Hurdle Drills - Knee and Straight Leg Drives
www.sihunt.co.uk Hurdle Drills - Knee and Straight Leg Drives Use 5 hurdles up to waist high, 3-4 feet apart. Knee Drives - Using a lateral movement drive each knee lifting the foot over each hurdle. Going over all 5 hurdles and back again is one rep. Do 3 reps and move on to Straight Leg Drives. For the Straight Leg Drives do the same but bring the leg over each hurdle while keeping it as straight as possible. Use a good arm action for both of these drills. Focus on a good posture and moving your legs as fast as you can. These drills are good for establishing rhythm and leg speed. It is good to do this in pairs, on either side of the hurdles, allowing athletes to compete for speed.

Paraskevi Patoulidou wins 100m hurdles 1992 Olympics
Paraskevi (Voula) Patoulidou, running in lane 5, on 8.6.1992, wins the first Greek track and field Gold Olympic medal, in the 1992 games, in Barcelona Spain, since Spyridon Louis won the Gold in the marathon, in the first Olympics in Athens on 4.10.1896. Voula was also the first Greek female athlete, ever, to reach an Olympic track and field final. When she realized she won the race, she screamed the immortal: "Gia tin Ellada, gamoto" meaning "For Greece's sake, damn it". Spyridon Louis won the 40 Km race in 2hours 58min 50sec. Fellow Greek and favorite for the race Harilaos Vassilakos came second and Gyula Kellner from Hungary was third.

Robles, the Olympic champion and world record holder, crossed the finishing line first in the men's 110m hurdles final, but had his gold medal take away after judges upheld an appeal from the Chinese contingent after replays showed that the Cuban held back Liu Xiang. "If I were from another country that had more power, that wouldn't have happened," Robles was quoted as telling The Associated Press on Tuesday. "It's very controversial that these things happen in an athletics world championships, lamentably it was my turn to lose out." He added: "You can always get hit, you open your arms and there's always contact. I've had races where I've collided with (American hurdler David) Oliver, with the same Chinese (Liu), that's normal and all the athletes know it."

Major upset, the only time Phillips defeated Edwin Moses, the two-time gold medalist. Moses actually ran a faster time for bronze than either of his gold medals in 1976 and 1984.
