad" looking out for your best interests; and if you want to not be sacrificed you need to stand up and insist on getting the best tools to get the job done and possibly suffer the wrath of institutional and peer disapproval in the process; but that's what ADULTS who are secure in themselves <b>...</b>
